**** Official 2014 AUGUST - Disneyland thread ****

Well, we had our hotel and tickets purchased already but today we bought our plane tickets!!!

we are still debating though if we are going to upgrade to APs or not. We are most definitely Disney park people and would prefer to go for 7 days in park (which includes our arrival day and departure day) than take a break day off or arrive later in the day/leave earlier in the day. Our original plan was to buy our 5 day hopper (which we did) and then pick up a 2 day hopper for the other 2 days; but for the same price we can upgrade our 5 day hopper to the deluxe annual pass but would have to shell out black out day tickets for the Saturday we are there. We could also upgrade to the premium pass which would make going for a quick spring trip in 2015 more doable, but that's not a for sure thing and we won't be back before they expire in August of 2015.

too many decisions.... and still so much time to deliberate

Oh my!! Just reading that made me dizzy :faint: I hope you figure it all out, wish I could help!

August 29-September 3 for the Dumbo Double Dare! :dumbo:
Me (Alice) and my sis Laura, staying at the Islander.

Mmmmm! I'm really enjoying all this talk about treats!! I am expanding my list now! LOL. Here are the ones that jumped out at me and will be on my list...
Matterhorn Macaroon, Mint Julep, English toffee and the pickle!

Thanks so much for sharing!!!

Her Tikki223 - my two DD's and I are doing DDD too! Have you done this race before? Where will you be staying?

I'm so glad I found this thread :yay:

I am planning a trip to DL for my family - DH, DD 10, and myself. We are from CT. DH and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year. Our honeymoon was in WDW, and we have been back every year since (except last year - I am in Disney withdrawal!).

I have been to DL twice, back 100 years ago when I was a teenager. DH and DD have never been. We are hoping to do a few days in San Diego, then DL. I have been going back and forth between visiting in June or August. I've been scared off a bit about the weather in June, although I hope August is not too hot for me or too crowded.

Dates are not firm yet, but I am thinking of going to SD first then driving to DL. We will probably go around August 8.

Going to WDW is so easy - I know what/when to plan everything, etc. Everything about a DL trip is new to me, so any tips or advice would be great. Also, is there anywhere else you would recommend visiting in the area? Thanks!

We just returned two days ago from DLR and are now counting down to our August trip :) We bought APs so I may take the kids on a road trip in July and sneak a few days in before the next family vacation.

I have so many favorite snacks! I look forward to snacks more than meals, actually.

My top ones would be (so hard to choose!): churros, chimichangas (Edelweiss in DL, stand near Monster's ride in DCA), corn dogs from the Little Red Wagon at the end of Main Street, Mickey beignets, apple drink (Red's apple freeze from Cozy Cones at DCA and whatever it's called ;) at Maurice's cart in DL), and a treat from Jolly Holiday Bakery or Pooh's corner. I also really enjoy the big pickles and pineapple spears

We often make a meal out of a snack. One chimi will fill up my two DDs and me (DH is so-so on them) for hours. Corn dogs are a great shared meal while waiting for fireworks or the parade. We always buy one snack and share between the four of us, and we share meals, too, so we get to try more things by doing this.

There are so many yummy things to try! I actually keep a list in the notepad app of my phone of snacks/meals to try for each visit. I organize it by park and then land. My DH laughs at me for this, but then he gets to enjoy all the good food he wouldn't know about otherwise and thanks me! :rotfl:

Glad I am not the only insane one here! We got back March 14th and I started planning our next trip three days later! We have APs that expire Sept 13th so I wanted to get one more trip out of them. Of course, we are coming from Canada, so a quick road trip is not going to happen, but I am so jealous of people who live close enough to DL to be able to do that.

We are up near Seattle, so it would definitely not be a quick road trip. I am thinking of doing a long road trip that ends in Disneyland. We have friends and family in the bay area so thought I just might keep going. :goodvibes

We are considering a two-day end of college four trip. While the college tour is for our 16-year-old, our 13-year-old is going as a good sport (not really, but we can hope). Anyway, two days in August may seem crazy, but we're hoping for the best. We're not expecting to do everything, and any time at DL is wonderful. August 5-6, Castle Inn.

Wow, that is a fair drive! We're just a bit North of you, in Vancouver Island and there is no way I would consider driving.

I am in the Lower Mainland and our family drove once when I was a kid it was a long way. These days with the dollar dropping and the price of gas flying is the way I go. Plus it's also the time.

Crazy how many Canadians there are on this thread, especially how many British Colombians!

As for the drive, I doubt I could make it though two days driving without killing my husband so that is pretty much off the table. It looks like we are probably going up to Kelowna for a few days this summer so we. If it try that drive as a test!

I think it's because a lot of schools in the U.S. go back in August, but Canadians don't go back until Sept.

We've done the drive to the Okanagan several times, as we have relatives there. We like to get on the earliest ferry, then drive until Hope and stop for lunch or a snack, then stop in Merrit for gas and a potty break, then we usually get to Summerland before dinner. Sometimes we stop in Langly to visit friends on the way there, or stop in Surrey at the big mall that has the Disney Store and Lego Store. The new highway from Surrey to the ferry is really nice now.

Yep, many a Canadian!
I had attempted to give helpful replies to certain particular questions over time, but so far have been more miss than hit! Lol So it appears that there are quite a few differences in travel and disney, for our neighbors up north in comparison to the U.S. So I quit...... ;)

Maybe...but we are so polite we would never dare to let you know that your advice was less than helpful! :lmao:

Yippee, I am officially booked! Please put me down for Paradise Pier Aug 23-27! :)

Yay! :cool1:

Thinking of a trip from Wednesday August 6th through Monday August 11th. Am I crazy? How busy do you think it will be?

Thanks!

I haven't been any other time of the year but I find early August pretty doable. Some day I hope to have another time to compare it to.

So sorry I've been AWOL for a bit. I was crazy busy getting ready and sending my daughter off on a 10 day mission trip to Guatemala. She's on her way now so I will have SOOO much time to be on here over Easter break! I'm off work, family had our get togethers last week before DD left, no teenager to drive around and take shopping so it all adds up to LOTS OF FREE TIME to plan my trip :lmao:

I'm so glad I found this thread :yay:

YAY! :thumbsup2 Welcome!!! I will add in your information. I will just put you down on the 8th for now. Let me know if it changes and how many days you will stay when you figure it all out.
I am SO with you on the difficulties in planning. I know how to tour WDW like the back of my hand. Don't even have to write anything down anymore. Just show up early and I know exactly where to go and when. DL however, I'm lost!!! I have heard it's not quite the same as WDW though and the line ups don't get as long as WDW so I'm just going to plug my rides into RideMax, follow a plan and enjoy the ride. It'll be hard for me as I ENJOY comando touring and have converted DD and DH as well who always look to me to know EXACTLY what to do on any given day in any given situation LOL. This will certainly be an adventure ;)

So jealous of all your trips you lucky person!!!::yes::

A few people have mentioned those frozen apple drinks now. I'm usually a frozen lemonade fan but DD loves apple juice so maybe we'll sample one of those this year.

Your notepad app sounds like a GREAT idea!!! I may take your idea! lol. That way we won't miss out on ANY of our must try goodies!!! :goodvibes

YAY!!! I will get that updated! :thumbsup2

YAY!!! :thumbsup2 Welcome!!! I will add you in. I can't say for sure how the crowds will be as I've never been to DL before. I'm more knowledgable about WDW. I'm sure being that it's summer it's got to be busy, especially because at that time Canadians and Americans are still out of school. However, I've heard if you compare it to WDW it's not got the same horrible wait times anyway. My advice is, plan to arrive before park opening and take advantage of those quieter morning hours and you'll get so much more done.
