How funny. I much prefer to run alone. I can't get into my zone with distractions. For me, the key is music - loud and fast. Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Godsmack, Disturbed, etc.

yep this is me in a nutshell too!

wow, 3 posts in a row, am I annoying or what!!

Going out for a run right now. It's been........16 days since I've ran! Shin splints suck. I babied them big time so here's hoping!!!!

Yay, just made my post race celebration lunch res at Le Cellier! Post recovery protein and carbs.....steak and beer! Our res is for 2:15, so let me or Tinkeramy know if you are going to be there around that time. I think this year I am going to be a total dweeb and wear the "I did it" tshirt to lunch and the parks with my medal! ;-)

Dear Disney....can you PLEASE offer an AP hotel only discount for that timeframe like free dining is offered. Although if I can get a family rate at Swan, jumping on that one again, really liked that place! I don't think I made my room res til like November last year, so I have time.

Now, to just start training......I need to get some new shoes this weekend.

Good luck! I ran today for the first time in 2 weeks too.

My dh and I will be at Le Cellier at 1:30 after the race. I only made 2 ADR's, we don't like to be tied down by times very much.

I'm in...will be my first half. I've been running for 1 1/2 years, done many 5Ks and a few 10Ks. Love all things Disney, the Everest Challenge was my first 5K. So signing up for this is forcing me to train better through the winter months when I usually slack off. I'm not fast, but I do try to beat my PR.
I have a mental block with the dreadmill that I will have to overcome to train for this. So any suggestions to love the treadmill more will be greatly welcomed. LOL.
Love reading all the posts, very motivational. Can't wait to do this!

I hear you on the dreadmill, morgtroy! I am just going to stay outside as long as I can. Someone (here?) suggested watching whole seasons of something exciting like 24 while doing long runs. If we have a lot of snow and ice this winter and I can't get outside, that's what I'm going to do. Otherwise, I've got my gear to get out in the cold. I've run in 20F weather and it has been fine with just a wind-resistant jacket.

Good news for me--I just talked a coworker into joining me for the race! We have worked together for a couple of years but I don't get to do much socially because of my son's disabilities, so we haven't really hung out outside of work. But I knew she was a Disneyphile (former CM at DL), and just learned that she's done marathons in the past. We are very similar in terms of pace too, so I'm super psyched to have a buddy for the race. We're undertaking a big work project together over the next few years, so it's even good bonding.

Way psyched!

And yesterday I did a hilly 5K around the neighborhood. Stayed under 80% HR except during a 400m pickup right at the end. Felt good. Nothing like low humidity and cool temps to get the mojo back!

I much prefer the cold to the heat....its all about learning what to wear. I also think a light windbreaker jacket made ALL the difference in the world last year when it got really cold. Hats, gloves, leggings, find what works for you....its all trial and error. Actually last year on one long run I ran back by my house to drop off a layer as I got hot.

I think if you have a big race to train for, it helps you get out on the road or treadmill. I did all my training last year outside and loved it....cold and all. We did have a week of snow and ice that I didn't get out but this year, taking my neighbors up on treadmill offering if that happens again.

I am OK with short runs on treadmill, just love being outside!

Just finished making ADR's. The week following the race will not include anything healthy and I'm okay with that. I just have to lose the other 25lbs and then I won't feel guilty about it.

Upbeat music is my thing, I tried podcasts but my mind wandered and then I wanted to know what I missed and it was distracting.

Sadly I have Broadway stuff (real belters), Glee covers, some fast paced pop stuff and disney on my long run playlist. I have a slow song at the beginning, then some fast paced I want to dance to it songs, then some just really happy songs, then some fast paced again towards the end.

Pj

Sadly?? That's exactly what I have. Broadway and music from movies. the songs are long and great to run to.

Thanks, I'll probably have to do weekday short runs on the treadmill, but still get to do the long runs outside. I may have to look for 24 series on ebay. I loved it the first few years, then missed the beginning and didn't jump back in. That may make the time go by. I used to run while watching Seinfeld, made for a funny start, but I've seen them all a million times now.

Congrats on the running buddy!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I REALLY needed it today!

So, new game plan...a trip to the running store for new shoes & socks, and look out itunes, here I come to get some music to keep me going on the long hauls!!

Yay!! So glad I am a part of this amazing sisterhood!!!:grouphug:

Made mine a few days ago! What do you have booked?? We will be dining at all new places this time...California Grill, Via Napoli, and Kouzzina!

We booked our ADRs at the Yak & Yeti, Sci-Fi, Tony's Town Square and Le Cellier. All are new to us, except for Le Cellier, a family favorite!

...and a confession I too, I have show tunes on my music playlist! It's shared with some Disturbed, some AC DC, Abba, and Natalie Cole. A huge, motivating variety! Maybe I could use some Bette Middler though?

We have ADRs for Rose & Crown, Le Cellier, Coral Reef, Biergarten (see a trend, we love Epcot),Tony's, Crystal Palace, and Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic Package.

We loved Yak & Yeti the last time we went, didn't plan for it this time although we got Le Cellier this time which is a first for us.

I was so excited to finally make our dining reservations! We are eating at Yak and Yeti, Le Cellier (celebration dinner!!!), Brown Derby, Plaza Restaurant and Fresh or Kona. All new except for Le Cellier.

As for a massage after the race ~ last year I had a hot stone therapy massage and it was awesome! I thought it helped in my recovery. I went in sore and tired and came out very refreshed and not sore at all. I can't wait to do it again this year.

Th idea of a massage appeals, but lying with my head even slightly facing downward from my feet is never good for me, :( The solo massage villa/treatment on the Magic for my birthday was not a highlight of my cruise last year.
