Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Hmmm, I'm a little worried about registering. My husband and I are Legacy runners, and we wanted to at least get to 10 years. I received an email today from Run Disney saying to make sure and try to register immediately on Tuesday.

It then said if I couldn't get through, or the race sold out fast, that I had until Wednesday night to call them and they would register us because we were legacy runners.

This makes me think that they are filling up on AP and DVC pre-registrations. We do not have an annual pass any more, nor are we vacation club members.

This is quite concerning! I hope we don't have to end our streak at eight years!

It sounds like you shouldn't have to worry, since they are offering to register you even if the race sells out, as long as you email them right away.

So...I checked today for HAHA's...my payment is still pending, I received my confirmation emails, but RunDisney does not have record of me...I will be calling Active to see if my registration is good or not :/

Argh... just checked my statement and was charged an extra time. I called active who confirmed I had been registered twice but couldn't do refunds so they transferred me to runDisney who couldn't refund a charge who gave me an email address for sales at Disney to send an email to. :headache:

I love Disney but it seems like every time I interact with a website associated in any way with them I have problems, hopefully they can rebate the extra charge easily. I debated just disputing the charge with my bank but don't want to risk them cancelling both charges and ending up not registered for the race.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I got the same email as well so even though the 1/2 might sell out, they want to make sure the legacy runners like us at least have a chance to register.

Well I just got shot in the foot by Run Disney. They changed the corral change deadline from July 1st to June 1st! And considering I don't have a bloody clue how my recovery from surgery is going to go and when I am going to get to run a 10k. I don't know when I will get to submit a proof of time change if at all.

The way things are looking Race on the Base maybe my only chance to guarantee a shot that isn't the last corral. And that's in February. I am not happy right now.

on my registration it lists july 1 as the cut off...

No matter where you stay, you'll likely be within walking distance of the start line. So no need to wake up extra early to bus anywhere!

Also, since the parks are so close to one another, you tend to get a lot of concentrated park time during the first half of the race, and then running through the streets of Anaheim during the second half. The drawback is Disney can't have their characters on the streets, but there is still plenty of on-course entertainment, and more easy points of access for spectators.

So what time do you get up? I normally am quick getting reading at WDW. I am up at 3am in order to catch the bus by 3:30am. Will I be "sleeping in" for this race?

I've found it easier to get faster time splits at 10ks than at halfs. Also because 10ks are much shorter the difference between paces is a lot less drastic than it would be in a half. An 80 minute 10k is just under a 13 minute/mile pace while a 90 minute is 14:30 min/mile pace. Where as in a half in order to get the same pace that you would get running an 80 minute 10k you would have to run a half in 2:48 and the 90 minute 10k pace would in turn be at 3:09 approximately. That's a 20 minute gap in the half versus a 10 minute gap in the 10k. Point is it is a lot easier to qualify for the faster corrals in a 10k distance with just a slight change in time than it is at the half distance. Since the distance is shorter it allows for more fluctuations in the time.

Thanks for the info!! I'll go the 10k route. Much appreciated!

This year's Tinker Bell started at 5 AM. I got up at 3:45 and left the hotel at 4:15 for the 20 minute walk to the corrals from my hotel. How late you sleep in depends on how close your hotel is to the start line and how early you want to be at the corrals.

Eh where are you looking because on the official webpage it lists June 1st. Admittedly July 1st makes a lot more sense.

So I registered with Jim Stone last week but have not gotten anything in writing back which makes me nervous. Additionally, I saw someone post on his facebook that they had been lied too about having a spot so now I am nervous. He charged my credit card thoughts?

FYI, it was posted on FB earlier today that there will be another small window of opportunity for AP holders to register, starting at 8am PST on the 28th. So if you missed out on signing up for what you wanted on the 22nd, here's another shot for you before it opens up to everyone.

I signed up for the 10k during the AP window, but now I was thinking I might try to do the Dumbo, or just the 1/2. What can I do with my 10k reservation? Can it be transferred to someone else?

No unfortunately.. you could defer it to next year, but active says no refunds, so that's probably your only option.

Per Disney policy, you cannot transfer your bib to anyone. you can defer it for next year, but that makes no sense to me because you still have to pay again.. the only thing it does is ensures you have a spot for next year's 10k. if you decide to add the half on, you won't be able to get the dumbo paraphernalia and extra shirt/medal.

of course, you could sell your bib, but that person would be running as you, and if either of you (you and buyer) were caught, you'd be banned from runDisney events in the future too. people do it all the time, but it's a risk i wouldn't want to take.

lol last year's tink woke up at 5 (my #1 fear: oversleeping) when my friends were texting/calling that they were at the warm up area and heading to the corrals. fortunately i lived close and our corral was the last one, so i knew we had at least 30 minutes before they actually started running after the wheelchair/elites go. :) yes, depends how close you are and well.. your ability to move fast lol. and which corral you're in. ;)

Yikes! That's my #1 race fear, too, which is why I always set at least 4 alarms, if not more! :)
