Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

My hands swell too! I wish I knew what to do about it! Part of me thinks it's not being hydrated enough but no amount of pre-physical activity water seems to help!

On another subject I'm getting ready to do my 11 miler this weekend and does anyone have any sort or formula or idea of how many energy supplements (ie gu) one should have?

This usually means not enough salt. Sports drink or a pinch of salt in your 20 oz. water bottle plus a little Apple Cider Vinegar.

I agree with flatland. Try electrolyte tablets. Succeed or Endurolyte are both good. I would take one before and one every 45 min for a long run. I usually alternate Gu with a tablet during a race... tablet at 30, Gu at 1hr, etc.

Also, and this might get lost in the shuffle, but the start is CRAZY. There are so many people trying to figure out where to go and what to do, and it's dark out. The last two years I have done this race with 7-9 people, all wearing the same shirt, where we were spending the weekend together, and we still had trouble locating each other after checking gear.

I would plan either to meet somewhere very specific, or collect everyone that wants to meet up beforehand and exchange cell numbers or something.

When I run, I constantly have to shake my hands out because I feel like my hands are swelling up. Does anyone here get that? If so, what do you think I"m doing wrong?

As much as I like the idea of compression socks, knee-high socks never fit properly on me since I'm so short (4'9"). I also buy boy's running shoes because they fit much better than women's. They're a little wider and not so long. Works for me!

I have the same thing! I actually run with my hands open in a loose fist because they feel weird! I'm always randomly shaking and opening/closing my hands!

Hi, all... I haven't been here in quite a while. Unfortunately, my Disney Princess plans have been derailed, as tomorrow I'm having a double mastectomy. I had breast cancer 6 years ago, with a lumpectomy and radiation, and had no problems since then until December. Lumpectomy was an option again, as it's in the other breast, but radiation would definitely keep me from running. Looking over my shoulder for that Big C monster the rest of my life did not seem like an acceptable option, so tomorrow it's bye bye, tatas. I will be back to running ASAP - my doctor says as soon as a couple of weeks - but I'm too far behind on my training and there is probably a 10 percent chance of my being able to participate and not get swept. I haven't totally given up yet, and hubby is running it, so there will be bling in this house... just not mine.

It's been so much fun reading about you all and your training milestones, and I will continue to check in and keep up with the news. Best of luck to you ALL!!

Oh my Pattie! Will be thinking about you in the morning and hoping all goes well for a full and easy recovery. You've come a long way so far and that is admirable! I understand you can defer your run to any future Disney run. Contact RunDisney to confirm before taking my word for it. Depending on my diagnosis this week, I'm considering it, otherwise my DH will wear my tutu and tiara!

I bought a pair of Zensah Compression Socks from Schwaggle for my DD. She wore them this past weekend for the WDW Marathon Relay and swears they were a life saver for her! In addition, I wore a pair of Zensah Compression Sleeves because I had been experiencing pain in my shins during training. I wore the sleeves for the first time during my half of the WDW Marathon Relay... No shin pain at all!!!

Soooo, my DD and I would say the compression socks/sleeves are highly recommended. I am purchasing a couple more with this Schwaggle Deal!

I have both Zensah and CEP compression sleeves. The Zensah are comfy and the CEP are tighter (medical grade?). I wore them all the time and loved them. However, I still developed shin splints that lead into stress fractures. As Im now recovering, I put them on when I get out of the shower until bedtime. I've noticed a big difference in my recovery that I feel naked without them.

My favorite gel product is GU Roctane Pineapple. It's caffeine free. I squeeze a bit in my mouth about once 5-15 mins. It took me about 6 miles to go through one package. It quenched my mouth, gave me energy and was tasty. Post race recovery was a chocolate shake my DH makes with water and Endurox R4. It helps prevent my migraines thereafter! :thumbsup2

Anyone else getting a website error when they try to go to the Run Disney page for the Princess HM?

I get that yes, I need to have my arms up and swinging more, but if I hold something (anything) in my hands less swelling. But you will find me on a 5mi+ with my hands held up over my head to reduce the swelling at some point. I am a GU at 45 mins in and after each extra 45 mins. I grabbed some electrolyte tabs the last time I went to the running room, will have to test them out before the race to see if they help.

Hi!!! :wave2: Hopefully I'm in the right spot to become an official WISH'er! I'm a newbie to the DISboards... Could I please be added to the list?! I went to the "WISH'ers walking, running and "other"ing in 2011--General Discussion thread" but it didn't look like people were posting there anymore, so I'm not sure where to go...

I will be running in the Princess Half in February. This is my first Disney race and first Half Marathon!!! :cheer2:

Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to become an official WISH'er. I *think* I have subscribed to the Princess Thread.

Can't wait to get to know you all! :yay:

Welcome Stephanie! All you have to do to become a WISHer is starting posting and join in on the fun! This is an amazing group and they can answer any questions you have. Congrats on signing up for the Princess!!!

Me too. It looks like the site is down. Maybe they are working on the Princess Program!!! princess::flower3:

I thought about this too. Someone over on the Disney Princess FB group mentioned that all of the flash pages on that site are down.

But I like your suggestion better.

Welcome to another Georgia Princess! It would be worth a few minutes (HA!) to scroll back through some of these pages and read up; there have been lots of good questions answered and great advice given! The princess is so much fun - you'll have a great time! :yay:

Hi All!

In the process of getting back on track after vacation. We did manage to get in some short runs-- 3 mi in LA, and 3.5 and 2.5 mi on the ship. Kudos to the person who is training on the cruise ship! I don't know how you do it consistently: On the 2 nice sea days it was fairly easy to run around the Promenade Deck (though 3 laps to a mile gets dull pretty fast), but the third sea day was just too rough (couldn't even walk in a straight line, let alone run).

Getting back into training now: 4.5mi yesterday and another tomorrow. Next long run is 12 mi! Hopefully it will stay dry-ish this weekend.

We're getting closer and closer Princesses!

Excited - found my wings today! Tink wings, to be exact. They were on clearance at the Disney Store, and here's my favorite part - not only do they light up, but they stinkin' glow in the dark! Now, I don't really know why you need them to glow if they also light up, but I'm pleased to no end, thinking that I will be a beacon for the first 5 miles!:rotfl2: They were the last pair, so I took it as a sign from God. And they were cheap enough so that if they really irritate me during the run, I will make some little girl along the race route VERY happy!

Thinking of you during this difficult time and praying for a speedy recovery!

I finally ordered the CEP compression socks and LOVE them! When I did my research it said the Zensah ones were much thicker and made people hot so I went with the CEP and couldn't be happier.
Also, am I supposed to be drinking an electrolyte on my long runs? I've ran up to 10 miles and haven't had it once, just water. I do eat a clif block every 45 miutes with water but how else will the electrolytes help?
One more, when I'm running my intervals is it ok to change it up based on how I'm feeling at the moment? Meaning I usually run a 5/1 interval but on my long runs I've been changing it between 5-6 run intervals, is that ok?
