Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

Pretty much every sport has their athletes playing for their national team as well as there pro team.

It is just my opinion...

Also for (not you) person saying if you work at an arena you are happy.. It depends what you do.. One of my close friends has the contract for the Habs equipment, to and fro the airport.. As well as a few other NHL teams.. He is beyond excited.. He gets to take a winter vacation.. The people serving hot dogs and things like that lose a LOT of money.. They throw in a few concerts, but nothing like their regular pay.

They have insurance, it's one of the reasons during the Team Canada summer camp they didn't actually skate, insurance, for the 2 day mini camps would have been over $1MM.

ie. Hockey Canada is paying the insurance premiums for the NHLers on Team Canada to play. If Tavares misses any NHL time the insurance will pay out to his club team.
Injuries at the tournament aren't what I was referring (although they're a issue as well). I meant regular NHL seasons that have a more condensed schedule like in Olympic years, usually lead to more injuries.

Oh, I didn't know.. I still think if it were a front contender with a star like Crosby, insurance couldn't pay nearly enough..

Agreed, on the schedule causing more injuries.

then check out the schedule for soccer players in europe there season starten the first 2 weeks of august last year but if they had to qualify for like the euro league some teams started early july the last match this season wil be around may 5th due to the world cup because the rules say the team has to have 28 days before the worldcup and next season will start around early to mid july again for the qualifers and then august start of season and then the fun of national matches start again for euro 2016 in september

I agree, you seem to be a Habs fan, what if Price pulls a groin and is done for the year? I'm a Leafs fan, what if Kessel hurts his knee, or wrist? I'd be pretty upset.

But I think the Olympic tournament is worth it.... I'm pro NHL + Olympics.

regular season one a week here in europe dont know about the usa league but then there will be national cup matches euro leugue matches national matches and there will be friendly matches i know most us sports play more games but they have more players like a top team here in holland here it would be around 24 players

NHL during an Olympic year, plays 14 games a month, for six months. Often 5 games in 7 nights.

I know Soccer is a very tough sport, but NHL Hockey isn't exactly a waltz through the petunias either.

mabey they should change the rules a bit like with soccer on the olympics u have to be under 23 with 2 members of the team that can be older

These Olympic hockey matches have lasted 2:10 instead of the usual NHL 2:30 matches. ;)

Go USA!!

How come the people who are serving hot dogs losing money? Aren't they working the same amount of games?

Congrats to the Canadian women's bobsled team who had a great final run to edge out the US pair who was leading all the way up to that point.

Also to Ted Ligety for gold in the Giant Slalom, which I consider the first "legitimate" gold the US has won.

Just watched Gracie Gold skate, who I was rooting for. Think it looked like a hot mess. The choreography and music just didn't seem to go together for me. The commentators were very generous in their critique, I just didn't see it.

And with all that's being said about LoLo Jones, I thought it was very gracious of her to be so complimentary of her driver. The starts were great (well except for one). It was definitely the driving that lost it for them. But she even joked about how her first Olympics went. :rolleyes1

What was wrong with the other gold medals thusfar?

I don't know how they're paid... but would you want to go 3 weeks without a pay cheque?

This is more what I meant.. These are mainly students around here.. I know my 17 year old budgets with his Mcd's pay as he is going to school.. Three weeks without pay hurts, and then while they cram those games later, it might not be feasibly for everyone to work (school, or other things).

Catching up on the ladies figures skating short program. Some wonderful and amazing skating by the ladies last night. Nice to see.

Here's to more amazing grace in the long program.

And congratulations to Brooklee Han, the Aussie skater who qualified in 22nd place for the chance to skate her long program. Well done!

Huh? :confused3

They all cheated? Bought judges? It's was the coach's fault with ice dancing. That's already been established.

Or maybe he means that the other medals weren't for real sports. :coffee:

I am guessing he means timed sports are not subjective. You win or lose on your own skill (or lack thereof), not what someone else decides is acceptable.
