Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Oh, Nikki - I'm so sorry to hear that! Four stress factures - that's amazingly serious! I hope all turns out well and that you will heal quickly. So, I guess speed-walking it is out? (I know - I'm being an injury enabler, sorry!)

I worry about my shins. Since last summer's break, I've changed my form and been just fine, even run another half with no unusual or lingering soreness. Lately, though, my calf has been tightening up again and the shins are sore. Not good since I'm already in for the Princess and I just plunked down cash for another half in March! C'mon, shins - hang in there 'til the spring and I promise I'll give you a nice summer break!

You ladies out in the cold astound me. I don't really have access to a TM so I'm pretty much stuck with the weather but it has been blessedly mild. And kinda crazy. Yesterday the HIGH was 36. This weekend, for my long run, it will be back in the low 60's. However, I'm not complaining. Accdg to plan, I've only got 3 more long "long" runs on the schedule, so I figure I can suck it up for 3 if it gets much colder. Besides, the DH gave me those around the head ear warmer things, so I need to give those a spin!

Stay warm, Princesses!:beach:

Next week I'll be doing a bone density scan as well as a Calcium test to make sure I'm do not have any deficiencies, which would be typical with multiple fractures like this.

We still are keeping our reservations and plans...but I'll be participating as a cheerleader instead, supporting all y'all! :cheer2:

How horrible! I hope it's nothing more than multi fractures. Keep us updated

I didn't get the email from RunDisney either ... what did it say?

Ran the Castaway Cay 5K on Monday and finished in 40:45. I was pretty happy with that but my shins and feet were killing me because I've been training on the treadmill and not outside. Plus it was 83 when I was running and there wasn't too much shade. I was so excited to get my Mickey medal :thumbsup2

Then ran my 9.5 miles today. I did that with a 15:32 pace so I feel like I'm making progress. Today is normally my cross training day and I have a trainer that comes so I couldn't reschedule and today was the only day for running long distance. I know I'm going to be super sore tomorrow! :scared1:

anyone here post or visit the Princess Half group on FB?

Ooh, thanks for the reminder! I joined a while ago, but haven't been checking it.

So, I have some questions about timing and meeting up with family.

Our plans keep changing, and we've decided that my daughter and I will go to Disney for vacation and she will stay with me for the race, and my spouse and ASD son will stay home. It's too bad, but I think it's actually a relief for both of them.

So, I'm going to have to hire a sitter (Kids Nite Out) for my daughter for the morning of the race. It seems cruel and unusual to have someone arrive at 3:00 am, though 4 am isn't much better. So, does anyone have any advice for when I should have the sitter arrive? I'm staying at POFQ so the walk to the bus will be short, and I'll be in a later corral. What's the latest I can leave without completely messing myself up?

I'm also interested in how long AFTER the race I should plan to have the sitter. Like I said, I'll be a 3hr plus finisher, so I was thinking 11 am, but I don't have a good sense of what the transportation and after-race stuff is like. Does that sound reasonable?

My daughter really wants to cheer for me, so I'm thinking of getting the $50 chear package for them. I'm not sure they'll make it to the Castle, so is it worth it for the finish line spot? Does it make it any easier to find people after the race?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Cate

That's the gym I go to. I work 7:30 to 4:30 so that slight time frame lets me get a choice cardio machine but the weights are a different story since I do those after cardio. I did some core work yesterday with the weights before I went home to finish the workouts. The parking lot was certainly more packed than usual.

DH works crazy hours so I joined Planet Fitness since it's a 24 hour gym. It helps if I can get my workout in, even it's 3 AM.

Got. 4.5 done in 60 minutes this morning and that was with a 5 min warm-up and 5 min cool down. I figure if I can run the first 5 miles nonstop while it's still dark, I think I'll do well.

And just think - right after 5 miles you get into the Magic Kingdom, so that's a good incentive to shoot for! I was in corral B last year, and while my pictures were dark in the beginning - was bummed I couldn't get a decent pic of the MK sign as you go through to the parking area - it was considerably brighter by the time we actually got IN the MK. I took a pic of the sun coming up over the "Tomorrowland" sign!

Bad news from my Orthopedic. I'm grounded with four stress fractures: two in my left tibia, one in my right tibia and one in my right ankle. Three weeks of doing nothing but resting on my tush. If work won't cooperate with his requests, then he'll take me out for two weeks.

Doc told me that I wont be able to start any training for 8 weeks. He's a marathoner so he understands the goals I set for myself. He suggested getting my DH a rickshaw so I can still participate in the Princess! :rotfl2:

Oh no I'm so so sorry!!!! But rest up and heal so you can run with us in 2013

just a quick hello!! nikki - i'm SO bummed to hear the news about your poor leg. will pm you, dearest.

i'm getting back into the groove with training, but boy howdy, it's tough when you've been away from it for a few weeks! we really are in the home stretch though - the race is next month after all!!

and for what it's worth, please know i'm cheering you all on, even if i'm not posting as much as i'd like. when i'm running, i think of you all... my fellow princesses out there pounding the pavement just like me! even on those runs when we just aren't sure if we can push through and get it done, we are not alone in this quest! thinking of y'all has helped me to keep going on more than one occasion. so whether you realize it or not, you make a difference in the training of others! so thank you! i can hardly wait to meet up with y'all!

xoxo

I haven 't registered yet for the race, but plan to do so tomorrow. My husband and I are running co-ed. What time should I put for a good corral spot. This is my first "race" so I don't have a time yet, but I am averaging a 13.5 mile and will be working on my speed.

I do! It's actually easier for me to check that more b/c it's on my phone. The disboards are not very user friendly on the iphone in my opinion.

Note taken, I'll be getting the iphone 4s in a few days. Bye bye original Droid!!! LOL Can someone send me a link to the group?

The lowest time you can submit, without submitting proof of time, is 2:46... which isn't too far off of your pace, and since you'll most likely be faster on race day, its a pretty accurate estimate.

My hubby & I are doing the race together as well (well, as "together" as we can be until the race starts and he runs at his 8.5mpm pace and I walk at my 15mpm pace!)... fun to see another DH joining in!

Occasionally I will look at it, but I have not posted on there cause I haven't told many people that I will be doing the Princess - only my immediate family and my one uncle and aunt b/c they will be in FL at the same time, and I told a few of my Zumba friends. I'm not ready for the rest of my 99 friends on FB to find out til afterwards ;)

Thanks for sharing the link!

Someone posted there today that they had POR booked, the new Princess rooms, and since some or all, I dont know arent going to be ready, they got an upgrade to YC!

And someone else got upgraded to the Poly. I had been trying to decide whether or not to book the Princess rooms, but decided against it for the extra cost.

As much as it would have KICKED BUTT to get upgraded, for what my friend and I are looking to get out of the weekend, POR probably serves our needs (and budgets/schedules) better (mostly due to the Food Court).

Although seeing that we're planning on hitting up EPCOT, Poly or YC would have been nice...

I currently have AKV booked, however I have to change rooms a few times...lol.std view to a SV view...I had point I ad to use up, so I added Thurs but made things more complicated!
