Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Sending good thougts to Disneyboyz and Hockey Kat:)
mamacate...thanks:)

anyone here post or visit the Princess Half group on FB?

Thanks!

I decided today to try sports massage as an option before going to the orthopedist. Whatever the doctor did yesterday when he was trying to diagnose made it feel quite better today.

Long story short, I am pretty sure it was the right thing to do. The weakness and weird feeling is gone and I can walk on it MUCH better.

It hurts right now but in the same way the rest of me from the hips down hurts, from the massage! I had a lot of tightness in both legs, the one from overcompensating for the last two weeks.

I am definitely going to DNS on my marathon planned for Feb 12th, but it is looking much better that I will be able to finish the Princess! :)

Great news Kat:thumbsup2 I am making an effort to stretch better cause I Have had issues with my IT Band , I have one of those sticks, travel size...but grabbed a foam roller today...I really want to enjoy this run and not worry about anything.

I just started running in 2010 at age 44...I want to enjoy this as long as i can:)

I know nothing is guaranteed, but I can't remember this. At what point in the race ie what mile approx is one "safe" from the Balloon ladies and pacers. Granted I won't be lolly gagging but the nagging memory of me hurting my foot last year on my 11.5 mile training run has me nervous. Just need to know if I really have to slow down, at what point is best bet.

Hopefully I will be able to keep on keeping on with my intervals...albeit the slow side, just wanted to make a mental note.

I have to admit I have some serious Disney envy right now. I know my flight to the Princess is in 8 weeks, but that's still not helping when I'm seeing friends checking in at MCO and posting pictures of the hotels and expo on Facebook. *Big sigh*.

I think it's once you enter Epcot again or right after you get over that highway...once you are back on park property

So ladies...what are you all planning on wearing for the race? Anyone dressing up???

I'm one of the lucky ones that get to upgrade the the Poly! I am so excited. I haven't stayed there before so getting it at a Mod discounted price has me very happy! Thank you Pixie Dust and slow contractors or whatever...lol

It does cast a wrench in my pre-race plans of pasta at POR though. I have to figure out another option I suppose- such is life. HA!

I had the guys on the bikes with the orange flags (sweepers) pass me and "turn in for the day" right as we go up and over the final over pass into Epcot. They were done around mile 11-11.25 ish I think. I was safe at that point, as long as I could make it to the end I could finish. And I did! I never saw balloons and I was pretty far back in the pack, but I also never turned around to look!

Awesome! I remember staying at the Poly as a kid and LOVED it there.

You know my mantra - acupuncture! Has helped a ton with my neck/back issues and cleared up my shin splints and anything else I've seemed to tweak with this training!

Ticket question for the group - just found out I'm going to be able to do the Wine and Dine Half thanks to my parents planning their annual fall trip that weekend in November. Know they offer discounted tickets for the Princess (and need to purchase them soon), are there typically discounted tickets offered for the other races? Just trying to figure out my cheapest route for tickets (annual pass or discounted race tickets) as I plan for the year.

Thanks for any advice and keep running!

My DH did the W&D last year and I believe you could get discounted tickets. You will LOVE the W&D! The after party is AMAZING!!!

oops yes, that would be the sweepers. I never saw them, but apparently they do have balloons so they are easy to spot.

I just posted this story to the Tinkerbell thread too.
And here's my balloon lady story:
My first Disney 1/2 marathon was the Princess last Feb. I wasn't in the know about the balloon lady.
When I was around mile 9, I saw a lady walking with the vans right after her. I felt bad for her that she was the last one. I stopped to take a picture. Later, when I was on the bus, I zoomed in on the picture and saw 2 huge balloons tied around her waist. Just then I figured it out! Plus the next day I read someones' blog and she had pictures posted. She had one of herself with some characters and her face was so funny because she had just seen the balloon lady. I loved her blog, it was great!

Here's hoping we all beat the balloon lady (although I'm sure she's a quite nice person)! :yay:

So ladies...what are you all planning on wearing for the race? Anyone dressing up???

Mulan is my princess of costume this year, though i will keep it simple.

Team sparkle skirt, running shirt with some kind of mulan looking cumberbund sewn to it by me...though I need to be careful don't want to chafe. Ordered a mulan headband tiara from the Disneystore that I will sew in some fashion to my hat as I will need a hat in that direct sun! I will post a picture when its ready.

I'm thinking about having a little mermaid theme to what I'm wearing, but I'm still not sure if I will actually do it or not... we'll see.

I have 2 things ready - I guess I will decide on race day which one to wear!!

Tinkerbell - I made a neon green skirt from dancewear material, and added shimmery petals over it, I would wear that with running shorts underneath, and I have a neon green UA shirt for the top, and I do have a pair of wings that light up - they were child size so I adjusted them to fit my big old arms!!

Jessie (Toy Story) - I bought a child size costume and jacked it up a bit - I took the chaps and wonder-undered them to a pair of tech capris. For the top, I bought 2 tech tanks at Target - a white one and a yellow one - then cut them each in half and sewed a yellow upper to a white one, then used puffy paint for the stitching effect. I also had bought a hat at the Disney store around Halloween, its glittery and has a detachable braid!!

Whenever I get around to it, I will post pics :goodvibes
