Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Keep meaning to ask if you are in the AF as I noticed the logo

Not sure what star is being referred to below your post, but that is the AF logo in my sig and I actually just separated from the AF last year after nine years of active duty service and six deployments. I now train young bucks to do what I used to, which is a significantly less stressful and risky job which I find quite enjoyable. :thumbsup2

And now I have more time for vacations and races!

I'm trying to figure out my routine for Saturday after the 10k in terms of recovery/prep for the half. I wore compression sleeves and took an ice bath after the Tinker Bell and felt great the next day. Of course great for walking around and great to run a half marathon are 2 different things. What is everyone else doing to recover? Does anyone wear compression sleeves post work out? If so, do you wear different ones than you do while running? And how long do you wear them for?

Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated...this is my first back to back race experience!

I knew you were an AF guy with the logo in your sig (during my civil service days I was the contracting officer in charge of the redesign !).

Deployments are not fun...DH retired after 21 years and now flies for SWA so we just traded one deployment for another type ! thanks for your service and sacrifice...see you in the race...we wil be in the back....way back. In fact looking at your times in your sig you could probably head back to your hotel and change, then meet us at the finish line !:rotfl2:

Silly iPhones, I thought she was asking me and was super confused.
Thank you so much for your service!!!! <3

Hi everyone, has anyone had to defer the DL 1/2 or DDD this year?
I was told by my orthopedic I could do the 10K but 1/2 was iffy, and up to me how I felt. Went to defer and now I'm thinking twice. runDisney makes it really hard to. I'm still unsure of the terms, and the runDisney rep I spoke with was less than helpful. She told me the contract has changed this year and to read it. I still have questions which she didn't answer. Looking for anyone else who may understand it all.
Any help would be appreciated! :)

I usually wear my compression sleeves most of the day after a long run (but I don't wear them while running) and try to keep moving. I did try my first ice bath after my 11 miler this weekend and it was awesome!

I wear my compression socks after long runs too. It helps me so much. I have never done ice baths but I have soaked my legs in the pool and that has always been nice:).

I have absolutely no desire for an ice bath but I have soaked my foot in ice water. After my 9 miler last week, I tried it and it seemed to help. I have heel pain my left foot. That's really the only thing that truly hurts after a run so why bother with the shock of an all over bath?

Brrrrr!!!

After my runs especially the long ones....I sit on a couple of reusable ice packs for my hamstrings. After a few minutes and some chocolate milk it's off to the showers. Next day no pain at all.

Definite TM all this week...highs of 100+and lows of 78...just gotta be cooler for the DL half ":confused3

Thanks everyone. Maybe I'll get an extra pair of compression socks for after the run.

Anyone thinking about a WISH meet before the races yet? :goodvibes

At the inaugural Tinker Bell we met at the fountain across from the entry to World of Disney closest to the Grand Californian. It was a short meet and then pictures.

Hoping that folks will also be meeting at the W tent before and after the races.

One of the big reasons I do these races is so I can see my WISH friends. :teeth:

That sounds good to me, maybe Saturday at 4pm? Think we generally get a bigger gaggle on Sat vs Fri because some people fly in late for the half. If we get enough people who think that time/place will work I'll throw it in the top post.

If anyone else has better ideas throw them out there! :cool1:

I was just checking the thread to see when the meet up was. Ill keep checking for the final decision.

works for me, too :thumbsup2 I will keep checking back. I'm getting really excited...bought the Unofficial Guide to DL yesterday.
