Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

 Hi! No experience w/ asthma, but for weather wise for Tink, no worries about humidity! In all my DL races, there was only 1 time there was humidity and that was for the 5k that's in Sept, but even that was gone by the afternoon and gone for the 1/2. And if you're coming from the East Coast, you should be fine heat wise. It'll be warmer than winter in NY, but no where near warm for summer NY. At least for me, the past 2 years, I was in capri tights and a short sleeve shirt and was fine. If you're at 13:30 now, even inside, you will definitely be fine by 2015!

:wave2: Hi! Thank you for the encouragement! So glad to hear humidity may be manageable as that was my biggest concern. I'm hoping to get down to around 10 or 11 minutes by then, or even faster if I can. :cool1: I also was able to enter a contest for a chance at the wine and dine 1/2 in November, so super excited about that!:yay:

I am a relative new runner, one year as of June 24th and have BAD asthma.

I ran Tinker Belle this year and did not have problems with my asthma. I take pill meds and inhalers. I do my usual routine before the race and use my rescue inhaler right before I start across the start line. For Tink I did use my rescue inhaler around mile 10, which for me was about 2 1/2 hours into the race.

I live in the Pacific Northwet so am used to wet air. Cold air gets to me more but I did not have not have trouble at Disneyland in January.

Thank you for sharing this! And Congrats on your race :goodvibes. I will definitely be sure to have my inhaler on hand.

Someone mentioned getting AP rates for the Disney Hotels. When I looked, there were no AP rates available yet. Did I miss something?

They will not be out yet and since it's a race weekend...well I bet AP rates may not even be available.

I called disney reservations and they stated it is too early and AP prices are not in the system yet.
I still booked and will hopefully change my reservation as ap prices are announced.

FYI Tinks! If you suffer from PF at all, my most favorite shoe to fight the pain, Sole brand, is having a sale on a bunch of their flip flops. (yoursole.com) I live in these...it's the only thing that gives me immediate relief when the PF is flaring up....they are great to have to put on post-run too. I'm definitely picking up a couple today while they are on sale...they are a bit more than I want to pay for a flip flop when they are regular price! (But TOTALLY worth it!) Gonna post this for all the Princesses too!

Thanks so much for the information! I may do the same thing. I didn't think that the special rates through gettravel.com were very good. I'd rather have the option to make changes and apply discounts that come up.

That's why I booked through Disney. I can change dates ( if available) and cancel and get a full refund.
I did book PPH ( and went with an upgrade)....now I'm 2nd guessing myself. I went online to book a standard room and they don't have any. Guess I'm going to enjoy my upgrade :)

Do they have corrals in the 5 or 10k?

The 5K has corrals, but no-one really pays attention since it is not timed. You line up on Main Street in front of the castle so the earlier you get ther the farther forward you will be. The runners will usually take up all of main street.

I am sure the 10K will have corrals that will be enforced since it is timed and we will probably use the same start mats as the half.

i asked my daughter about running the 5K , and she said she wanted to do the 10k!!! yikes......i'm not sure she could do it. she's done lots of 5k's with me.....but she's pretty dead after 3 miles....and we do Galloway!!! i'm not sure how i'll get her up to 6 miles....and in the dead of winter in Indiana!!

My 12 year old will be doing the 10k with me as well. She made the "leap" fro m5-10k last year. She wasnt happy about it, I will admit. BUT, the only reason she wanted to do the 10k again was because we will be at Disney and she knows she will get to see the characters and the park before it opens!

Course question for those that did Tink last year...

I remember towards the end of the race we ran right by the entrace to Hojo's before coming back out on Harbor. Does anyone remember what mile we were in at that point? I didn't know we would be running by the hotel last year. If they leave the course the same for this year I'd love to be able to let my mom and DD know about what time I think I'll be running by so they can come see me!

yeah....she wants to run through the Castle.....do they do that in DL runs? She starts Cross Country next week, so hopefully that'll give her a better idea than her 100M's in track. LOL

For the 1/2 yes, the 5k ~ depends on the course next year, the past 2 years we've started at the castle, but not run through it, and the 10k? We are for the DDD 10k, so we'll have to see what Detective Patty can rile up Tink in the next couple of months. :goodvibes

This was posted on the Princess board on FB, but it really applies to any rD races I think!

Who loves Larry like I love Larry after reading this?!

I love it! I'm totally printing that out and hanging it on my closet door of NY motivational quotes.

According to the course map that is about mile 11.5.

Yes, I still have the course map pdf for the half and 5K.

I'm in!!

This will be my first DL race! I've done the Princess in 2012 and will be doing the Princess in 2014 as well.

We are doing the 10K and the half at Tink!
