Where is the best place to find an updated ride closure list? Are there any attractions listed to be closed for refurb in August?
Thanks!

According to touring plans, it looks like Nemo doesn't open again until Sept 26th and Matterhorn goes down on Aug 25th until November (we're looking at going Aug 21-28th, so we better ride the Matterhorn at the beginning of our trip!) Also Tangled meet n greet is down until dec 31st, but I think that's where the Frozen princesses are now.

This one is fairly accurate:

Ride Rehab list

It looks like so far the only closures are:

01/06/14 - 09/26/14 - Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
05/27/14 - 08/14/14 - Matterhorn Bobsleds

Interesting...touring plans has a different date for Matterhorn than here on the DIS.

Strange. That's a difference of 2 months! I'm kind of surprised they would start the refurb in August right before a race and long weekend, instead of waiting until Sept. to start the refurb.

I noticed two different dates for the Matternhorn refurb too. I guess it's best to go by the Disney one which says it will be open as of mid August but then again I think it's RUMOR that it's going to shut down later in August instead. So, until we hear the rumor is official by seeing Disney post it I am assuming it will be open at the end of Aug. Planning on doing that park first anyway though just in case the rumor is true.

Thanks for the ticker pointers. I will see what I can do to fix it. I will cry if I have to lose my Tink

Please please let his be true... My daughter really wants to right the Matterhorn again...
Little one will be sad about about nemo... But an extra visit to mickey will be a good trade off..

8/8 was the same date we were looking at for BTM BBQ too! We have never done this, and the food looks soooo good!

So of the old pics show Jessie and woody there, but I guess that has stop..
Is there any other kind of entertainment that happens?

We LOVE BTM BBQ! Never miss it! IMHO it's the best bang for your buck in the park. We usually like to go just before dusk, nice ambiance, but not too dark. If you go at night, it's pretty poorly lit, with just lanterns. Might be nice for just adults, but adds a level of chaos when managing the kiddos.

Entertainment is great! We did have Woody and Jesse two years ago, they didn't really make rounds, but they were there. Mostly, Tex Tumbleweed walks around playing the guitar and interacting with guests. He's funny and entertaining.

Have a great time! We'll be the table with 7 children under 7... hard to miss, ha ha. (I promise we wont' ruin your meal... they're good kids :littleangel:)

Have you gone at lunch and if so, how does it compare?

I've never been for lunch, though I think it'd be a nice spot to cool off in the heat of the day, secluded and shaded.

I know it's 3 or 4 bucks cheaper, but they also do not serve smoked sausage or corn on the cob for lunch. Those are only available during dinner.

Also, I don't know what type of entertainment they have.

Thought it might be a good idea if we could share some August specific tips for DLR. The parks can be quite a different experience in the heat of the summer coupled with summer crowds.

So what are you tips for the heat and crowds? Favorite foods/experiences during the summer?

My number one summer tip would be a noon-afternoon break! It's always hottest and most crowded from noonish to two or three. If we don't want to leave the park, we find a place inside and just relax. You won't miss out on much as far as rides go, as lines will be longest then. Take the two hours to recharge so you can stay later and enjoy thinning crowds late in the day.

A few of my favorite afternoon hangouts:

Disney Animation Building - All indoors, very cool and plenty to do still. This is a very magical building for us, surrounded by Disney Animation

ADR's for lunch at Ariel's Grotto - Pricey, but with ADR's no wait, indoors and characters!

Hungry Bear Restaurant - Covered and near the water, usually can find a shaded table. Kids love the ducks and looking out over the water

Tiki Room - Dole Whips and a shaded wait... that's heaven right there. And the show is long enough to catch your breath. No question a little bit of Walt can be felt here. Disney all the way.

We always take an afternoon break! Our son gets overwhelmed and needs some down time even if he no longer needs an afternoon rest!

Our favourite lesser known cool place is the Main Street Cinema. It's rarely crowded and it has awesome AC! It's also got low lighting and 6 screens of black and white cartoons so it is a perfect place for DS to relax and decompress!

Although, if I keep posting about it online, it's not going to be uncrowded for long! :p

I tried removing my name with Tink but it still didn't work.
Phew!! I really didn't want to remove my siggy anyway LOL. Someone from DIS made it for me my last trip so it's sort of sentimental. LOL. The same goes for my avatar! I love Eric, Ariel and their daughter because the hair colour all matches with my family so I had someone wonderful from DIS design that one for me a Loooong time ago. One becomes VERY attached to these things it seems ::yes::

Just change the two final } to a ] and it will work. (I had to change those characters otherwise the code would not show up!)

I will have to join the chorus of taking a break in the afternoon. We usually head back after lunch for a swim and a rest. DH and I were just discussing taking longer breaks since we never make it all the way to closing... Maybe a longer break is in order.

We love the lobby of the GCH. The first year we stayed off site and during our wondering thru DTD we decided to check it out. So relaxing especially when the piano player is there.

We also like the Hungry Bear lower level in the back by the river. Perfect spot for a break

:scared: OUR FAVORITE BEAT THE HEAT/CROWDS TIPS ARE...

- :sunny: THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM.
we hit the parks before opening to enjoy the cool weather and no lines for the first hour or two.

- :beach: NAPS & POOL BREAKS ARE GREAT!
leaving the park in it's peak heat and crowds (afternoon) is the BEST way to hide from crowds and get a chance to relax. Then when everyone is refreshed we head back in to enjoy the evening. That way we aren't dragging ourselves by evening and wanting our day to just end already.

- :artist: ENJOY LESS POPULAR RIDES IN THE AFTERNOON.
We hit all the top priority (and busy) rides in the first several hours. In the afternoon we will do things that are not so busy and hopefully in a cool location. Shows & animation place where you learn to draw Disney characters. Last time we were in WDW DH and DD did the drawing thing twice in a row while I just rested my aching feet, enjoyed the cool, and people watched :D

- :woohoo: FAST PASSES!
Get those fast passes every time you have an opening. It will cut down on your wait time for the more popular rides and keep you from standing in some HOT, slow, line ups.

- :mickeybar EAT AT OFF TIMES!
This one is easy for us because we already do this but we only have 3 park days this time so we will definitely work our eating times out well.

We eat breakfast before going (quick stuff) then we stop for two 10 minute breaks at about 11:00 and 2:00 for snacks (2:00 one is IF we stay at the park) and then eat an early supper at 4pm. We often eat at 4:30 or 5 anyway so it's not a stretch for us at all and we prefer small amounts through out the day so this is always an easy one for us.

- :umbrella: HATS & NECK COOLERS:
I ALWAYS make sure to have a hat in the park. I also made some neck coolers for one of our trips several years back and I bring those and take them with me if the forcast is for a really hot day. They are cloth and you fill them with the tiny beads that expand and hold water once placed in water for several minutes. I tie it around my neck or wrist if it's a wrist one and it helps to keep me a little bit cooler.

- :drinking: WATER;
We take water bottles into the park. I prefer to take them partly frozen so they aren't warm by the end of the day.
