Official 2012 Florida Half Ironman Thread

Went out this AM and got in 101 miles on the bike. Felt so good decided to do a 10K after. Just a little tired right now but it sure felt good.

John - You are amazing!! After that kind of injury to come back is way too cool!

I remember the last time I was spread out all over the side of the road & My question was also "How's my bike?". I knew it wasn't that great when the Paramedics working on me were not giving me the bad news.

But it's the bike I still ride today (with some replacement parts, of course).

Planning on working on a long ride on tuesday or wednesday (schedule & weather permitting).

I swam for the first time in waaaaay too long on Friday. I also have some shoulder issues (secondary to a bad medication reaction) and it is definitely a factor.

Duane - Good luck on IMFL !! I've got a co-worker who is doing it also (it's her first).

Finally got to Dr. and received some not so good news. Lots of bone on bone rubbing with a big spur and some indents in bone also. Nothing short of replacement will really take care of problem and that is a no-go.

We will join our local county pool that is held at 82* and will just try to find strokes that will allow long distance swimming so I don't drown.

Good luck Duane. JimB, enjoy the biking and keep on getting wet.

Still hoping to read something positive about May.

I'm seeing some "talk" online about the race being moved to Haines City. About 40 min from Disney, so you could still have your WDW vacation.
But no real details yet.
Maybe something will come out by the end of the year. I know the last big Ironman for the US is this weekend in Panama City Beach, so the race people will be busy with that...then they can settle in and get something together for the 70.3.

oh, yeah, and then there is IM Arizona. Not sure if the Florida race management will be tied up at that race, too.

Thanks for the update. Hope that doesn't happen since it would just be a quick weekend trip for me, I'll skip it if it's not at WDW.

Another "will skip it" if not at WDW.

DW saw this yesterday. :cool1: Hoping it is at WDW/FW. :thumbsup2

I also emailed Tribiketransport to see if they would be serving this race (would be a big help for me!) and there's no definite answer yet:

"There is a lot going on behind the scenes now, and we are hoping to service SEVERAL new 70.3’s for 2012 and beyond. Would you please keep an eye on our events calendar here: http://www.tribiketransport.com/event_listing.html ? We will promptly add additional events as the agreements solidify."

I'm still seeing rumblings on a tri website that the race is being moved, so I'm going to throw this bit of unsolicited advice out there:

Don't be in a rush to sign up the very first day registration opens. It's not going to fill up in one day. Make sure you know what you are signing up for--location, etc--first.

I would just hate to see people disappointed that they are signed up for a race that got all changed around.
Just experiencing this with a less drastic course change for the New Orleans 70.3...that run course is changing, which is going to change the character of the race for me a little, and alter logistics a bit. This course change was just announced, and I've been signed up for that race for several months.

Betsy, what changed on the run? Just checked it out and it looks like last years run is still posted. That is if I remember correctly :)

I am holding off on Florida until I see the course. I really liked the NO 69.1 last year :)

Congratulations, Ironman!! (In case I forgot to post on the tri thread.) :thumbsup2

Someone on ST posted an article that they are doing the NOLA 5150 (Olympic distance) race on the same day as the 70.3 now, and they will combine the finish areas to be in City Park, instead of running into the French Quarter. That run was part of why I signed up. I used to live in NOLA, and it was going to be a cool way to remember it. But I've been signed up for awhile, so will do it regardless. Hope there's a swim. lol

The word on ST is that the Florida 70.3 is being moved to Haines City. But some people think that won't happen. Can't tell anything from the race website, so I just wanted to caution people to know the details before they sign up. I mean, race courses change and all that, but for someone to plan a WDW vacation around a race and it isn't held at FW, that could screw some people up.

So...we'll see. The NOLA change wasn't on their website as of yesterday, either, but the link I saw was from a news article.

Here's the link to the Slowtwitch discussion - consensus there seems to be Haines City:

If so, I'm out.

Anybody doing Lake Anna? Timberman? Those are the two (quite divergent) halves I'm considering instead. I need a half on the calendar scaring me to get my lazy @$$ on the bike and in the pool in the winter.

THanks for posting the link

Its really ashamed if it moves and it may be a death nail for the event.

The real draw for a half in may in central FL is the coupling of Disney and WTC. I read a lot about the run course... frankly it the dang love bugs that are the real issue in may. Those little bugs make for a tough ride

Hmmm, both the spring races I am considering might be changing their courses. New Orleans finish is awesome. If it changes I will rule that one out.

As for Florida, I really wanted Disney but we'll see. If it is not in Disney and at Haines City or Clermont then I'll just do one of the Clermont races for $100 less. I usually do the Clermont Oly in March anyway.

I'll wait and see as neither sells out.

Still nothing on Florida Half Ironman. Grrr! Also no other halves that I want to do that time or later on the Tribiketransport schedule.

I was just daydreaming and looking at the California Half Ironman course starting in Oceanside. Looks so nice... but not in 2012 for me. Maybe later. Hard to get away in March for me with kids in school unless it happens to land on our spring break.

Having a concrete event plan in place would help my lackluster training, I need those goals!

My day in Oceanside was the coldest year of my life. Dang that water is cold.
