Apologies if this has already been asked but do Disney photographers take your photos with the characters on the course using the standard Disney Photopass card or do you have to buy really expensive official race photos?!

Thanks

The photographers on course (including inside the Magic Kingdom) are NOT the Photopass photographers, they are race photographers, so the photos are available for purchase separately from them (not on your Photopass card). The CMs are still very nice about being willing to take photos with your own camera, though.

I'm really surprised that they don't just use photopass photogs. It would be so much easier. I need to find a smaller camera to run with. I always take my big DSLR to the parks bit that's notgonna make it for a run.

Hi everyone! I had been very busy this week.
I need some help. Yesterday in my long run my shins started hurting like crazy but i finished no matter what. I had read about shins splints, im scare very scare that I have that and i wont be able to run again. I wont see my running coach until tuesday and i dont know what to do. should i take monday off and see how it goes on tuesday?? please help.

in other information im getting much better. now im running 30 seconds and walking 45 seconds. :rotfl:

Also i thinking $99 is a lot of money for just some hours, but who knows!

I did my first 5k!! Halloween 5k in 43 minutes, despite feeling like I could never get a run going thanks to SLOW people in front of me constantly. Anyway, other than that, it was great! It was an awesome feeling when we did the uturn and I could see how many people I was actually in front of. Solid middle of the pack seemed impossible two months ago. Time to start Princess training on Tuesday :)

The photogs are from bright room. From their website, it looks like they specialize in race photos. They had cameras that appeared to be more geared to action photos than Disney photographers would have. I cannot wait to see my pics from the 5k!

My dad was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. I know the Princess 1/2 benfits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I'd love to raise some $ as part of my efforts to race, but don't want to go all out for the Team In Training. I'll call the organization on Monday, but just thought maybe someone here may know something.
My family has had a rough time lately. DH's best friend died last week. He'd been sick for a long time, we knew it was coming, but it still made it no easier to go through. My grandpa has been in the hospital for the last 3 weeks, slowly fading day by day. And then the lymphoma diagnosis for my dad. I honestly was reconsidering the Princess 1/2, as it is a strain on our budget and I felt a little guilty planning for all the fun of Disney. But then I realized the charity it benefitted and it just seems like I have been drawn to it for a reason. So, onward with training and planning.

Just wanted to offer you some virtual hugs. You're going through a rough time. No question about it.

I know nothing about fundraising for the L&L Society, but I'm certain that any amount you raise will mean a lot to your father. Blessings and healing to your entire family.

It sounds like it could develop into shin splints if you are not careful. I would slow down and relax you legs if you feel them hurting again. Also, I have been freezing water in a dixie cup, peeling back part of the wrapper, and rubbing the ice up and down the tender shin for 5 minutes. You can do that every night, not just after runs. If it still hurts on Monday, I would def. not push it. Good luck!

Agree - there was not a single character that didn't have a CM there ready to take pictures with people's cameras; that's how I got all of mine.

Speaking of pics - for the new people, after you run through the castle, there is a phot op where the prof. phot. will take your pic in front of the castle - it looks like you are the only one there. This one you will have to pay for, as it is only the prof. there. Be on the lookout - I ran right by the line, and then when I realized what it was, was trying to swim back upstream like a salmon to get back to the line. Needless to say, there were a couple of very UN Princess-like comments made at me!

Sounds like I may be the only one but I think I might do the race retreat.... I'm running with my sister in law and I'm thinking this could be her Xmas present from me. I probably will only run the princess once, so why not go all out! Does anyone know if this was offered last year?

I was middle of the pack also. It was awesome to see all the people that I was in front of. I did lose a little time because I stopped for a few pics. I am going to start the Jeff Galloway training plan on Tuesday.

Hey guys! I'm thinking about entering but I wanted to know if anyone can tell me for sure if any of the entry fee goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society versus just being an awareness run. No one I've talked to seems to be sure, and the site seems to suggest it's only an awareness run.

Thanks!

In my mind, I have already been up for 8 hours by the time I am able to get a cocktail (when the beer wagons open in Epcot), plus it's 5 'oclock somewhere.

That said, $99 is a bit steep. I will likely save it (geez, half of it) for drinking around the World Sunday afternoon!

LoL. When I was in the Bahamas I am sure I started drinking around lunch time, but for some reason I am just thinking 8 or 9 in the morning just wouldn't set well with my stomach.

Today is the last day to register with the "discount"-- right?? I think today may be the day to do it!

Question on submitting times from other races-- do you have to submit a time to get anything higher than the last corral? From a friend who ran it last year, I thought you could submit an "unverified" time as fast as 2:45-- is that correct? Since I haven't gone through the registration page yet, I don't know what it is going to ask for, and what those things mean. I'd love some advice from those who have already registered!

That is correct. Last year I submitted a estimated time of 2:56 (unverified) and I ended up in corral D (third from the last) but of course that all depends on what every else is submitting/ estimating.

Apologies if this has already been asked but do Disney photographers take your photos with the characters on the course using the standard Disney Photopass card or do you have to buy really expensive official race photos?!

Most of the characters just had cms to take pics with your own camera; I don't remember seeing any professional photographers with the characters, although I didn't stop for any so I may be mistaking.

LoL It's funny because I accidentally got stuck in the line coming out of the castle. After I figured it out I figured what the heck I was already there. :confused3 Sadly my pic didn't turn as good as most of the others I have seen so I am planning on skipping it this year and just hoping to get a good one coming down the ramp.

Does anyone know if this was offered last year?

Nope wasn't offered last year.

I am not sure about the registration itself but I know when you are registering there is an option to add a donation to L&L.

I had the same issue - shin splints developing as I hit higher and higher mileage. Few bits of advice - don't be afraid to taper back and give yourself 2-3 days off. Also, stretch stretch stretch - good one is to squat as far down as you can while remaining flat footed then shift your weight back/forth and side/side to stretch. Both before and after you run Finally, Ktape (and I've heard compression tights) have really helped me. I put it on about 12 hrs before I ran to help it stick. Good luck!

Congrats! I did this 5K last year to decide whether I wanted to start aiming for these kinds of races. And that was a resounding yes! after all the fun I had. I can't wait for Princess :goodvibes

Hi, I am flying in from Canada.
1) When are most of you arriving? Friday or Saturday? Is Saturday cutting it too close?
2) How long are you staying? If you arrive Friday, are you doing any of the parks on Saturday. Not sure if I should save my legs?
3) Are you planning on going to a park for the rest of the day after the race or do you need to check out of your hotel?

Not sure about all the details or if I should stay Sunday night as well and treat myself to a park day on Monday.

Excited but so nervous about all the little details!!!

Haha. I've never run before, much less a half marathon, so you're not the only nervous one!

As far as I can tell, you should be OK to arrive on Sat as long as you get there early-ish. You need to pick up your stuff and drop off your waiver at the Expo, and Sat is the last day, so... If you feel comfortable that the arrival time will be well within the pick-up window (I'd add in a couple hours for delays and getting settled), I'd go for it.

For Sunday, I don't know if I'll make it to the park. It's going to be my first ever marathon so I don't know what kind of condition I'll be in! But if you know you can still keep going the rest of the day, I say: DO IT!

If you think you can get in a bunch of park time on Sun and need to save money, maybe leave on Monday. If you're not sure or can afford the splurge, stay to play on Monday too! I mean, why not? You're already in Disney! :wizard: Personally, my husband and I will likely be staying at LEAST Fri-Mon and including a mini-vacation in our time. We might come a day early or stay late, but we'd never leave without visiting at least 2 parks!

When I read this first I thought you said you were not sure if you needed to SHAVE your legs :rotfl:. Obviously I'm tired and need to go to bed instead of reading on here! Anyways, one thing you might want to consider when flying in from Canada is the weather in February - leaving it to Saturday can be cutting it close if we have a storm day.

Our plan is to take it easy Friday and Saturday, and start with the parks after the race - legs willing.

Where in Canada are you flying from? We're coming from Newfoundland, but going for a week - the 24th to the 3rd. Since this running madness  started as an excuse for another girls trip to visit the mouse, we want to make the most of it.

HAHAHAHAH!!!! LMAO! I promise I will shave my legs. I am coming from Cambridge Ontario. I definitely think I will get their Friday. Wasn't thinking about snow delays, can't wait to be training in the snow.

So excited!!!!!!
