Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

Hi everyone. I am registered for the 10K only and I'm leaning toward making this a family trip. We've had several other family trips to Disneyland, but this is my first time doing a runDisney event, so there's few things I have questions about.

1. How many discounted park tickets can you buy from GetTravel. We have a family of 6, possibly others may join us as well. Are there any other limitations to the discounted tickets? Is GetTravel the cheapest option?

2. How busy are the parks that weekend? Our state has Monday off of school for Martin Luther King Day. Do the CA schools have that day off as well.

3. I'm looking at staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn, 3 nights in a mini suite for about $530. Does anyone have any better suggestions for a family of 6 on a budget?

4. What exactly do you get with the Chear packages? What's the differences between the complimentary, silver, bronze, etc?? Do the Chear packages sell out?

Thanks for the help!

1. I had called GetTravel regarding tickets for the Disneyland half weekend and was told that I could buy "as many as I want". I figure it's the same for Tink.

3. I'm staying at the Del Sol Inn (a couple hotels down the block). I chose it because they have rooms with 2 queens and a bunk bed, so no one would have to sleep on a sofa bed. They offer lower rates through their website- I got the room for $109/night. I haven't been there before, but I figured for a rate that low, I had to give it a shot. :)

Jeff- is that the one on DL Drive on the other side of Katella across from CoCo's? When we go we're like you at the park or DTD until nighttime, so we'd be there just for sleeping. I know you said no frills, but how are the beds and bathrooms? If that's all you use it for sounds like a great price!

Yes that's the place. The beds are fine, but the bathroom is small and there is no counter space. If you get a suite there is counter space in the kitchenette plus a sink so you can make it work. This is an older hotel, but it is relatively clean. It is actually a very quiet hotel and I never felt that it was unsafe.

If you stay there I would suggest you bring your own towels. The hotel towels are small and rough. They have a small continental breakfast that consists of coffee and packaged pastries (muffins, danishes, etc). We usually picked up some to have as a snack when we got back to the room instead of breakfast.

If all you expect is a place to sleep and take showers this is a good place since it is still close to the parks (10-15 minutes to the gate) and it is cheap. The start of the half is maybe a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

We have stayed here the last two years. We stayed in the suite that had two queen beds and a king bed. Prior to staying here we always stayed at the Candy Cane Inn which we loved, but also twice the price.

Thanks for the info! Will have to keep that in mind next family trip. I saw in the other thread you mentioned your wife is doing Nike ~ is she doing the 1/2 or the full?

She is doing the half. She has done 3 marathons, but doesn't really like the distance or the training involved. She prefers half marathons. I believe that will be her 38th half marathon.

Wow! Good for her!! Nike'll be #21 for me. 1 more question for you and I promise I'll leave you alone. :goodvibes SF Marathon ~ have you run it before, and if so how's the back 1/2? I'm really leaning towards doing the full next July. I've done the 1st 1/2 and Nike enough that I know what to expect/hill training wise, but was curious what the last 1/2 is like. I'd assume elevation is little easier than the 1st part?

Wow! Awesome for her! I'm inspired :goodvibes I actually met someone the other day who runs with Sacfit. She's doing Nike too.

I have not done any of the SF marathon, but my wife has done both the first and second halfs. My 13 year old son did the second half last month and that was his first half marathon. The second half is less hilly and about half the race is in Golden Gate Park. The worst hill in the race is the Golden Gate bridge since you have to go over it twice.

Hey everyone!
I am pretty new to running (just about a year) but I really want to try the Tink and Princess races. I'm thinking 2015 will be my year lol! I was just wondering if anyone who has done them/any endurance races has asthma and how the heat/humidity affected them if so. Right now I can do a 13:30 minute mile, but that is inside in a temperature controlled environment lol. Any information is greatly appreciated :flower3:

My wife and son both have asthma and they have both run distances up to a full marathon. Humidity affects them much more than just heat. We are in Sacramento so humidity is not much of a problem. If you can run early in the morning it would probably be the best time. We will actually start longer workouts s soon as it is light enough to see (5am in the summer).

Have you run outside? I find that my pace outside is much faster than on a treadmill and I believe it is easier to run outside due to the distractions around you, variables in the terrain and just plain momentum of moving forward.

I'm from Sacramento too and am all too familiar with those 5am runs this time of year. I miss getting to sleep in on the weekends!

I already summited time for the half but with the 10k being new and how they had choose our pace times like the 5k I wasn't sure if we needed to summit a time.

Thank you for your reply. I haven't run much outside this summer, I have done 5k's in the past and am registered for a 10k this fall, but haven't done a real distance event yet. I am in upstate NY so it does tend to get very humid here in the summertime. I will try and do the early morning runs outside and see how I do. Again, thanks for your replay and suggestions. :goodvibes

Thanks! GGB might be bad b/c you have to run it twice, but the view, if the fog's light enough, definitely makes up for it! :goodvibes

 Hi! No experience w/ asthma, but for weather wise for Tink, no worries about humidity! In all my DL races, there was only 1 time there was humidity and that was for the 5k that's in Sept, but even that was gone by the afternoon and gone for the 1/2. And if you're coming from the East Coast, you should be fine heat wise. It'll be warmer than winter in NY, but no where near warm for summer NY. At least for me, the past 2 years, I was in capri tights and a short sleeve shirt and was fine. If you're at 13:30 now, even inside, you will definitely be fine by 2015!

I am a relative new runner, one year as of June 24th and have BAD asthma.

I ran Tinker Belle this year and did not have problems with my asthma. I take pill meds and inhalers. I do my usual routine before the race and use my rescue inhaler right before I start across the start line. For Tink I did use my rescue inhaler around mile 10, which for me was about 2 1/2 hours into the race.

I live in the Pacific Northwet so am used to wet air. Cold air gets to me more but I did not have not have trouble at Disneyland in January.
