Thanks for the advice! I ran a little over 2 miles (alternate between walking & jogging) for my first time back. I was also sore for 3 days!! :rotfl:

I looked up the Jeff Galloway training program, I think I will do it.. It seems all over the place to me but apparently it works!

My 2013 trip is going to be so much fun! My mom, sister, and a bunch of my girl friends will be going to run with me. No kids or husbands :scared1:

:cheer2: Awesome! Keep it up! :cheer2:

Add a little bit more run between walk breaks each time you go out and it will keep getting easier. Don't get discouraged if you have days when the run feels more hard than others. I've been running for 20+ years and there are days when I am low on energy and the run is a struggle. The most important thing is to get out and move.

A few random questions I was thinking about the other day:

1. When does registration usually open?

2. When and how do you get your Goofy bling? I assume you get your Donald and Mickey medals as you finish each individual race, but how do they know who gets a Mickey and who gets a Mickey and a Goofy?

3. The Dopey - 5K + half + full. Is that an official event/medal? Or just something people made up? Also, I understand the characters/theme for the 5K changes every year. When would the 2013 be announced?

hi everyone!

i'm in for the full in 2013! :cool1:

i was supposed to run the full this year but the day after i signed up for it i found out i was pregnant. i guess tinydancer and i are similar with that. the baby is 6 weeks old now and i am back to moving more! i lost alot of fitness but will slowly get back to it. i did a run/walk of 3 miles today and it was ugly. but hey, it's only been 6 weeks since i had a kid and i still am about 25 lbs from my goal weight. so i'll take it. movement is movement.

i hope the marathon weekend is 10-13th of january.

looking forward to e-training with you all! :)

I'm in for the Donald and ready to scream team for my friend dumbo buddy and all you other brave souls doing the full! :thumbsup2

Congratulations on the baby! It sounds like you are on the right track fitness wise.

Does anyone have a guess when the weekend will be next year? Typically it seems they do it the weekend after NYE...while the Xmas decorations are still up. I really want to know when it will be!

Congratulations! Sounds like a few of you have been having babies!

My son was born in October 2010. I ran the Princess Half in 2011, so it is doable! I am training for the Princess Half 2012 now.

I am seriously considering the Goofy Challenge in 2013. If so, that would be my first Marathon and my fifth Half?!? In March, I will celebrate five years since I started running, so I think 2013 would be a GREAT time to step up my game. Any suggestions?

I have seen some folks post that it will be Jan. 10-13.

I'm a long time lurker on DIS boards, but after discovering this thread, I have to post!

I really want to do at least a half in 2013. I only started running this past summer, and was and still am very very very slow.

I recently found out I have PCOS and am insulin resistant because of it. I was put on meds last month, and I'm hoping that I can finally see some of the healthy benefits of the running, and maybe increase my speed! :cheer2:

I really want to do a princess at some point, but I'm not sure how my husband will feel about that!

You should have no problem getting to a half this year with a good training plan. If you have been running for six months you can consider a half. Just worry about the distance, a galloway "To Finish" plan would be a good choice.

As for Princess, I ran it with DW last year, it was fun.

I'm setting fitness goals for 2012 and goal setting for this year. Upon thinking about the Disney marathon, I'm going to set a goal for myself to run the 2013 1/2 marathon at WDW.

first, I want to thank all of you who have posted encouraging pp and information about training. I have been both a T&F athlete and coach but I was a sprinter and coached the jumps. Distance running is a little bit of a grey area for me! However, it has been a long time goal of mine to run a marathon. What better place to do that than WDW? :thumbsup2

This thread has really gotten me excited about pounding the pavement again, I purchased some new kicks last spring and I bet they have about 3 miles on them. :scared1:Tomorrow morning , I'll roll out of bed and get these bones a rolling again. Hope to swap running stories and get to know you all through this thread.

Regards,
~Mandy~

well i'm def in for SOMETHING next year whether it's the marathon, goofy, or princess. it's been way too long for a rundisney event for me. i guess i was being a bit sulky about it this am, because my boyfriend promised we can go next year no matter what :lmao:

i really want to do the full marathon since i've never done a full at disney...but i'm already registered (and paid!) for the new york marathon in early nov. my track record with marathon recovery is not that great - i've only run two full marathons, and it's taken me about a month to bounce back fully. so that's why i'm thinking princess would be my best bet

The 20th anniv of the Full Marathon is 2013 , the date is Jan 13, 2013...thinking special Mickey medal.... as this weekend was the 15th anniv of the Donald, and special Donald medal was handed out!

I believe you are right on the dates for the Marathon. I'll be going in February for the Princess... that is what my group decided on.. I wanted to do the full but I guess I'll start with the half!

Congrats to you! Since you've been running half marathons, you already have a good fitness base. My suggestions: keep it up by running 4-5 days per week; register for a half marathon in late summer/early fall to make sure you are motivated to continue running throughout the summer; and then ramp up your marathon training in September.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Hal Higdon's free training plans are my favorite. Go to http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/Mar00index.htm and see the novice plans on the left of the page. Lots of people also like the Jeff Galloway plan of running and walking. You can combine both plans.

Hi everyone!! Count me in for next January, I'll be going for my 1st Goofy!

Reg usually is in March sometime. As for the Goofy stuff~ your bib will be slightly different indicating that you are doing the challege, so when you finish the marathon, you get both the Mickey and Goofy medal. With Dopey, it's not an "official" event, so no extra Dopey medal. The 5k theme usually gets announced at a later date. I think this year's wasn't until the end of the summer, beginning of fall.

WOW, I will be going for my first full! Dont think I could tackle the Goofy, I did have 2 friends who did just that though this past weekend!!!

BIG BIG BIG :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: to EVERYONE who completed a race at WDW 2012!!! Disney World is where I started my marathon journey and it's truly a special experience. Props to everyone who got through it!

With that said, I did defer my Goofy 2012 to 2013...so I guess I'll be there with ears on on January 10th! I might be working in Florida by that time, so hopefully it'll be much easier to get there. Can't wait!

Running Goofy next year. Just going to do it once, to collect the medal.

After that, I am not sure I will do marathon weekend anymore. We just got back from the half, and I was really not thrilled with it. It was just too crowded. I am a mid-pack runner and just felt like all I did for 13 miles was weave in and out of people. It was very difficult to keep up a comfortable pace. I also felt that the parks were super crowded this year, compared to last year when I ran the full.
I think we will be sticking with W&D after this.

It's certainly doable, and it's also one of the three schools of thought on how to run Goofy. School #1 says you only have one pair of fresh legs, so use them on Saturday and then survive on Sunday. A friend who did this last year ran a 1:58 for the half and a 5:25 for the full, but I'm sure others manage a more reasonable split. School #2 says do your best to keep your legs fresh on Saturday by not pushing hard and then giving your hard effort on Sunday. School #3, the one I personally believe in, says that races at Disney are about the experience and not the PR so you should take it easy, have fun, stop at lots of characters for pictures, and enjoy both days as much as you can. I run both the half and the full about 1 min/mile slower than my usual marathon race pace, which makes them seem more like a Saturday long run than an actual race, and keeps me from feeling like I'm in survival mode.

As always, YMMV. :)

Thanks for the info. As of right now, I think I am going to stick with school 1. From what I can ascertain, the Disney course is flatter than the few 1/2 marathon courses I have already ran, so the temptation to go for a PR may too great. I figure there is nothing in the half that I won't see in the full, so will be going really slow and taking in the experience on Sunday. In fact, I plan on completely cutting out beer 6 months before Goofy...and plan to be in Epcot late enough to grab a brew in the final mile.
