Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Ok, so I promise I tried going back into the thread and finding this answer because I'm sure it has come up, but I got lazy after about 5 pages and quit looking.

I was prepared to give up on doing the Wine & Dine and switching to the Princess, but I can't help but want to do the run if we're going to be at WDW anyway. I'd do the 5k, but we don't arrive until Saturday afternoon. (although, I guess that wouldn't work because of packet pick-up. crap. might have to add a night somewhere else)

I'm trying to convince my husband to do the relay with me. I am running a 5k in September (Arlington, VA 9-11 run), so I know bumping up my mileage to do the relay won't be too big of a deal (hoping I am already at that mileage by the 5k, honestly).

Are both legs of the relay "fun", meaning if he insists on doing the 8.x mile leg, am I going to get the more boring leg scenery-wise for the 4.x leg?

Also, do they update the % full the relay is, or does it go by the same % as the half (which is at 60% now).

And one more question. ;) We're staying at Windsor Hills. Our best bet would be to take a taxi to/from the race, correct? Especially since we'll be "sipping" after the race.

If the course is similar to last year's, both legs get the stretch of boring on Osceola Parkway. To me, the longer leg was a little more boring--but it was proportionate, if that makes sense? But even being 'boring' it was still stocked with entertainment, so it wasn't a big deal.

I imagine they update the relay separately from the complete half, because they are different races with differing capacities.

And yes, a taxi would be best--especially if you are going to be sipping. Always err on the side of caution.

What types of entertainment do they have, especially for the 5K?

Thanks!

The longer leg is the one that gets to run through the Streets of America, though, right? (and possibly Osbourne Lights again)

And, I totally realized I sounded like we were even considering sipping & driving. Which, we wouldn't. If one of us was driving (because it would be easier than taking a taxi, which I don't think it would be) only one of us would be sipping. :thumbsup2 But, since I am making it a "date night", we'd both want to sip, so taxi city it is!

Longer leg is DHS, yes.

Of course, the shorter leg has the DELIGHTFUL (please insert sarcasm here) spot where they were cooking something that smelled DELICIOUS (no sarcasm here) on the course.

Last year they had characters, along the course. Some in their Halloween costumes.

When I went through the cooking portion was right after we entered the Studios (on the longer leg).

You are confusing me with "Running Spirit" aka Frank. My time was 3:17

Ah, gotcha.

Anyway, wherever that food was it annoyed the heck out of me. I might have said something nasty to the chef. I definitely said something nasty to the green army men yelling at me not to walk the hill.

I remember the cooking guy just after entering DHS also. Actually I think he was literally just inside the cast member entrance we went in through.

I'm not too sure where they will change the course to get the extra distance at the end to finish in the parking lot instead of the International gateway but I think it will be a combination of shortening the turn around section after AK before making the right turn to DHS and shortening the course though DHS. As nice as it is to do more distance in the park there were way too many turns for that part of the course.

Ash&Wes07 - If you can do the 5K I think you can do the first leg of the relay. It is less than 2 miles further and you get the same perks as doing the half.

I remember it the same way.

And I really hope they'll cut out some of DHS. I remember thinking to myself, "Are we EVER getting out of here?" Although I still loved seeing the Osoborne Lights. :)

I wonder if we'll run through Epcot? Would be cool to have people in the park cheering as we run by.

I appreciate the feedback from you experienced W&D half marathon runners. This will be my first W&D and I am looking forward to see what the course is going to be. More importantly my friend is putting together a great group of runners and cheer squad. Has the course information been released?

There was one in AK. I remember it being pitch black and somewhat smoky near his "grill". I thought it odd that someone was cooking something like BBQ a) during a half marathon and b) in front of all those animals!

Okay, that's just wrong.

I don't remember that. Maybe he wasn't set up when I went through. All I remember in AK are those red light up fangs, there being a few cast members along the course from Africa through the rest of the park.

Of course I can't forget the people at the gates warning us over and over and over and over that there was a speed bump.

The food station on the way to AK was one of the few things I do remember. A LOT of the race is "highway blur" to me now.

I'm with you on that one Frank. Maybe something (someone) grabbed my attention more than a smoking chef?:confused3:confused3

Caution, speed bump ahead. Caution.

I've watched a number of videos on YouTube of CMs cooking along the race route and I was scratching my head at this. I can't think about eating anything (except like Gu Chomps) while running.
