Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

I'm looking at doing the Medoc Mountain trail marathon in Late October and I'm looking at doing either the outer banks half or full two weeks later. I've only done 2 fulls (both were part of Goofies) some im excited about the possibility of just running a full marathon to see if I can substantially improve my time.

Im running MCM and W&D prior to. Also probably the Houston warmup series.

About that NYC marathon bib - any chance you have 2? :)

wish i did! can't hurt for me to ask.

i'm looking at different training plans for goofy (galloway or hal higdon intermediate 2 which he says is good for goofy) and trying to figure out how to work on one of those plans to do a fall marathon and then keep it going for dopey. eeesh, it's not going to be easy. worth it, but not easy :)

I assume that Jeff will release some sort of Dopey plan, but you can look at his Goofy plans and take a good guess that it'll be very similar, with (assuming that you do long run Sunday, half that on Saturday) short runs moved to Thursday and Friday, with M-W rest days.

Yea I have to actually use a plan this year. I think im going to need to be more consistent in my training and add some speed work and training on tired legs.

I'm just going to start the Galloway marathon plan now for my October marathon then pickup from there on the goofy plan for my dopey plan. Basically count backwards from wow weekend and go from there.

I used Higdon's Intermediate 2 plan for Goofy in 2012. It worked very well for me as it allows for a long run on Sunday and a run half that length the day before. It does prepare you for the back to back runs if you follow it. I am sure it would be just as good for Dopey.

the intermediate 2 program has a rest on friday before the two back to back long runs. i wonder if switching thurs and fri would be a good idea to get a three times in a row training in there.

I committed or I should be committed - not sure which ;). Hubby and I are registered for Dopey!

For those of you who might have snow in November and December, how do you get your long runs in?

I have an irrational fear of falling on ice/snow. And I've heard that long miles on a treadmill can risk stress fractures when you switch to running outside.

My local Y has an indoor track, but that would be a LOT of laps. I'll take boring over an injury risk any day, so this seems like my best bet so far.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm doing ToT, Marine Corps, Wine and Dine, then dopey.

I was at a NY roadrunner packet pick up as a volunteer and I think I managed to pique the interest of some of the other runners there about marathon weekend. I'm like some kind of drug pusher.

I suck it up on the treadmill.. I hate running in the snow. Most of the time the sidewalks are not plowed and the streets are much thinner than usual from snow banks.
I use different shoes on the treadmill than I do on the roads so that helps (the sole is a foam sole) I think it feels better on the treadmill.
My motivation is usually an old tv show or movie on my ipad. That I will only allow myself to watch when on the treadmill. To be honest with you every spring I have trouble getting off the treadmill and back on the roads. I get accustomed to watching TV on it. But we just finally got our sidewalks here a couple of weeks ago the the weather is finally nice.. So I make myself do a couple local races to get back in the outside groove... In the later months this year it will again be a struggle to get back on the treadmill...

I will do a full marathon in Newport Rhode Island in the fall...one of the prettiest I must say. Aside from that I am signed up for numerous half marathons here and there.

Are you doing the amica full? I am signed up for that one!! It looks beautiful.. I am really excited about trying it!

Add me to the Dopey list! :thumbsup2 :yay:

I will be solo this trip because my running partner (sister) is pregnant and will have the baby just a month or so before this race. Anyone else going to be there solo?
