Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I had to cancell my doctor's appt yesterday since I couldn't get our new insurance numbers. I got them today, and got another appt for tomorrow. I'm really worried it's stress fractures. I kept both legs ace wrapped today, but didn't take any Advil. I think my stomach needs a rest. Holy cow did my leg hurt today. The worst is going up and down the stairs. Just hoping for the best but expecting bad news. :sad2:

Oh no... I hope you get better than expected news from the doctor! Good luck! Sending some pixie dust your way...

Hi everyone I've not posted in a while but i've been trying to keep up with the thread best I can! I have seen a lot of princesses on facebook talking about the race retreat & as much as I would love to do it I can't justify the extra cost as I'm planning on signing up for the DL Half & going Coast to Coast from the UK!

I've run a couple of Half Marathons before & my PB is 2:04:58 - obviously the princess will be slower as I'll be stopping for photos etc but my mum is walking the princess & will prob cross the line about 2 hours behind me!!! What I'd like to know is what will be in the finish area for me to do for those 2hours?! Obviously I'll watch some of the other princesses cross the line but do runners not in the race retreat have access to food, character photos, medal engraving & massages & if so what are the approx costs?!

Thanks in advance for any advice - I can't believe it's so close now! princess:

as others have said the swollen hands is probably an electrolyte issue. Dr's along the racecourse at Country Music Marathon told a friend to put a salt packet under her tongue and just leave it there.

I've used that advice for several years now and have less issues with cramps as well as "fat hands"- both of which were issues for me. Use the "pillow" type of salt packet available in the food courts and not the rippled ones (MacDonalds has rippled ones) and I found out the rippled ones leak alot more and you end up with salt everywhere! (as if the sweaty salt all over my body isn't enough LOL)

I have to admit I'm getting worried about this race, hoping my knee will survive the experience. After 7 miles last week I've had more problems with it swelling and being uncomfortable- maybe the Dr was right when he said, "no more long runs".

Hi everyone! Gee I haven't posted since I introduced myself and signed up in August! But i have been trying to read along this whole time. Lots of great questions have been asked and answered along the way. For that, I am grateful as I have learned lot.

I am getting so excited about the race! Travel plans are set. Training is going great! My longest runs were separated by a week. I did a 10 miler on Christmas Eve morning and then 12 miles to celebrate the first day of 2012. It felt so great to do those and now I feel like the half marathon us attainable. Sparkle skirt has beee ordered. I'm going for a non-Disney princess just to be different. I'll be a Mayan Princess.

So I'm trying to figure out park days. what are you all doing. I'm thinking of getting a two day pass but really will only get two half days. Trying to decide what two parks to do. I will probably do Animal Kingdom on Monday morning before we have to go for our flight. Trying to decide on Magic Kingdom or Epcot after the race. What are your plans?

Hello! I would pick MK to go to if I was only there for 2 half days, it just wouldn't seem Disney if I didn't go to mk. You also could get park hoppers and spend a half day at each park??

My plans for race day are: get to race retreat around 3:30am, hang out there, race, hang out in retreat until crowds thin a bit. Then back to BLT to clean up, then to Saratoga springs for lunch at turf club then to the spa for massage and a full facial. Then meet the family at Epcot and dinner at garden grill!

We are there for a total of eight nights so we can spread out a bit where we are going. Wow we are getting close!

I'm tired just reading your plans! :cutie:

I booked LTT for dinner at 5:15pm on Sunday and I just booked the Wishes Dessert Party afterwards as a surprise for my mom!

First, WOW the UK...you are a fan! I hope this will be a nice vacation for you!

When I cross the finish line at Disney races, we have a variety of snacks i.e. bananas, muffins, oranges, bagels. We are also offered bottled water and bottled Powerade. You have the opportunity to take a photo after you get your medal. From there, you can walk around, take in the entertainment, and stand in line for character meet and greets. It is important to note, that once you pass a certain point in the finishline que, you will not be able to go back inside to look for your mom. One time I finished a race before my husband, I waited for him just before the finishline pictures are taken and it turned out to be the best picture! In addition, if you both check a bag, you can go over with your claim tickets and pick those up before your mom crosses the finishline. Just a few things you can do while you wait for your mom.

I am excited for both of you! You will have tons of fun!

Hi!!! :wave2: Hopefully I'm in the right spot to become an official WISH'er! I'm a newbie to the DISboards... Could I please be added to the list?! I went to the "WISH'ers walking, running and "other"ing in 2011--General Discussion thread" but it didn't look like people were posting there anymore, so I'm not sure where to go...

I will be running in the Princess Half in February. This is my first Disney race and first Half Marathon!!! :cheer2:

Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to become an official WISH'er. I *think* I have subscribed to the Princess Thread.

Can't wait to get to know you all! :yay:

Stephanie

Congratulations! I am new to the WISH'er boards as well. I am sure you are very excited about our upcoming race. So happy for you...first Disney race AND first Half. :-)

Good point Kappy Family. But I do love Epcot too. And my family just spent Christmas in southern California (which is why I squeezed in both long runs in that gorgeous weather before heading back to the midwest) and did Disneyland there. So even though it's slightly different from the MK, I still feel like I did it more recently than Epcot. This is an Girls weekend for me without kids so I'm trying to figure out what are the things I usually regret not being able to to do because of the kids. They don't do roller coasters so there is Space mountain, splash, and thunder mountain at MK. But I love Soarin' and Test Track at Epcot. And I've never done Mission Space. Decisions decisions!

Hello everyone!! I'm excited and kinda scared to announce that I'll be signing up to run the princess half this year. :yay: I started running 5/11 after my second child turned 1 to get back in shape, I hadn't run a mile since high school and my only goal was to run a mile or two without stopping. That turned into 5 miles pretty quickly. I'm slow, but determined. :cool2:

So one of my best friends from my hometown Chicago told me 2 weeks ago she was flying down to run the princess and I should train for it. I told her she was crazy. :rotfl: but in looking at her beginners training plan from runners world I decided if I could do the first week without issue, then I'm in.

Since I'm local, a lot of my friends have done rundisney events before so I know it'll be a great time. I'm just super nervous and looking forward to learning from you all!!
:cheer2:

Congratulations and welcome! You are going to love the Princess Race! Kudos to you!

The friend traveling with me hasn't been to Disney since she was a teenager, so we're def doing Magic Kingdom just to see the fireworks one evening. We're so positive about our energy level that we're planning to do Disney Sunday, Universal Monday (just to go to Harry Potter) then back to Disney for EMH that evening then Disney Tuesday till we have to get on Magical Express! Note that it looks like Big Thunder will be down for rehab while we're there.

I haven't been able to run all week and I'm happy to report I got a good, if not small run in this morning. I''m in such a better mood!!!! I tried a tempo run and pushed myself 0.5 miles faster a minute than I usually do so I was proud. I did notice that I was more achy during running and remembered that I didn't take my pre-run Aleve's. I have to remember to take them during each run.

Can anyone give me the link for the race retreat? If you pay for the platinum cheer squad, are they allowed into the race retreat?

****Found it*****

Gotcha! I think would do EPCOT then, and book a nice dinner that you normally wouldnt bring the kids too!

Yes! Nice dinner reservation has been made at California Grill! I am looking forward to it. This is part of why I wanted to go to MK or Epcot so I can get to the Contemporary easily through the monorail (or walking). I wish we had more time! Are you bringing your kids on this trip?

Are any of you doing the parks on Saturday or are you just taking it easy? Our plan is lots of pool time but who knows how warm it will be.

So now that I know I can run 12 miles, my biggest fear is an injury in the next 45 days. Anybody else have this irrational fear?

My plan is to do a little bit of Epcot on Sun, then a massage and then dinner at O'hana. Last year we did something very similar and I had no issues with soreness.

I have a blister question though. Last year I had no problems with them all through out training but during the 1/2 at about mile 4 I felt a blister coming and by mile 8 it popped. The only thing I could figure out was that I got a pedicure a couple of days before the trip and that messed up my feet. Anyway when I do long runs now I still get the blister in the same spot. I've switched socks and it still happens. What else can I do?

Merci

I found that completely burning myself out at the park this past Saturday was the best idea ever! We woke up at 5 to get to the MK by 6 to watch a friend run Donald and then went to HS, rode a few rides, went to AK, rode a few rides, went back to MK, rode a few rides and ate lunch, and then back to HS in time for our 6pm dinner reservation. By the time dinner was finished and we were back to the hotel around 8, all we wanted to do was get to bed.

Perfect timing, considering we were able to get 6 hours of sleep before having to wake up at 2.

And I don't know if the fear is irrational-- but then again, I'm clumsy. Just don't push it.

It was not the same group that I found, so thanks!! Request sent. Man, it's a big group!
Yes, it is and now I have made it tough to keep up cause so many of us are here and there....! Trying to recall who is who there and here:)

Hi, all... I haven't been here in quite a while. Unfortunately, my Disney Princess plans have been derailed, as tomorrow I'm having a double mastectomy. I had breast cancer 6 years ago, with a lumpectomy and radiation, and had no problems since then until December. Lumpectomy was an option again, as it's in the other breast, but radiation would definitely keep me from running. Looking over my shoulder for that Big C monster the rest of my life did not seem like an acceptable option, so tomorrow it's bye bye, tatas. I will be back to running ASAP - my doctor says as soon as a couple of weeks - but I'm too far behind on my training and there is probably a 10 percent chance of my being able to participate and not get swept. I haven't totally given up yet, and hubby is running it, so there will be bling in this house... just not mine.

It's been so much fun reading about you all and your training milestones, and I will continue to check in and keep up with the news. Best of luck to you ALL!!

Pattie
Pattie, for you to wish us all Luck, and you are the True Warrior....Please come back and let us know how you are doing. Dont give up....if you are up to walking it....just tell that sweeper, if you see one, what you literally just "swept"...I really hope and pray you are doing well.... You are in my thoughts, and will be during that race.....for many of us here too....keep us posted please:flower3:
Have you ladies thought about creating an additional Facebook group for those on here?
Good idea:idea: I cannot keep up with both!

Joining this thread...hi everyone!

To Patti - best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.

To all... I just ran the Disney Half this past weekend. I had been nursing a couple of injuries during the past month and one flared up during the half - my left knee. I was able to finish - it wasn't pretty, but I did finish. Don't know what's wrong with it. It feels better every day though so I'm hoping it won't keep my sidetracked too long.

I'm considering running the Princess. My DD wants to run it and my husband too! That's my question...do guys run this race? Everything that I've read point to a ladies only race.
Hi there! Yes, guys do run it, over 800 finished last yr I think, he might be called a man a rella....:) Love it! Didnt you love the Half?! I did it last year..congrats on your finish!!!!!

Yes! I just joined last week.
:thumbsup2

I'm thinking of getting the Race Retreat but I would really like to meet up with everyone. The W tent sounds like a good idea to me, of course this will be my frist Princess Half so I have no concept of where anything is located.

I finally booked my hotel for the weekend! I'll be staying at All Star Sports, not my first choice but it works better with my budget than the BC :)
AND you are closer to the EXPO..I love Sports, esp with the bus service there...the EXPO could be a place to meet as well....however I think alot of women will be shopping:rolleyes1

Welcome!! That is a great PB you have!:thumbsup2 I know there are goody bags with a few food items in bags after the race, however the RR has the extras...I think the engraving is access to all..I am doing the DL Half C2C as well!

Hi...I have read that its best not to do anything to your feet pre race...maybe have a pedi at least 7-10 days out...if you have a local running store near you...they make special , cant recall what they are called, toe caps or something....it stretches around your toe and protects them, I have worn them in training and helps...I have had one too many blisters and lost a few toenails along the way! They are like little toe condoms....(sorry...but thats why I call them)

Just an FYI....

The "where are you staying for the Princess 1/2" thread was updated today (located under Events/Competition boards like this thread).

You can PM me with your info if you would like to be added to it.

I normally use the giant burn pads that you can get in most drug stores for existing blisters and also for places I know my feet rub during late parts of long runs: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/wa...eatments_PLA_Burn_Care_prod6067837&adtype=pla.

Basically, I cut the larger pad down to the size I need (or if it's a big spot and I'm pre-emptively putting it on I use the whole thing), peel the blue wrapper and stick the sterile sticky side to my foot. I'll wrap it with the spongy pre-wrap, but not tight enough that it's uncomfortable, and then use tape just to secure it.

It's a little expensive, but I have yet to come across anything like the burn pads that allows me to run on existing blisters.
