Happy Independence Day Princesses!

My route to the race has take an abrupt halt. I've been working with a knee injury since a couple of weeks after Princess 2011 and finally the Sports Med Dr decided I needed to have an MRI. I have a meniscus tear with some minor tearing in the ACL of my left knee and am waiting for an appointment with a surgeon (July 18). I'll do what I can to keep in shape as best I can now and hope the recovery is as quick as my last meniscus surgery (ran a 5K about 5 weeks later). It has thrown off my plans for a fall half but I can deal with that! Now I'm looking forward to signing the whole Royal Meyer family (ok at least the female family) up for the race after noon tomorrow.

Sorry about your knee, I hope they can fix it in time for the princess

Larrabe - Thank you, thank you, thank you, for such a good laugh this afternoon! Would love to see a post-princess report from you, if your 5K report was that entertaining!

Congrats on your time goal - time is time, and you made it in!

Thanks, Amy!! I do plan on doing a trip report because I absolutely love reading them! But I also hope to be a little smarter by then. ;)

All right, fellow Princesses, race registration is only one day away!! :cool1: My BFF and I ran the Princess Half for the first time this year and had SO MUCH FUN that we immediately decided it's going to be an annual tradition from now on.

Just one question: does anyone know what the minimum expected time is that doesn't require proof of time from a previous race? I seem to remember that you needed to submit proof of time for anything less than 2 hours 45 minutes, but I'm not totally sure and I'm too impatient to wait until I see it on the registration form tomorrow! :)

Who else is signing up right away?

Happy 4th Princess Racers!

I think I will sign up this week, not sure. Def before the price goes up.

Bookwood, hope your knew gets better soon!

I did a big 10K this morning - 60,000 runners! It was hot and humid put a blast. They have bands along the way, tons of crowd support and one of the churches blesses with holy water. I didn't do a PR or anything, but was happy I finished and had a fun run, though the last mile I just decided to take easy. Hoping everyone has a safe and happy 4th.

I can't even imagine! The largest race I've ever done is the WDW Half, and that taps out at 27,000 --- you are made of stern stuff, I would have been totally intimidated!

The Princess is going to feel like a few close girlfriends (and nice fellas)running a race for you! :goodvibes

Happy Fourth, everyone! I have what's probably a sort of dumb problem, as it just indicates that I didn't do my homework ahead of time. I donated blood this past Friday, then had an absolutely terrible, and very short, run on Saturday. (Duh!) After finally doing a bit of research, I learned that it takes several weeks for the blood's hemoglobin level to get back to normal. Has anyone had experience with this before? Fortunately, my next race is a fun 5K at the end of this month, and my next half(second one ever) is mid-November. My half training program starts next week, but the first 3 weeks or so are very easy and I'm ahead of schedule. At my age (59) it's realistic to assume it will take me a full month to fully recover, right?

Hope everyone here in the US is having a good 4th of July holiday.

I just found out that the Rock & Roll 1/2 marathon is going to be local for me about two weeks before the Princess 1/2. I'm more interested in the Princess, but I know DH would love the Rock & Roll. Are these too close together to consider running both? Neither of us has run a half before. The Princess for me at least is more about the experience and finishing than a specific time goal.

I also did the Peachtree this morning. I loved all the music along the route, it helped me keep going. I'm happy that Disney races are not in July, it was pretty hot out there today.

Hi Say Say,
It was hot but the Peachtree is so much fun!! It got me really pumped up and ready to take the dive and go ahead and sign up this week for the Princess!! I am glad you enjoyed the race, me and two other girlfriends did it and we had a blast running through the sprinklers, being blessed by the Holy Water, doing the Cupid Shuffle and eating all the samples on the course!! Glad to you were apart of the 60,000 people madness!!

Its the Peachtree Road Race, the world's largest 10k. It just amazing how they do the corrals, letters A-Z and it went really smoothly. Not intimidating at all, so much support on the sidelines the whole way. Its a great race, 48 states were represented. If you are familiar with Grete Waitz she won the Peachtree several times. Jeff Galloway is from here and he had a party one of his stores after the race. Its a fun time....though it was SO hot today, 74 when it started and its now pouring, so it was humid this morning. Can't wait to do the princess again!

I wore a bondi band for the first time ever and the sweat never hit my eyes! I looked dorky I think...though it was festive 4th of July theme, but man that thing was awesome! The humidity wiped me our for the rest of the day. Thank goodness at least the first 3 miles are all downhill. And I said the PRincess last year was hot...um, not like today!:lmao:

I came in 31,382 place and I am thrilled! I did this race 2 times 11 years ago- why I waited so long to go back I don't know. So much support from the community its great. I grew up watching it with my dad from the parking lot at Peachtree Battle just before the first hill. You are going to LOVE the princess. Its a fun race!

Aw, sorry about your injury and upcoming surgery! I hope you have a speedy recovery. :)

I'm registering today! Even though I have several races on my calendar before February, I need some extra motivation to get running again after a lazy and food filled weekend.

Can't wait for the registration to open at noon!! I already signed up for the Tinkerbell 1/2 so training has started :thumbsup2 I want my coast to coast so bad...

I'm registering today, too! :woohoo: I bought new running shoes yesterday plus toe caps to help protect my second toes from the impact. My only lasting physical sign from this year's Princess Half (besides, of course, the glow of accomplishment!) was in how my second toenails grew out thickened after the soreness faded.

I'm so excited! Just over two hours until registration!! I wonder how quickly the race will sell out this time and if they'll have more participants than before. Watching the clock ... :yay:
