Hi all. If anyone has an extra Race Retreat ticket they are not using, please let me know. You can PM me if you want. Thanks, Cindy. :)

Just had to share that so far so good with the new size of shoes. Two runs and they felt fine. I can see if my feet were to swell they would be perfect.

I also seem to be doing better taking some iron. (I was severely anemic again).
Glad to hear things are going well! And THANK you for reminding me that some iron would be a good idea. I rarely eat meat anymore and I'm not sure milk and spinach is cutting it; I'm getting that anemic feeling too, so it's time.

It seems like everyone thinks that race retreat is too expensive, but it's sold out by now, so it can't be that bad??? What do you think?? Have I wasted the money, or was it a good decision???

I thought it was a fair price, but when I signed up for the 1/2 last month, the retreat was already sold out. It's my first 1/2 @ the age of 50, and I hope I can do it.

I got the race retreat. I didn't think it was too expensive and I would have gotten the Platinum Chear Squad for my parents but it sold out before they decided to go. My only concern is that I'll be too slow to make it back for breakfast and flip flops. I WANT that mimosa and my flip flops!

I got the race retreat too. I think that once we get there and use/see/eat/drink what they've got we'll be glad we did! :thumbsup2 This is my first half so I haven't done the race retreat before so I'm not positive but I think we'll enjoy it! I signed up right before my friend did and I'm sad that it was sold out when she registered so now we'll be separated. Oh well, I think we'll both have so much fun that it won't be a big deal.

I did race retreat and also got my DH and 3 DSs the platinum chEAR squad. I'm kind of in the camp of spending money to make things easier/better when we can. My DH is going to have to manage 3 little boys on his own for hours early in the morning so anything that makes it better is worthwhile and then I want to be able to join them afterwards. Also, since I will be running alone, I wanted the benefit of having somewhere to go and stuff do to. I tend to be frugal on some things and then spend on things like this.

I also have the race retreat and DH and son have the platinum ChEAR Squad too. I just want somewhere comfortable for them and I wanted a nice experience for all of us. As far as the $$$ I'm not expecting too much but I do hope overall it will be worth it.

If the weather is sub 45 degrees, the race retreat will be worth it's weight in GOLD, IMO.

If it's over that, eh, I wouldn't have seen the full value (being a slower runner, I wouldn't have as much post race time in the tent)

I didn't get the package myself, but I think most people that did buy it last year LOVED it.

Glad to help to remind you. :goodvibes

Just did my weekend 3 mile run...on the beach we are visiting for Christmas. Nice change of scenery!!!

In defense of not having the retreat...I really enjoy the atmosphere in the pre race area myself. It's fun to watch other runners, see their outfits, listen to the dj, and jump around when the dj does the warm up line dancing. I totally understand wanting it though for the warmth of being in a tent, and (heaven forbid) if its raining, then I'll wish I had it I'm sure! But...just wanted to say for those that didn't get it, it's still a good time out there! As far as post race...I normally can't eat for at least 30-45 minutes after a long run like that anyway...my stomach always feels uneasy. I wouldn't personally be able to stomach a mimosa for a while...but after some stretching and a shower, I'm READY!!!! :)

Just completed my first long walk. I did 6.23 miles today. Not thrilled with my time, but then again this was the first I had walked in 10 days due to being ill and the weather just crappy. I am also down 20 pounds. Hope to keep them off over the holidays!!!

Is anyone else getting emails from runDisney saying enjoy your marathon? For some reason they're convinced I signed up for the full marathon coming up.....

I've been getting them for a couple of months. The first one I got freaked me out. I thought I registered wrong and registered for the marathon. I was terrified, this girl can pull off a half but full? No way. But I heard others had this issue and double checked my registration, and I'm only registered for the PHM. I got one a few days ago wishing me luck for my WDW full marathon lol.

Haha thank you for telling me this!!! I'm glad I'm not alone! I got that exact email. I was like uh nope....

This, exactly, is why I bought RR. And after the past two sub-40-degree mornings at WDW, I am soooooo glad I did. I have a host of cold-exacerbated issues that will make a warm place to wait critical to my enjoyment, if not my completion, of the race. I wore running shoes this morning and truly couldn't feel my toes for several hours.

Good job! I think it is so hard to stay on track right now. Holidays, weather... they all make it hard to get those miles in. :goodvibes

The last 5k race I ran was like that for me... I couldn't feel my toes for part of the race because it was sub 40 degrees out! Luckily, I warmed up quickly...but what an odd feeling it was.

Today I accomplished my longest run EVER. Even when preparing for the ToT 10miler, I did not take my miles up this high. (almost..but not quite) I got 7.75 miles in. I am pretty proud of my pace - 10:15/mile. I didn't stop to walk once.

Last night I was so nervous about it. I am using a training program and what was scheduled for today was going to mean somewhere between 7 and 8 miles of running. It started to snow hard last night. I was sure I would wake to find a ton of snow. Add in that my youngest came down with strep throat and I am just waiting to catch it from her....and I was just so apprehensive.

I woke to find NO snow :cool1: It was a rainy mist though..so I anticipated getting at least a bit wet.

I ate some oatmeal, did my stretching and donned my favorite jacket and some gloves and out I went.

Despite the rain during the first 30 minutes or so, it was a beautiful run. At one point I was running fairly close to the tree line. I noticed that something odd was moving next to me. Just as I looked over a head popped up and a very shocked deer looked up at me in much the same way I looked at her. As if to say "oh my, I didn't notice you there". We had to have been only a few feet from each other. There was a second deer just a bit further down the road, but she jumped into the bushes more and all I saw was her rear as I ran past. The first deer just went back to eating. :rotfl:

Often times I see a heard of elk when I am out running, but not today. I actually prefer the deer as they are much smaller and far less scary. I have never come as close to the elk as I did the deer today. The closest was when they were on the move and were on a path to intersect me. That had me a bit nervous cause I wasn't sure what they would do if they were running as they crossed my path.

Now with this run behind me, I see that in the coming weeks I will be running a bit more with the start of each training week. Next week should take me up over 8 miles :faint: This program ends with 126 minutes of running... 7 weeks from now. I wonder if that will give me enough time to tapper? :scratchin maybe I will have to cut it short a bit. Given that I don't plan to run the entire 13.1 miles, maybe taking my mileage up to 10 or 11 miles would be ok. I know only going to a hair past 7 was fine for the 10 miler....

Hope that all of you enjoy your last runs of 2012! Happy Holidays!!!!
