Heading to Disney World tomorrow and hoping to get up early Sat and run 5 miles around the AKL just to get a feel for how it is to run around Disney.
Hope you have a great time!

Does anyone else have the problem of your hands swelling while running? Mine do, and they end up looking like the StayPuff Marshmallow Man!
If so, what do you do about it to keep it from happening, or keep it from being so bad?

Can anyone tell me about full compression tights? I've been using compression calf sleeves through summer and now need to wear a compression knee brace, too, AND have been told compression shorts are a good idea for my ITB/hip/glute issues... seems like it would be easier to just wear compression tights instead of doing it piecemeal. Do they squeeze about the same as all of those individual elements?
I can tell you that they don't make them for short people with extra junk in the trunk!
I've searched high and low for a really good pair that fit me properly and I don't believe they exist.
I KNEW it! I was looking at some at Road Runner Sports and they all have these ridiculous inseams - even the "petites" would be long on me! I'm seriously considering a trial run of Spanx under my regular old tights. They're pretty squeezy!![]()

I'm running with DH, even though he won't wear a skirt or pretty tiara! It is princess after all!. We're staying at CSR and making a 10 day vacation out of it! This will be my first Princess and first 1/2 marathon! I've been training pretty hard but I think I might end up doing walk/run intervals.
lululemon athletica will custom hem their run tights if you need, free of charge.! Great to know! I am only 5'1. Also what I did last year was I bought a pair of the 7/8 run tights that would be short on a tall person but on me they were regular full tights!

Sometimes my hands get puffy so I just put my hands above my heart or head for a little while---looks stilly but it works for me.
Maybe someone else can chime in ????
Cripey said:thanks, that's good to know! I really like the Nike capri length dri-fits at the moment. I just really would've liked to have had a pair of the CW-X compression shorts, capris or tightsI feel like they would've done wonders for the soreness in my hips and quads after really long runs.

Hi! I trained in 20-40 degree weather here in ny. I actually love it. Gear is the most important thing with cold weather running. Cotton socks, cotton anything can be dangerous in cold. Always look for wicking, athletic fabrics, and layer for warmth and protection.
I worked for lululemon athletica for years and stocked up on amazing cold weather run gear. I basically wear long, wicking, compression tights as my bottom. For my top I layer a wicking bra-tank (Power Y style, I am small busted so it works for me) and tuck it into the tights. Then my long sleeve is called a Run: Swiftly Tech Long Sleeve. It's an anti bacterial, vented, wicking shirt. If it is 30-40 i really only need just that because I really heat up right away. If it's particularly cold or windy I add a wicking hooded pullover that has cuffins for my hands and a hole for my garmin, clutch ;-) The run tights have 5 pockets, 3 in the waistband and 2 vents that can be vents or pockets on the leg. They rock. This year the tights have 7 pockets or more! I also use a wicking ear warmer. I have to bring bounty paper towels because my nose POURS snot! Sorry for grossness! I put that in my waistband or in the pocket of the hoodie.
Warrior Dash is probably a really good entry level mud/OCR if you want something that isn't super girly or full on brutal. For girlier (but not totally priss) you could try Dirty Girl. It's fun and a fair entry level one with options to do easier obstacles if they look too daunting. I would avoid Pretty Muddy as it's basically inflatable purple children's toys. If you want to look at something that gives levels to work toward a "system" of races, the Spartan Races start with the Sprint and then the Super and then the Beast (and there are more for those wanting even more challenge). Merrill Down & Dirty offers a 5K and 10K option and I would say they are challenging but not horribly awful. For a first time to see if you like it, I would probably go Warrior Dash or Dirty Girl. Those are fun and not overly competitive where you are going to be plowed down by some die-hard elite team and will give you enough of a taste to see if you like it.
These are all ones that run as a series in different locations so you can find them near you. There may also be ones that are exclusive to your area.
Mud runs are totally my thing and I am happy to answer any questions or if you think of a race and want an opinion, I know a lot of people who run these even if it's one I haven't done yet.
I'll be adding a cheap pair of fuggs or warm slippers to add to my shopping list. I'm not too worried about the running part, but I am worried about standing around in the cold pre-race.![]()
I went on a 6 mile hike today with a friend of mine. I was Miss Graceful and slipped, falling right on my tailbone about 3 miles in! It was incredibly painful and I'm worried that I'm not going to get in my long run this weekend. Not to mention when I slid, I fell into a giant pool of algae/bacteria infested cold water. Luckily my friend is a strong guy, and lifted me up and out quickly, only for me to slip and fall again because my shoes were soaked. Needless to say, I'm pretty beat up after that hike. And I thought I was doin' some special bonding with mother nature, instead she kicked my butt, literally
!
I hope everyone is safe out there on their runs! Especially those tackling the snow - I'm happy to be in Arizona reading about all the gear you guys wear. I'm still in tank tops and capris. 70 degrees and almost December![]()
Oh no, I hope you are feeling okay today!!
70, I'm jealous. Although I run much faster in the cold (and breath easier), it was a bitter 26 yesterday morning and I just couldn't do it so I hit the treadmill. It feels much warmer today (33) so I'm getting ready to head outside.
I've pretty much decided I'm going to dress as Alice for the race. I know she's not a real princess but my daughter dressed as her for Halloween and she is the current favorite in the house. Now to figure out how to put the outfit together.

tinkeramy said:Holy cow - tell me which pants they are that have so many pockets?!?! I think I have a pocket fetish and I just can't find many satisfactory pants with them.
I do believe a girlfriend and I are committed to and recruiting for the Dirty Girl when it comes to Atl in April. Neither of us have ever done one before but I saw some friends' pictures from last year and it looked like a blast!
I HATE the cold - HATE it. It was cold last year but I had a cheap pair of knee socks that I had cut the foot off of and used them as arm sleeves. They worked fine. Was wishing, though, that I had tucked them in a waistband instead of cast them to the side because post race was freezing. You know how chilled you get when your body cools down and it was misting rain.
Oh, no! Well, at least you can laugh about it! I hope it is just soreness and not something more complicated. Sometimes Mother Nature's a b****!
LOVE Alice! Got the DVD for my birthday this year! I am a big honking ninny about the cold, but the year I started training for my first Princess was the year we got actual, honest to God snow in Georgia! I was out there and felt okay while I was running, but when I got back inside and tried to talk to my husband, I realized that I couldn't feel my face! Kinda freaked me out a little!
I found a pair of compression tights at Old Navy. I'm 5'2 and they fit pretty much just right, lengthwise. Cheap, too.
REALLY wishing I had a treadmill / gym membership for weekends like this. Supposed to do 7.5 this weekend. Old neighbors are coming to see the new house and play at 10:30 Saturday. DS4 has a birthday party from 1-5. Sunday? Church, another party for Mr. Popular and a boy scout den meeting for DS10. These kids are cramping my miles!!!!!!!!!!!!
Based off a few of these recent posts - is there a benefit in running in 'compression' pants/tights/socks/etc? I've never heard of that, probably because I'm kind of new to running. So I'm curious if I should pick some up for myself if they have any benefits! I just run in capri-like sweatpants that I've had for ages. So I'm just curious!
