I had a pretty pathetic run tonight. I didn't feel the best before I left and had just finished dinner, but I made myself go out anyway. The one good part of the run was that the weather is AWESOME! It's in the 70's and a little breezy. I need to remember to pack snacks to have on the way home so I can get my runs in before dinner. Running on a full stomach in not fun!

I hope everyone else had good runs today!

Any run is still a run!!

I managed to drag my sorry behind to the gym while dinner was cooking, and did a little over 2 miles. This whole week I have been wiped out, so this was my only midweek run. I strive for two and then the long one on Saturday, but oh well.

Jealous of your 70s. It was still about 93 on my way home from work at 6:30ish.

We had great weather here today too. No humidity and only in the 80s. I got out this morning around 11:00 and it was so nice to be sweating from running and not just walking out the door. I stuck with 200/100m intervals and my knee is still holding up. Next run I think I will keep it at the same intervals but try to increase from 2 to 3 miles.

For those who use the RunKeeper app, how accurate do you find the average pace to be. Today when I was out I felt like I was jogging slow, or atleast trying to, but it said my average pace was about 9 min/mile. :confused3 I can't imagine I'm going that fast. Even before the tendonitis started up I was doing 3 miles and it said my pace was about 11:30 min/mile. I'm trying to take it slow so I don't cause more problems with my knee.

you all are making my jealous! I'm still stuck inside on an elliptical since my knee surgery last tuesday (Aug 2). Can't wait until I can be out on the road again, but know I need to go slowly.

Yes the monorail will be running- or at least it always has been for the races I've done.

There are 3 ways to make your time better if you run intervals:
1. run faster
2. walk faster
3. shorten walk time/run time
(seems so easy just written like that LOL)

I thought the same thing about a run being a run last night, even if my pace for my 3 mile run was about the same pace as my goal marathon pace. :rotfl:

I feel for you still having to deal with the heat. I've had enough of the extreme heat this summer. I would be perfectly content if the weather stayed in the 80's for highs the rest of the summer...

Great job on the 2 miles while making dinner. That's some serious multitasking!

I don't use run keeper, but I do use another running app on my phone (endomondo.) I don't really pay attention to my pace while I run because it seems to be all over the place. Since I run intervals usually, it takes the amount of time I'm walking to figure out I have stopped running, and then gets confused when I start running again. I do like the feature that tells me when I've gone one mile because it announces my pace for that mile. It's easy for my to get a sense from that whether I should speed up or slow down. It does stink that it takes that long for the App to announce it, but I can also do some mental calculations since I usually try to stay around a 10 min/mile, or a little faster, to see if I need to go faster.

I hope your recovery is quick and the weather near you isn't too nice so you don't feel like you are missing out! When are you going to be able to start running again?

This is WAAAYYY off topic, but I'm so excited I just had to share with my WISH friends!!
I was hired this week and an independant Disney travel consultant (AKA, Magic Maker) with Off to Neverlan Travel! I am so stinkin' excited!! I'm working my way through the College of Disney Knowledge right now so Ihaven't been able to keep up on this board as often as I did the past few weeks.
Wahoo for me!!:cool1:

I'm a Disney travel agent as well and it is SO much fun to plan trips for others! Enjoy!

That's interesting to hear about the larger sizes not working. I got fitted and miy running shoe is 1 1/2 sizes bigger than my regular shoe! But it's seemed to work for me - I ran for almost a year without injury and even then my PT said my shoes weren't the problem. Is anyone else running in a shoe so much bigger than their regular? My everyday shoe is a 6, but my Brooks are a 7.5.

My problem(that is in a earlier post) was I said 7 to the guy and he convinced me to go with 7.5. I had told him my running shoe size. Regular shoes I wear in 6 and 6.5. So the 7.5 was too big and left my foot swimming.

I think mine is that I switched to men's shoes. I think I would be more like a 7.5/8 in men's (regular shoe size is 9.5/10 women's), and the toe box is nice and wide which works well for me. The guy talked me into a 9 and the 8.5 works much better.

That is so exciting - would either of you be open to questions over PM on how you did this or have a website you could direct me to? I've often thought that would be something that would be up my alley, but don't know time committment, experience needed etc.

Headed out for a mid-day 3 miler. Working from home is awesome and it's still below 80 here in Richmond!! Miracles can happen :goodvibes

Yes!! Ever since I had kids my feet expanded almost an ENTIRE size. I am now an 8 or 8.5 in street shoes, and my right foot is bigger than my left. I starting wearing 8.5 in Asics when I got back to running, but had serious problems with blisters/black toes. I went up to size 9 for the next shoe, STILL too many problems. I just moved over to Mizuno and unbelievably, went to a size 10. Although their sizes do run smaller than Asics. It's embarassing the shoe size for my small frame (5'3", 105 lbs).

But so far, the issues w/ my feet are entirely gone. I will just need to get over the self-confidence of having big feet - I guess whatever it takes to keep on runnin'. :goodvibes

Hi everyone,
Just found the perfect something to hang my Tinkerbell 1/2 and Princess 1/2 medals.:rolleyes1 It has more room for other ones down the road too!

I ordered this medal display earlier this year after the Princess and I absolutely love it! FYI, if anyone orders, the pic shows a "P" cut into the center of the hanger...I figured it was just an example and I could chose my own letter...but when I went to order there was no way to do that. I sent an email and inquired about it and was told they put the "P" there for "Princess" but they happily offered to make up a quick example with whatever letter I wanted, emailed it to me for approval, and made one for me that way at no extra charge! Very friendly company!

Those are super cute! I don't want to end up having all my medals thrown in a box like what happened to pretty much all my swimming medals and some of my triathlon.

I actually saw a frame in one person's office that had the medal in the center and the ribbons were "framing" the medals. It looked really cool. They happened to have a medal from every Disney race which made it even cooler to me.

Hi RunChica,

this is straight from Jeff Galloways 1/2 Marathon, You Can do It!!

It said to maintain a 9 min pace you could do a 3 minute run 30 sec walk or 5 min run 1 min walk.

Thanks for the info. Oddly I can't find too much on the Web about longer vs shorter intervals for run/walkers. On the one hand, I can cover a lot of ground at a time with more running (and relax more on the walk part); on the other hand, I also heard that more frequent walk breaks leave you more "rested" for a long total run session.

Anyone done the run/walk combo in a half and has opinions? I don't plan on having a phone with me. Plan on using the mile markers to guide if I choose the longer intervals. If I go with shorter intervals, will likely use a Gymboss clipped to my hat.

I'm not a strict Galloway runner, but I kind of adapted the theory to work for me. I usually walk for one minute after every mile. Right now I am coming off shin splints and practically starting over, so I am starting out at a run 3 / walk 1 interval to get me going again. For the Princess last year (my one and only half so far) I mostly kept with the 1 mile / 1 min thing, but when you stop to take pictures of stuff and with characters, there are so many walk breaks naturally built in that I found I was just running from one photo op to another!!! If there was a stretch of no photo ops, I just let the mile markers guide me.

dawn8179...what is that in your avatar?? t looks like a yummy treat that my sweet tooth would crave!

Thought you guys might like seeing some costume ideas!

http://d-princesses.livejournal.com/856571.html
The costumes people have come up with are fantastic! To be honest, I'm not planning on a costume. My goal is to cross the finish line, and I'm afraid messing with my costume, getting uncomfortable, or getting overheated may prevent me from reaching that goal. Everyone who dressed up looks so good though.... Maybe I'll check out the Halloween costume shops for some princessy(yes, that is a word!) accesories.
