Today I accomplished my longest run EVER. Even when preparing for the ToT 10miler, I did not take my miles up this high. (almost..but not quite) I got 7.75 miles in. I am pretty proud of my pace - 10:15/mile. I didn't stop to walk once.
Last night I was so nervous about it. I am using a training program and what was scheduled for today was going to mean somewhere between 7 and 8 miles of running. It started to snow hard last night. I was sure I would wake to find a ton of snow. Add in that my youngest came down with strep throat and I am just waiting to catch it from her....and I was just so apprehensive.
I woke to find NO snow

It was a rainy mist though..so I anticipated getting at least a bit wet.
I ate some oatmeal, did my stretching and donned my favorite jacket and some gloves and out I went.
Despite the rain during the first 30 minutes or so, it was a beautiful run. At one point I was running fairly close to the tree line. I noticed that something odd was moving next to me. Just as I looked over a head popped up and a very shocked deer looked up at me in much the same way I looked at her. As if to say "oh my, I didn't notice you there". We had to have been only a few feet from each other. There was a second deer just a bit further down the road, but she jumped into the bushes more and all I saw was her rear as I ran past. The first deer just went back to eating.
Often times I see a heard of elk when I am out running, but not today. I actually prefer the deer as they are much smaller and far less scary. I have never come as close to the elk as I did the deer today. The closest was when they were on the move and were on a path to intersect me. That had me a bit nervous cause I wasn't sure what they would do if they were running as they crossed my path.
Now with this run behind me, I see that in the coming weeks I will be running a bit more with the start of each training week. Next week should take me up over 8 miles

This program ends with 126 minutes of running... 7 weeks from now. I wonder if that will give me enough time to tapper?

maybe I will have to cut it short a bit. Given that I don't plan to run the entire 13.1 miles, maybe taking my mileage up to 10 or 11 miles would be ok. I know only going to a hair past 7 was fine for the 10 miler....
Hope that all of you enjoy your last runs of 2012! Happy Holidays!!!!
