Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

I am sometimes tempted to run with a Clif Bar pace group. I did it once (WDW Marathon) and the pacer dropped well below pace about mile 21. I don't know how often this happens -- my guess is not often... still, be prepared.

Some pacers are loquacious and loud, and this may not jive with your running style. These attributes alone boost my enthusiasm to dig deep in order to propel past, and well beyond, a pace group with this type of leader :)

Thanks for posting that article. It was a good course description. I'm looking forward to this race!

I was thinking about trying to follow a pace group to keep myself on target, but they're all in such early corrals. The 3:00 pace group is in Corral E, but I'm in Corral H with a proof of time near 3:00.

I feel like this was an issue for either the WDW half or maybe even TOT. They weren't where one thought they should be.

I am now scared of the long incline for all those miles. :headache: But I suppose it's good to know now rather than later!

For those reading that club bar article I am fairly sure it is from last year. Those are last years corrals

That's completely weird. It was either from their FB feed yesterday or emailed to me. And it's currently on their page for the upcoming race.

But...I posted it for the course description, not for anything else, FWIW.

On the other hand, it's not good that they have an undated article that might be from last year, so close to this year's race!

Yes, not looking forward to the incline for 4 miles or the narrow dusty gravel path! But better to know now and plan for it a bit.

I just finished our outfits for the 10k, what do you guys think? Of course we'll be wearing Dis green! I'll bet there will be a lot of hula skirts out there for the 10k.

Very cute!

I agree about the costumes. I'm expecting to see lots of Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and leis that weekend :rotfl:

Anyone else have race outfits to post? I've only finished one of ours so far, and will probably wait until they're all done before I post pictures.

Yes, not looking forward to the incline for 4 miles

The lowest point to highest point of that stretch differs by only ~40 feet. Visually it just appears like flat surface streets, other than the overpass over the freeway after mile 4 and the underpass beneath the railroad bridge at mile 6. Both of those have just as much down as they do up.

Another site with a good course description is doombuggyrunner.com . He has done a couple posts with pictures of what to expect on race day. Plus he tells you where the bathrooms are that you will pass inside the theme parks. :)

Sheesh, that Clif article is just silly all over the place. "As you approach Angel Stadium through the parking lot, prepare to be literally lifted off your feet by countless spectators, cheerleading squads and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops."
I did not realize the angels stadium included crowd surfing! This'll be FUN!:woohoo::rotfl2::confused3

Yeah, I don't know. It is a live link for sure but their paces do not match the corrals and clearly don't go all the way to the end. If I kept with the pacer in my corral I would be WAY off of pace. Like by 30 minutes. That's not cool.

Here is another link for the course and elevation

It is only a max gain of 62 feet, I think the Clif article is horrible, it's only a 50 foot gain over 4 miles! If I were reading that, and it was my first half, and I was concerned about pace, it might freak me out they way they have worded it.

I would also argue that the "worst" is not over. To me, a 50 foot gain over 4 miles is not all that noticeable, if even at all. However, from mile 9.76 to mile 10.12 you also have a 50ft gain. That is likely to be noticed. They call them "sharp" hills and that there is two but I think that first one is likely to be not so fun, the second not nearly as noticeable.

Lol! It is one of my pet peeves when people use the word 'literally' wrong. The worst one is 'I literally died of embarrassment'. No, you didn't. You're here telling me the story :lmao:

Thanks for highlighting this part of the article -- The mental imagery is hysterical!! :rotfl:

That is actually an inaccurate representation around the stadium. The course does not extend that far north by the river, it runs on the west side of the river on the Santa Ana River Trail (not the east side), and the stadium portion is also not at 200+ feet. There is a quick climb that takes about 25 paces to get off the trail up to parking lot level but you actually run downhill into the stadium, and a short gradual uphill to get out.

I'm curious, the photos that doombuggyrunner links to on WhyIRunDisney.com shows time clocks at different distances, for example 1:02:07 at mile 5 (reflecting a pace of around 12 1/2 min/mile). Given that it takes (I'm guessing) something like an hour to get everyone from all the corrals across the starting line when do the course clocks start ticking? When the first runner goes off? The last?

The clock starts running as the first runners depart. This is the time that is displayed on the clocks throughout the course. Each runner's ChronoTrack B-tag keeps track of that individual's race time.

The clock at the finish line read 3:22:59 when I crossed it but my net time for the half marathon last year was 2:34:11, which represents how long it took me once I crossed the start line to when I crossed the finish line according to my "bib."

So I'll just have to ignore the clocks. Thanks.

I wonder how many people finish the race before the last runners even make it onto the course.

Sweet time! Well done.

Grammar jokes, I love it!!

My absolute most hated grammatical error is people who write "of" when they meant the contraction " 've" :scared:

I would of come, but I didn't have time.
I should of just told a CM, but couldn't find one.
I'd of laughed, if I weren't so busy screaming on the inside.

:crazy2:

At that point I'd love to be lifted off my feet for a little break! I will now be disappointed when this doesn't happen :rotfl2:
