Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

what do u guys think of the boss of the nhl that he says no more ice hockey on the olympics

I think some form a regular hockey tournament is important. So if NHL drops out of Olympics, I would hope they would arrange some kind of tournament held every 4 years in August/Sept time frame. A World Cup of Hockey basically, and timed so NHL pros can take part.

but that is already there i find it sad that one every 4 years it cant be stopped for 3 weeks

LOVE IT!! It's been quite the nail biter...the CBC was commenting that the Latvian goalie has made 55 saves against $149 million worth of NHL stars! Truly amazing performance. If he weren't playing against us I would definitely be cheer for him.

Canada vs US in the semi!!

He was incredible.. I hope they put an IV on him right away though.. Poor guy really.. Was a back up in Syracuse.. NO longer me thinks:thumbsup2

I love to watch the underdogs win (1980 ring a bell?) :goodvibes

Is she the one who was so spectacular in the team comp? I said then I thought she could possibly come in and take the gold, shocking the world. I've been looking forward to seeing her.

Her teammate was fantastic, though. Russia still has an excellent shot at a medal in women's figure skating.

if you worked at an NHL arena would you be happy with being out of work for 2 out of 4 weeks in Feb? I know the NHL owners really don't like shutting their league down mid season, not to mention it causes a condensed schedule which leads to more injuries. NHL gets literally no money from their appearances at the Olympics. If the NHL organised a World Cup of Hockey, they would be able to get revenue from it.

Again I like the NHL at the Olympics, and if I had my way they'd stay at the Olympics, but I also see why the owners don't like it.

Yep. Tavares is out for the remainder, so imagine how the Islanders feel now, as they pay him..

Well that may be good then, as Canada seems to be the underdog this year.

 Just like the USA/Russia and Canada/Latvia games, I hope it's a fantastic game, regardless of who wins. Of course I'd love it if the USA won, but as long as it's a good, hard fought game, I'm happy.

then they should get insurance as soccer teams now do too with many top players being injured during national games

I agree, to a point :rotfl2:

They can't , they are basically moonlighting..

As much as I love to watch it, I don't agree with it at all.... You have a job, you are paid millions, PLAY for you pays you.

I don't like it and I don't think the actual decision has been made yet. I love seeing the NHL players compete as it usually ends up being some of the best hockey you will see.

so what u are saying just quit with all the national games because u are paid by an employer u cant compete for your national team

For me yes.. You are a pro, playing for your team/league, and when injuries happen it isn't your national team who "may" pay the price for the rest of the season.. The playoffs are coming up, these men will be tired, and their employer may suffer..

Pretty much every sport has their athletes playing for their national team as well as there pro team.

They have insurance, it's one of the reasons during the Team Canada summer camp they didn't actually skate, insurance, for the 2 day mini camps would have been over $1MM.

ie. Hockey Canada is paying the insurance premiums for the NHLers on Team Canada to play. If Tavares misses any NHL time the insurance will pay out to his club team.
Injuries at the tournament aren't what I was referring (although they're a issue as well). I meant regular NHL seasons that have a more condensed schedule like in Olympic years, usually lead to more injuries.
