Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

Signed up for the Dopey and booked he Poly. Woot woot! Should be fun. :cool1:

It's official! 4 races and SIX medals! WOOT! Now THAT is something to seriously consider!

5k medal
10k medal
1/2 Donald Medal
Full Mickey Medal
Goofy Medal
Dopey medal

Bring on the BLING!

It's loud enough wearing all three medals after finishing the Goofy Challenge. Good lord, the clanging from ALL of these medals is going to be deafening. (Hmm... if the 5k is rubber instead, maybe that can at least be a minor damper on the volume.)

That said, I can't WAIT to actually have all of those medals around my neck. Barely over 9 months to go!

Booked Saratoga Springs for the weekend! Holy cow! This is really going to happen! Let the airline stalking begin!

I'm officially signed up for the Dopey. And I think I really am Dopey. But I can't resist the multiple medals! And inaugural races! I was originally dreaming of doing Goofy in 2014, but had pretty much decided to push that until 2015, until I heard about the Dopey. This will likely be the only time I get back east for Marathon weekend, as I am a west-coaster, so I'm going to live it up!

This is going to be a crazy year! I've been running for 2 years now, and have my 10th 1/2 marathon coming up, will be running my first full this summer, followed by my first back-to-back races -- the Dumbo Double Down! -- and then the Dopey.

Anyone else planning on flying directly from WDW to Disneyland to do the Tinkerbell the following weekend? I've done the last 2 Tinks, and don't want to break my streak, so that's my plan right now. I've always dreamed of standing in the Magic Kingdom in the morning and Disneyland at night. :hyper:

I have to go through the site again but do you get a Goofy medal too if you do the Dopey? I gathered it was a medal for each race plus a Dopey. But a Goofy too? I must check the site again.

Okay nevermind I found it. It makes sense to get a Goofy medal too since you are doing that as well.

Knowing its a lot money...comparing it to other races...they do have it very organized. It is planned down to the T and it runs very smooth. I have been in races that are less costly but one in particular that was a big ole mess...so while its pricy they do pay out a lot for the organizers, the port o johns and God bless the volunteers!

THANK YOU!!!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Haines City 70.3 next month
Sprints in July and August
IMFL Panama City Beach in November
Space Coast Half Marathon in November
some others thrown in for good measure and

2014 Official DOPEY after 2011, 2012 and 2013 unofficial Dopey events

McFlurry John, you were the topic of a conversation I had with my brother last night. Our goal is to one day be fast enough in the full to run down and get a McFlurry. Thought you would find it funny that two people you never met or saw in your life were discussing you!

my bolding....I look forward to that day and the McFlurry for both of you will be my treat!

BTW, thanks for the laugh. :thumbsup2

After my completion of the official Dopey, I will then officially be Dopey McFlurry John. My family members can attest to the fact that I am truly Dopey even now.

Is anyone planning to run any big races as part of their Dopey training? I plan on entering a couple of halfs but am wondering about doing a marathon before Dopey. Specifically the NYC marathon at the beginning of November. I can get a bib if I want. Is that a good idea or a bad idea??

My first inclination is that it would help my training by building my mileage. The Galloway plan has you go to 26 or even more during training (at the end of December) so.....maybe a good way to get the miles in??

Last year for my unofficial dopey I ran 6 half marathons and 1 full (at the end of September). I really liked having the experience before going into the challenge. I had a couple of bad race experiences during my half marathons which helped me build a better race plan each time. My two cents is to do it, however use them for experience and try not to beat yourself up over PR's etc.
Plus if you can get a bib for the NYC I would go for it!!!

It was not part of my plan BUT, I am doing Marine Corps Marathon in October and Wine and Dine two weeks later ONLY because I was already registered for them before Dopey was announced.

This would be amazing! Maybe I can convince DH another year. Already begged for 2014 Dopey and Dumbo so I don't think I can squeeze in the Tink. Very, very cool!

Yes, I'm running the RNR Savannah the beginning of November. If I could get a bib for NYC, I would absolutely positively run! Do it!

Looks like you beat the active.com site crash! Woohoo! Wasn't able to get in this year. Looking forward to a MCM race report.

Before registering for the new official Dopey, I had already registered for IMFL in early November with the Space Coast Half Marathon a few weeks later. I will continue a taper schedule after the SC Half up until Marathon Weekend.

Actually, mine was quite easy. It was a deferment from last year. Didn't feel that I was sufficiently trained for 2012. If I had planned to do all of these races so close together, I could probably qualify for a Stupid Challenge medal.

Big = lots of runners or big = lots of miles?

I'm running the Wine & Dine half. I may run another half in October, but I would really like to run another full in November or December. I think my DH really needs to run a full in November or December, since he's never run 26.2. He's reasonably fast (1:38 for half PR) and I know it will bother him if his first full marathon is at the end of Dopey, shuffling along and stopping for all the photos with me. He'll do better at Dopey if he gets a "real" full marathon out of his system first!

I used Jeff Galloway's "to improve" marathon plan for Mickey in January. Yes, it was my first full, but I've been running for 5 years, I'd run 7 half marathons before it, and I use Galloway's scheduled walk breaks. It wasn't like I was doing a couch-to-marathon plan. I did a 26 and 28 mile long run and think it help me a lot on race day!

It's a couple months early (late Oct), but I am thinking about doing the 12-hour Bad Apple Ultra, both because it sounds like fun, and because it would be oood training.

I booked my flights this morning! Flying in on Tuesday morning and then leaving Monday morning. At first I was afraid this was going to end up being a solo trip for me, but talking to my mom last night, it sounds like my parents want to come support me! Yay! PLUS, they aren't doing their annual trip to Hawaii next year, so my mom wants to book the Polynesian! Even more yay!! :hyper:

As for races during training, right now I'm registered for the RnR Portland Half in May, the RnR Seattle Full in June, and the Dumbo Double in September. I might try to add one more race in the fall - maybe the Biggest Loser Seattle Half in October? Or the Seattle Marathon in December?

I will do a full marathon in Newport Rhode Island in the fall...one of the prettiest I must say. Aside from that I am signed up for numerous half marathons here and there.
