did u guys see the speed skating 1500m ladies wow we got top 4 which has never been done before
It hasn't been aired here yet but I saw the result. That is an amazing accomplishment. The Dutch are really on fire this year. :)

We were away for the weekend but had it on the dvr intell my son watch it and the deleted it. My hubby was not happy with him for that. Its a good thing they are showning highlights of the game.

Did that Russian spectator just give a double digit salute after the bobsled run? :lmao:

Ugh. Jacobellis blows it AGAIN. Maybe she just can't work under pressure?

I felt so sorry for her...she had such a huge lead. Guess the guy's races are delayed due to fog.

Aerials starting...should be entertaining.

Great game...loved Oshie!

I started calling him Glacier Man after his second score. Tremendous job working on the frayed nerves and psyching the other goalie out!

If that catches on, you heard it here first!

I am a total novice with hockey, but after watching the US-Russia game, wow, was that ever exciting!

The "shootout" seems comparable to the "sudden death" overtime that we have in American football. Yes, probably not reflective of the entire team effort, but sometimes, you gotta do something to end the game.

I don't see that anyone has mentioned Bode Miller. I was really glad his time held up for a bronze for the men's super-G, becoming the oldest man to get a medal in an Alpine event. But I was so mad at that NBC interviewer - she kept on bring up his brother, over and over. It was clear she was badgering him to make him cry. It was uncomfortable to watch. She should have had the decency to just thank him and let him go when he started to choke up.

Glad they have started the bobsleds. Too bad the Jamaicans had such problems - the announcers kept saying that they are actually pretty good athletes. I know they have great sprinters, but they seem to have real problems driving that sled.

And finally, the ice dancing was wonderful. Really hope Meryl Davis and Charlie White get the first ice dancing gold for the US! They were magnificent last night!!!

We thought that reporter was completely out of line. And as that was not airing live, I though they shouldn't have aired that at all.

The shootout and sudden death are nothing alike. A shootout is a gimmicky skills competition where a sudden death situation you are still playing the game.

Didn't see the Bode Miller situation, but that sounds like a turnoff. What I did see aired, and replayed a few times was a horrendous snowboard cross crash where the boarder was obviously knocked out quite cold, then tumbled and tumbled. By the time that portion of the event aired on NBC the final outcome of the event was long past. It was a horrible, horrible sight and watching there was no way of knowing if the concussion was going to be the least of her worries. Granted, by the time they aired it they knew she had not broken her neck and was not paralyzed, but nobody needed to see that.

Sudden death occurs in overtime, not in a regular game.

It is a skills competition, usually with the better place kicker scoring a field goal first, and winning the game.

And recent rule changes have called for alternating possessions, like, oh, say, a shootout.

I know what sudden death is and it is not a skills competition. The team still needs to move the ball against the defense to score. They also don't alternate if the first team scores a TD. If they score a FG, the other team gets a chance to score. After one possession each, it is back to whoever scores. But it is still against a defense.

A hockey shootout involves only the shooter and the goalie, there is no play just the "break away".

And is the goalie not the defense?

Look, we are going to have to agree to disagree.

I said they were similar, not exactly alike.
If you want to split hairs, go right ahead.
I have better things to do with my time.

Like cheer for Team USA.

I think it's necessary in the early rounds so they don't end up with a quadruple OT game and leave those teams vulnerable to other teams that got more rest.

Don't watch much hockey, do you?

It is definitely a different deal with whole teams on the ice. TJ Oshie is kind of a medicre scorer under normal circumstances.

But again, I understand why they do it.

I would much rather see them leave the game as a tie than use the shootout. A shootout is a gimmick, nothing more. It can be exciting but that's it. That is part of the reason there are discussions in the NHL about getting rid of it.

Glad you think it is funny. If you think a series of penalty shots (something that doesn't happen very often) is similar to two team continuing to play in the same manner to determine the winner, you really don't understand one of the two games you are comparing.

Now, THAT'S a great idea!

Gold medals for EVERYBODY!!! :thumbsup2
