There are so many of us battling injuries here and it gets depressing if you let it, but just focus on the goal and keep at it. We're all crossing that finish line!!!
Absolutely!

Question for those of you somewhat familiar with the WDW marathon or willing to speculate:

We have an ADR in MK on the morning of the marathon for 8:35. Will we get to see some of the runners? It looks like the beginning is the same as the Princess, so ~mile 6 for the MK. What time would we need to get there to see them?
Yep! I've driven to MK on marathon morning a couple times aiming for rope drop at 9am and there plenty of folks going un and coming out of the park. Allow extra time to get there - roads are partially closed which slows things down.

I'm so excited. I had hoped to run the Blues 1/2 marathon on Jackson,MS but when I started to register it was sold out. Didn't expect that. I called and e- mailed to be included on a possible cancellation list. Today I received the response a place has opened up. Yea! So in 2 weeks I'll be running my 1st 1/2. Kinda a little scared too I must confess. I did 12 miles today so I'm sure I can finish. It won't be a great time compared with the paces I've seen here but I'll get my first medal. I just had to share with everyone who has been such an inspiration
Super cool - good luck!

I finally got back on the wagon after my 3 week battle with the sinus infection from hell. I was able to run a 7 miler last weekend with no problems...other than being slow as molasses. I'm a couple of miles behind on my schedule that was planned for Tink half, but my trainer seems to think I'll be fine. I'm not as confident as she is, so I bought a bib off of someone that needed to sell and my BF is gonna run/walk it with me...I may need him to drag me the last few miles :rotfl2: We planned to run PHM together, but never planned for Tink because he's running a full the weekend before...I told him Tink would be a good way to work the residual soreness out from his full ;)
Great idea, lol! Glad to hear you're feeling better :)

We'll be walking over from BLT-- will they close the walkway where you cross the road to the backstage area? I'm hoping we can pass between runners. Otherwise would we take the resort monorail all the way around? I was pretty sure there were some folks on here with family planning to stay at CR/BLT who wanted to get over to main st to cheer.

Good question - I'd think they'd allow you to cross between groups of runners, but don't know for sure. You might try asking on the WDW marathon thread; lots of repeat marathoners there who might know for sure!

Whew! Just finished catching up! Count me as another slacker. Have managed 1 run per week over the last 3 weeks; none of them were over 4 miles. So I am going to go for 5 this weekend and basically add 1 mile per week. My half PR is from one that I did on a whim and had only gotten up to 10, so I know this will be fine. Definitely no time goal, but there is a photo op goal! Have a junky cold, so hoping the five will happen and I won't fall even farther behind. But I have enough experience to not be worried. There will be enough walk breaks and photo stops to make this totally doable! Cripey and longhorns, you'll handle Tink, no prob.

How weird is it that I want to go and use my foam roller. . .right now? I have a love-hate relationship with that thing. I know it hurts a little to use it, but it's better than ITBS pain later. Off I go. . .

Thanks for the encouragement Amy! I love hearing how people are able to PR when they don't over train- I tend to over train- or at least mentally over train :rotfl2:, and trying REALLY hard not to this time. Who knows? PR at Tink might be possible! Hope your cold goes away soon!

Seriously. I have been neglecting mine and I am also thinking of spending some time rolling today. My leg has been GREAT lately, but I want to KEEP IT THAT WAY! :thumbsup2 Roll, mama, roll!

My problem so far with long races hasn't been with over or under training. Both with ToT and St. Jude Half I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be on race day. I also didn't start off too fast. My problem seems to be over stimulation. The excitement during the race wears me out. I've actually been about 2 minutes per mile slower during races than my long training runs, which I intentionally run slow anyway. Most people report being faster in races but not this Princess! I have yet to do a race where I ran anywhere close to my potential. Still trying to figure out how to control it.

This is my first half so when I decided to do this as a mid life crisis(at 45 this has to be crazy to start running!) i hired a running coach. Been reading about the training long runs and how far people are going and wondering if the 10 mile long run would be long enough so to speak. Talked at length with my running coach and he said he would take me up to 10 for long runs and keep my mid week maintenance runs at 4-5. He has trained many folks for marathons and halfs and had great success with this method. Didn't want to over train me and said adrenaline would keep me going the last three. I do have a practice half on 27 Jan so that will give me a good idea of how my time will be and a month after that to make small improvements.

This is exactly how my training works. 3 runs per week, short runs start out at 3 and 4 for a few weeks then transition to 4 and 5 and long runs increase 1 mile every other week up to 10 miles max for a 16 week plan. I've never had trouble getting through those last 3 when I've stuck to the training.

edited...there's a taper built in there too at the end of my plans.

Anyone watch HGTV? Today for my 30 minute run I ran to the HGTV Dream House that was just built on Kiawah Ialand. My water break was a visit to the house and a lot of peering through windows. Fun!

Shut up! Didn't know the 2013 house was on Kiawah Island! That's the first location they've ever had where I would actually like to own property. I will be entering daily!

I have been absent from this thread for a while, so I had a lot of catching up to do! I've been feeling discouraged about my own training (had a hard time with a 6miler!) due to fatigue & muscle soreness, as well as a lot of "Decking the Halls" (we had almost 40 people here for Christmas dinner, so I spent a lot of time on my feet in preparation!). I have been lucky enough (so far) to avoid illness & injury, so I hope that all of you who have been having those issues keep at it! I did a lot of work with Team In Training in the past, & had to do a lot of cross training, due to injuries, but always made it through. I know you will, too!! Coming back to this site has been very inspiring, & given me much encouragement, so I thank you all for being here. My dread level has gone down a bit today! I am looking forward to meeting as many of you ladies as possible!!

I have a question for those with experience out there. I've been using the Galloway program to train for the PHM. I've never run before 3 months ago my longest run to date has been 12 miles last Wednesday. Needless to say @ 57 I'm not fast but can maintain a 15 min pace. At this point I'm no longer worried about getting swept. I'm running a 1/2 marathon a week from Sat. When I saw I was supposed to run 14 that training weekend it seemed a great idea. They aren't as strict with pace as Disney so no fear of getting swept. Here's my problem. I must have miscounted the weeks on 13.1 program. When I looked ahead on my scheduled runs I will finish 3 weeks ahead of the PHM. How do I deal with that? Any suggestions are appreciated. I am definitely a newbie. :)

You could use those 3 weeks as a long taper. My running coach says a 3 week taper is fine. He would suggest and has suggested 10, 8, 6 as the final 3 long runs, keeping with whatever you are used to for short runs during the week. I've only been at this consistently for a little over a year but this comes from my coach who has 26 years experience.

Look what I found folded up in a winter running shirt! The BondiBand this group did for last year. I ran with it today (and my bright pink light up jacket my mom got me for xmas). Feelin' it!

Thanks. I didn't know how much distance to cut off with a taper.

Hi everyone! Just joining this thread. This will be my first PHM but I've run the 5k twice and can't wait! It will be my 3rd HM (ran the TOT 10miler, then the Wine & Dine and will be running the WDW HM in 2 weeks). I felt so good after running the Wine & Dine that I decided to see if I could do the training for the Full instead of the half. So I ran 16 miles the Monday before Thanksgiving. And got injured! I hurt my knee...boo! I had never had knee problems before so I took a week off, tried again and it still hurt. Waited another week and it was a no go so I made a drs. appt. She referred me to a sports medicine doc who said it was ITBS (which I don't completely agree with. I think its that AND runner's knee since I have all sorts of pain around the front of my knee while walking up and down stairs and bending down). I took 2 full weeks off then ran a 5k. I felt fine, no pain so I tried running longer. I get a little pain around 4 miles. I started PT yesterday and she gave me some stretches to do for both runner's knee and ITBS. She said that she would suggest no running, but knows I won't listen since I have a half in two weeks :rotfl2:

I ran 6 miles last Sunday and am going to try for 9 this Sunday. I know that I am doing everything wrong (not resting, upping too many miles too quickly) but I still hope everything goes well!

Does anyone have the link to the 5k medallion for this year? I thought I had it bookmarked, but I can't find it.
