Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

How do you know what coral you are in already? Or are assuming you are in G.

I was assigned H last year....right next to the pop's and it stunk!

Before our coral even got up to the start line in the half...now remember, we didn't even start the race yet! They announced that the first person just crossed the finish line!

I think we crossed the start line close to 630am...and were the last to cross in our coral...and right behind us were the balloon ladies!

runDisney released the corral breakdowns by bib number last week. There are links a couple pages back as well as being on the runDisney website.

That's cool! I've not seen any Simbas, but I have seen some Ariels out on the road that you could probably Google up pics for some ideas on how you might do it. Simplest is some kind of green running skirt or shorts combined with a purple tank or sports bra. I've seen some people combine the top with flesh toned material under, though I don't know where that comes from, or if those were maybe part of an actual retail costume. Some simple additions to cap off the clothing might be some kind of temporary washable hair coloring spray/chalk and a tropical flower or "starfish" hair clip. Try a Google image search for "little mermaid running costume" for additional ideas, and maybe check out Team Sparkle's running costumes page for ideas of how to use different materials and objects for this or other, future runs.

Simba could be a bit trickier, but maybe some clothing in a muted yellow or tan if you can find it. With all the crafty people on Etsy or possibly even in your local craft stores, you might be able to craft a headband with some lion ears and add some additional material to simulate a mane. . .:confused3

A craftier person might have an idea of what kind of materials you could use to fashion a small tail, and if you could sew it to a clip of some sort, clip it to the back of some shorts -- or like we did for our duck tails as Donald and Daisy, we had ostrich feathers on a hair clip and then safety pinned the hairclip to the back of our shorts.

Hopefully this helps give you some ideas on where you could start with these or any other costumes between now and the race! One thing to keep in mind with costumes, though, is to try them out on a test run prior to the race to be sure that elements of the costume don't irritate you! If you aren't able to get something together before this race, just enjoy those around you and soak up the ideas for your next Disney race!;)

You can find flesh colored material at a fabric store. I'd probably use (and this will sound weird) swimsuit lining material- light weight, stretchable, and very breathable.
As for the headband and tail, I'd use felt. You can hot glue it to pretty much anything and it won't fray. :)

Since we are on the topic of costumes, I may be changing mine a little. I found a (kindof) flesh-colored cami at Gap and I am sewing shells to it for my Ariel get-up. Still going to run in the green Team Sparkle skirt. I will only use the top if the humidity is low enough since it is a cotton blend, I plan on bringing my purple running top as a backup if it is too wet out;).
Once it is done I will post pictures.

Wow, thanks so much for all of the suggestions! I can definitely look out for a cool Piglet and Pooh! Congratulations on Goofy Challenge too!

My favorite Disney movies are The Little Mermaid and The Lion King, so I was thinking either Simba or Ariel (polar opposites, haha). I don't like to run with a lot of stuff, so something functional and easy would be great. I'll take a look at the places you mentioned for some ideas.

It's a lot of fun to check out the costumes on the course. One of my teammates is doing Goofy for next year and already has a costume ready for each race, haha. But she is much more experienced in the running/costume game. :)

You can go super simple or all out elaborate, whatever your comfort level. I have seen purple tops, green bottoms, red hair and starfish clips for Ariel. I have also seen people running in full on tails that drag behind them (please don't do this! Can you say safety hazard!!) If you want to go a little more than color scheme but less than turning into a fish get an inexpensive white or tan running top and sew on purple shells and find a green bottom (I am wearing Team Sparkle because they are cute, not super expensive, and I don't have room in my luggage for a tutu, you can always make a tutu for super cheap and they take no time).
For Simba I love the headband a PP had a picture of. You could look for yellow running gear and add tan accents for the tummy (or not) and make a tail out of matching fabric to attach the way the PP suggested. If you really wanted to get into if you could paint your nose and make whiskers, lol. They may not last though.
The thing with costumes is to have fun with it! I don't spend a ton of money on mine and they don't last forever because they just need to make it through that race. They don't even always do that! I stripped off pieces of my Donald costume this January (and some never made it on me, I was originally going to wear tights) because it was just too hot to wear the extra pieces! It was still fun while it lasted. I do try to make my foundation good tried a true pieces of running gear that won't bother me:).
HTH even a little and have a great race!!

I've gone really simple with my costumes.
As Minnie at W&D 2012, I had a black tech shirt, black tech capris, a red skirt with white polka dots (from the Target kids section!), and Minnie ears/bow headband.
As Ariel, I had a purple tech tank and Sparkle Skirts green sequin skirt. It was for the full marathon, so I didn't want to add any other pieces.

For DDD, I'm going as Rapunzel for the 10k and Dumbo for the half.

Can you get reassigned to a different corral at the expo? I updated my proof of time with a 10k race, at a 10:49 min/mile pace and they decided that this would put me in corral D at a 12:35 pace. I believe I've earned corral C, where the pace is 11:00 min/mile.

Bring proof of time to runner relations. The worst they can say is no.

For the 2013 races you should be able to change at the expo. Print out your proof of time so you done have to do it there.

Beginning in 2014 you have to update your time by a certain date, depending on the race, and no changes will be allowed at the expo.

Actually, that's what I did, submitted the updated proof in May, but I guess the difference between a 10k time and a half marathon time leaves some wiggle room. I am running a half this Saturday, so I will bring that proof and remove the ambiguity. Thanks!

I can run a 10k in just over an hour (9:45 min/mile), but my half time is closer to a 10:45 min/mile. I just squeaked into C with a 10:54 min/mile half. If you're like most people, your pace will be slower the longer the distance. ;) There's a website that will estimate your time based off other distances. I can't remember the name, sorry.
That being said, it doesn't hurt to bring your 10k time to the expo. :)

Yes, I will see how the half I'm doing this weekend turns out. It's supposedly a downhill run, but it's also at 8500 feet up in the mountains. That should counteract flat and sea level just fine. The average time of my last eight training runs is 11 min/mile without the race day adrenaline.

Other posters have mentioned www.mcmillanrunning.com as a possible tool that runDisney may use. You might try it out with your times to see what it comes up with.

Best of luck to you! Shoot for your goal, but be careful not to overdo it and injure yourself, too. Hope you get your time!:thumbsup2

Finally ran today after nearly 2 weeks without running! I only did 2 and I had to stop for 2 very short walk breaks. Hopefully I'll get back up to full spead fast!

Good luck to all the 2013 runners! I am planning on running this next year to get my C2C. Already thinking about where to stay and what else to do while we're there! I googled 2014 Disneyland Half registration to see if it was going to happen earlier than last year, and the beta Active.com link is already up (but not open to the public). Can't wait to GSC and DDD in the same year - 4 races, 7 medals. :)

Has anyone heard if there is going to be a special Dooney and Bourke Collection for this race? I don't think I could resist a Dumbo purse!!
