**** Official 2014 AUGUST - Disneyland thread ****

My husband and I have decided to go to Disneyland for our 40th birthdays. Neither of us have ever been. I have done Disney World 5 times and he has been there once. He must have really enjoyed it as it was his suggestion to go to Disneyland :). I used disboards to plan our April 2012 trip and got tons of great info...looking forward to doing the same for this trip. I recognized "wakica from Saskatchewan" from the official April 2012 thread! :thumbsup2
We will be staying Aug 1-Aug 10.

YAY!!! :thumbsup2 Welcome!!! I will get your info added in on the first page. You have an amazing memory!!! That's so cool we are going the same month again This will be my first time at DL and I'm expecting to love it!!!!

Cant quite figure out how to do the "ticker" again. I am guessing the one above was from 2 years ago.

I'm not sure what is up with the tickers. I couldn't get mine to work either and have never had problems in the past. Someone had to come to my rescue!!! lol

I have kind of a strange question. Is anyone going the same week we are (August 17-22) and staying in a hotel across the street on Harbor who isn't using his/her parking spot? We might have an extra car in our group and I know DI&S only allows one car per room (we already asked when we made the reservation). I just thought if someone else wasn't using a spot at a nearby hotel, you might let us pay for it and use it at a nearby locale. (Of course, this is all hypothetical, we might all end up in the same car anyway).

We're (probably, might be next door at the Del Sol) staying at the DI&S *almost* exactly your dates. We are there Aug 19-24. You can use our spot if you want but the dates don't quite line up.

Although, if you do use our spot, I might ask a favour in the form of picking us up a flat of water. (I'd reimburse you of course!) :)

We will be there August 2, 3, and 4. First time in California (have been to DLP several times) Getting a little excited now !

Mickey pretzel and a corn dog!

Oh! And English Toffee, so yummy!

OH! And where do you find it? For those of us that may not know.

For us it's the FAMOUS Dole Whips ::yes::::yes::::yes::
They are SO SO SO SO Yummy!!! I don't know where to find them in DL though - just WDW so pointers on where to find them would be great.

We also LOVE to get a funnel cake sundae while on our Florida trips (Usually at Universal Studios though) Does anyone know if DL has them anywhere?

Other than that I guess DD and I are addicted to getting frozen drinks in the parks. It's always helpful for cooling down. I usually like a frozen lemon type drink or treat so if anyone knows where the best places are to get those in DL please let me know that too.

OH! almost forgot - In WDW we ALWAYS make our own treat at Goofy's Candy Store in DTD. Is there a place in DL that you can do this? We REALLY want to do it if there is. You pick your base - cookie or rice crispie or marshmallows, pick what it gets dipped in, what gets sprinkled on it and what gets drizzled on it. I sure hope DL has something like that.

Dole whips are found at the Tiki Bar just to the left as you enter AdventureLand.

Not sure about funnel cakes though.

You can get frozen lemonade at one of the Cozy Cones in CarsLand and since it is in DCA, you can get them with vodka as well! Very yummy!

You can get frozen apple juice in Bugs land and in Toon Town.

Our family likes to get Sundaes at Golden Horshoe. We sit upstairs at a table facing the show. I forget what the sundae is called, but I think it's hot fudge and it comes with two chocolate chip cookies. I also like the chocolate chip mint sundae.

We also love the popcorn in DL, and I like to spring for the cute buckets. I hope they have R2D2 when we're there.

The day before we leave, I usually pick up a few packages of Chip and Dale pretzels and Minnie's bake shop cookies from the candy shop in DCA. They're perfect for the plane ride home. On our last trip, I picked up a big hexagon shaped sampler of Wonderland tea. It almost didn't fit in my suitcase! This year I'll have to see if I can find the french vanilla and the mad hatter blend.

And, not really a snack per say, but I love the little bite sized crem brule cups at Goofy's Kitchen.

OH! And where do you find it? For those of us that may not know.

English Toffee is number one (we go so far as to take many many packages home with us) followed by the mint julep and beignets at the Mint Julep bar in NOS.

Favorite a Disney Snack: Matterhorn Macaroon (from the Jolly Holiday... wondering of it is sold anywhere else though?), Ghirardellis ice cream, Mickey pretzel and English toffee to take home!

Well, we had our hotel and tickets purchased already but today we bought our plane tickets!!!

we are still debating though if we are going to upgrade to APs or not. We are most definitely Disney park people and would prefer to go for 7 days in park (which includes our arrival day and departure day) than take a break day off or arrive later in the day/leave earlier in the day. Our original plan was to buy our 5 day hopper (which we did) and then pick up a 2 day hopper for the other 2 days; but for the same price we can upgrade our 5 day hopper to the deluxe annual pass but would have to shell out black out day tickets for the Saturday we are there. We could also upgrade to the premium pass which would make going for a quick spring trip in 2015 more doable, but that's not a for sure thing and we won't be back before they expire in August of 2015.

too many decisions.... and still so much time to deliberate

What are your dates? Did you know that Sat Aug 23rd is not blocked out for deluxe? Since you already have the 5 day PHs, you could use those on the Saturday and upgrade on the Saturday (as long as this isn't your 6th or 7th day). Also, you'd be able to use your Magic Morning that morning. Also, plan your expensive meals for after you get your pass so you get the discount.

*nevermind. I just looked at your dates on Pg 1 and it looks like your in the parks from a Sunday to a Saturday. Guess my strategy doesn't work.

I can't wait to try the Matterhorn Macaroon! Is it big enough to share?

We always bring a flat or two of water with us so that wouldn't be a problem. I appreciate it and will let you know as we get closer what we might need. Thanks!

As for snacks, what is NOT to love is the better question. We tend to eat our way through DL.

Churros are probably at the top of my list. They are just better there than ANYWHERE else (and believe me, I've tried them all over the place). I have to eat one every day. Last time we did get the churro bites at the Cozy Cone and my kids really liked those too.

Dole Whips are a close second although I usually just get one or two of those over a five day stay.

Pomme Frites and Bignettes from Cafe Orleans. Corn Dogs from the Corn Dog Castle at DCA. Anything and everything from Bengal BBQ. DH loves the cream cheese jalapeno pretzels. It is ALL good.

Last time we were there at Christmas and got to enjoy all the yummy holiday treats too. So good!!!

I have a FB friend that was at DL this last week and kept posting pictures of the food they were eating. Made me more excited to go (not that I need much help in that department).

We love everything Mickey shaped...ice cream, pretzels, rice crispies etc. But our very favorite that we must have is the BIG PICKLE! Our four boys have many pickles every trip to Disney (mom and dad have one or two as well). You can get them at nearly every fruit stand.

:goodvibes
