I am shooting for under 14 as well!!
Me, too!
I am shooting for under 14 as well!!
If 11-12 minute mile pace is SLOW then I am in REAL TROUBLE, I am hoping for under 14 minutes!
I ran the first half of the Disney marathon in 12 minute miles and then combined walking and running from mile 14 on putting me in the 13 and change minute per mile, definitely not fast but after looking at the results online I think that finish put me somewhere right around the middle of the pack including those that didn't finish,I believe like 25,000 started and my place was 12,000 something, very average but I can live with it.For the ToT I'll definitely be more in the 11 minute per mile pace with it being a shorter race.
Make no mistake - chances are high that it WILL be hot and humid; that's just the way it is down here in early Oct. But you won't have sun beating down, you will have adrenaline pumping, and you have all summer to acclimate to running in warmer weather. Will slowing your pace to deal with the heat ruin the race for you? I think that's the main consideration; I know for some folks that's a big, fat YES.Maybe I should reconsider running this one since it will almost certainly be in conditions similar to my run this morning.
I was totally acclimated to scorching summer runs by early Sept.; TOT wound up feeling a lot more comfortable to me. But I live in a place even more humid than WDW and ran all summer in sunlight.Yes it will be a shorter race, but take into account the heat!! I normally run a 10:30/11:00 pace, but for the Tower last year I was a straight 12:00 pace due to the heat (I only stopped for one pic and that had no line).

She was okay, wasn't sick at all, but for sure - I think anyone not used to running in swamp-like conditions ought to plan on slowing down for TOT.
I ended up doing fine with that pace, and I only puked after riding TSM![]()
Yeah, we considered TSM for about a second... and said "Nope." TOT was fine, but spinning? Uh-uh.![]()

i will probably be in last coral as i dont have a time to submit and cant find any local UK events to enter in the meantime, i would have liked to try and do somthing in the UK around August time to prepare myself for what a true event is like.
My only goals are to finish the race without being swept, without an injury, and without passing out. So really that's one goal: finish the race.
Mine 2!!

Goals are good to have! Mine...
1. Have fun!
2. Beat my time from last yearwell that should not be hard considering...
3. Finish really this comes from a lady who did awesome at the PHM this year?
4. Attend the after party.
On the subject of racing in the heat... Last night was my first truly uncomfortable run of summer: temp 88 with a Heat Index of 94, blazing FL sun, AND I was trying to push a 10:30 pace. Recipe for disaster, folks. I overheated big time and the wheels came off 2.5 miles into a total of 3. Final avg pace was 12:21.
BUT, here's the takeaway for folks worried about the heat - best thing I've found to slow myself down on a hot run? More walk breaks. Just throw in an extended walk interval every so often. It slows the heart, eases muscles and helps me far more than trying to run slower on the run intervals.
I was soooo tempted to do just that!...but I probably should have just called and asked someone to pick me up.
That's AWESOME news! The good news - I drank enough water yesterday to totally overcome my self-induced meltdown. I was able to run 7 miles this morning (only 73 degrees out) at a 10:22 pace without taking a single walk break. From now on, I am getting my behind up earlier.![]()
