Charles you don't think 2013 will be 3 - 6th?

It is most always the weekend prior to the Martin Luther King Weekend. That would make it weekend of january 10-13...

Since I have been coming I think Disney has run the marathon once on the 6th. It was a mess in the parks with the New Year's partiers hanging on until the weekend before heading home. It I recall the last time it was on the 6th, it was also a single day race.

Don't know how I've missed this thread previously but glad I found it today! I started running a year ago and I'm now doing about 25-30 miles per week. I've done a few local 5k's and will be doing my first 1/2 marathon this March (Albany Marathon-formerly Snickers Marathon). It's a BQ, but like I said, I'm only doing the 1/2. I was thinking of skipping the 1/2 and going straight for the full, but due to a setback in training and my competitive nature possibly getting the best of me, I opted to do the 1/2 in March and make the 2013 Disney Marathon weekend my first full!

Something about running through all 4 parks will push me even more (as if I needed any additional motivation). I'm currently doing the half right around a 2 hour pace. I run 12 miles every Saturday. My goal by March is sub 2 hour and next year's full in under 4.

I've never done a race at Disney so this is a new experience for me to look forward to.

I think I am going to do the Princess Half for '13!!

I had my first post partum work out today.. I did a little over 2 miles in 28 minutes. I've got a long way to go, and a long time to get there. :thumbsup2

For what it's worth, my registration for 2013 says Goofy starts on Saturday January 12th.

I think there are a couple W&D deferrals that say the the end of September 2012.

Though I will admit that my comment was a little tongue in cheek

Assuming that 12/21/12 will come and go...I should/will have abt 8 Hallf's completed, and will be able to train for a full....this would be a goal of completing a FULL...even IF I could get into Chicago this Oct....I would want to be in Disney for this accomplishment, Yes I drank the kool aid a long time ago!

My baby is now 11 weeks old so I'm going to start (slowly) running again.

I would love to do a half marathon this spring, just so I can see what I'm in for! :scared1:

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! Take your time building up the mileage and you'll be ready for the marathon by next year. I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but I assume you are familiar with the Galloway method of training. My personal favorite training plan is by Hal Higdon. (Free on his site.)

I would recommend working up to a half marathon in early fall and then working up to the full marathon in 2013. For now, I would work on running three miles 2-3 times during the week and working up to a longer run of 5-6 miles on the weekend. That would be your base training phase. Then start training for the fall 1/2 marathon in late spring/early summer. Then you are ready to start training for the full marathon. (This is all just my opinion obviously.)

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm a big planner, so trust me, I'm already planning for 2013.

Me too! There is nothing I love talking about more than running. :)

Great to know! I'm planning to do the Goofy and I'd assumed it would be the first weekend in Jan like many other people here.

I'm a long time lurker on DIS boards, but after discovering this thread, I have to post!

I really want to do at least a half in 2013. I only started running this past summer, and was and still am very very very slow.

I recently found out I have PCOS and am insulin resistant because of it. I was put on meds last month, and I'm hoping that I can finally see some of the healthy benefits of the running, and maybe increase my speed! :cheer2:

I really want to do a princess at some point, but I'm not sure how my husband will feel about that!

Well I think I will go for running the full in 2013!

I've done the disneyworld half in 2010 and 2011, as well as the two wine and dine runs and I think I'm ready for the full. I'll be turning 50 in 2013 and this will be my goal.

So far the longest run I've ever done was about 15 miles so I have some work to do.

Hope to see you all there!

just came in from a 3 miler in a balmy 24 here in Chicago....decided I will register for DL Half at the Princess.....and register for the FULL in 2013 at DL Half...I am in....
Disney motivated me to begin running in 2010 and I have completed 5 Half's, numerous other 5K's and 5 milers etc....HAVE to do my first FULL in WDW!

Thanks for the advice! I ran a little over 2 miles (alternate between walking & jogging) for my first time back. I was also sore for 3 days!! :rotfl:

I looked up the Jeff Galloway training program, I think I will do it.. It seems all over the place to me but apparently it works!

My 2013 trip is going to be so much fun! My mom, sister, and a bunch of my girl friends will be going to run with me. No kids or husbands :scared1:

Well my dad and I are in for the full. I did the W&D last fall and caught the disney running bug.

Well, if they still do the relay next year and if I can find a partner, I will be there for the half on Saturday and the relay on Sunday 2013.
Diane

I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the full in 2013, as well as the princess maybe. I haven't quite locked in those races yet, but I've started thinking about them. I will definitely be doing the Disneyland Half in 2013 because I want to get my Coast to Coast medal again since I won't be able to this year.

Doing Goofy next year. I just got into running seriously two years ago, and have only run two half marathons under my belt, but made a commitment to complete a full this fall.

What I would like to do for Goofy is run hard, try for PB on Sat, then a slow jog/walk on Sunday. Has anyone tried this approach? Is it reasonable/doable? Or does going hard on Sat make for a very miserable Sunday?

It's certainly doable, and it's also one of the three schools of thought on how to run Goofy. School #1 says you only have one pair of fresh legs, so use them on Saturday and then survive on Sunday. A friend who did this last year ran a 1:58 for the half and a 5:25 for the full, but I'm sure others manage a more reasonable split. School #2 says do your best to keep your legs fresh on Saturday by not pushing hard and then giving your hard effort on Sunday. School #3, the one I personally believe in, says that races at Disney are about the experience and not the PR so you should take it easy, have fun, stop at lots of characters for pictures, and enjoy both days as much as you can. I run both the half and the full about 1 min/mile slower than my usual marathon race pace, which makes them seem more like a Saturday long run than an actual race, and keeps me from feeling like I'm in survival mode.

As always, YMMV. :)
