Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

Torah! Torah! Torah!

Congratulations for the silver medal in the ladies halfpipe.

We're on the medal board. :thumbsup2
Yay! A big congratulations to Australia.

And meanwhile the Dutch and Norwegians keep on rolling along. This is fun. :)

Yay...I wasn't sure if I should say anything since everyone won't have see it...she was fantastic! Don't know if I really agree with the medal winners in pairs...I'll be interested to hear what everyone thinks after seeing it tonight. Another feel good story: Canadian speed skater Gilmore Junio qualified to race today when the favourite Denny Morrison fell at the the Canadian Olympic trials. Yesterday Junio gave his spot in the race to Morrison because he thought he had a better chance of winning then cheered as Morrison raced to a silver medal this morning. Morrison is now lobbying for Junio to be the flag bearer at the closing ceremony because he showed true Olympic spirit. :goodvibes

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on pairs.

I have to say I loved the Russian's Jesus Christ Superstar skate. Powerful music, powerful skating!

Has anyone else noticed how few people are there? The ice arena is more than half empty for events, the crowds at the bottom of the snow events are tiny and when they show the plazas, they are almost empty.

Their performance was good but I think the other Russian pair had the skate of the night, and I personally don't really think if you fall twice you should get a medal...I know they judge the strength of the other skills but two major errors should have drop them off the podium.

Maybe this was mentioned earlier and I missed it.

The Sochi Olympic flame tower reminds me an awful lot of the inclined tower at the Montreal Olympic stadium. (Not that the Montreal tower was finished in time for the 1976 games).

Earlier on in the games it was reported on one of our Canadian news stations that the time it took clearing security checks was resulting in attendance drops.

Agree with you on the German team & the falls. I do think the Russian team who won deserved it, although both were amazing!

Whilst I'm happy to claim the gold, I think Torah Bright was equally happy with silver. (as am I!!....afterall, it's all about being there, right??? :rotfl:)

LOL. Sorry, I'm getting myself so confused. I swore I read that the downhill skiers from the US placed first and second earlier today. I think they came in 8th and 9th. :rotfl2:

Between watching the constant replays and the 'encore' performances, I'm losing track of who's where and which events are happening live. :p

They didn't get third in the free skate. But their short program score carried them over. The reality is beyond the 2 Russian pairs, the pairs division was rather weak this year.

I know! I'm not seeing anything live, so I'm getting pieces from the DIS, online, etc. And then many times I open something to find out I knew that already because it was from the day before. :happytv:

Wrung out emotionally from watching the men's short skates. Have to take a break.
