Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

. Although today, I just signed up for the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville and the Heart Half Marathon in Cincinnati. I think I am becoming an addict!! So, welcome to the princess club.princess:

Half Fanatics :thumbsup2

Come join the madness :scared1:

I did Country Music last year in the monsoon. RnR does a great job of organizing and the medals are big and heavy! Nashville's a bit hilly if you're not used to that kinda thing.

So if my pace is under 2:00 for a half, will I be able to get some good pictures in the daylight? Will I be running through the Magic Kingdom when it's light out? I plan on running this more for fun than for time so I want to make sure I can get some great pictures.
Any advice would be appreciated!
:cool1:

disfan11 It's just over 5 miles to MK. Depending on your pace and corral you can figure out your approx. time to MK. Next go to a weather site and find out what time the sun will be getting up that day. We will all be getting up way before the sun.

Last year I was in corral b (6:07 start) and was fine for photos at the MK. My 5k split was 28:28 and my 10K split was 1:01:13. You will out of the MK by the 10K mark and you can tell by my time that I stopped for photos and to hi to my DD waiting for me on Main Street.

Is it ok to break up long runs on occassion? We are going out of town in a couple of weeks ( am supposed to do 12 miles), and there is a 10k I thought I would do so I would have a time to submit for corrall placement. But would it be ok to do 6 miles in the morning and then in the evening? Or would that mess up the training?

Hope everyone has fabulous runs and the weather warms up/ice and snow melt

My friend is basically doing this. She is doing a relay for a half marathon in 2 weeks- so she's doing half. Then she said she is going to go home and walk the other 6 miles she needs to make her "long" run for the week.

I think it's fine- my understanding is that the goal is to get the miles on your legs, feet, etc. You would prefer to do it in one stretch, but I would do your plan if I thought I could get a better 10K time for corral placement for sure. Basically, I don't think it will mess up your training at this point.

GL on the half! :)

Funny I went to bed last night thinking the same thing since my little camera that I was going to bring with me on the run doesn't take great night/dark pictures. But I believe by the time we get to MK (I also have a sub 2) there should be some light out already!

Hi Everyone, I am so excited for my 2nd princess :) !!! YAHOOOO :banana:

Sadly, I am still nursing a healed stress fracture - so my training is off. However my lr to date has been 6 at 1:11, and I am pleased with that of course all on my TM just because of this wonderful snow we have been getting.

I have only been doing 3 runs a week and this week I am hoping to do 4 days like my plan calls for.

I am only adding one mile a week to LR, just to be safe with my shin.

Cheers to all of you who keep on moving!!!

Only 5 more weekends and then it'll be Princess time! So...I guess I need to get my ducks in a row and finish up this training. I'm so glad it's almost here. I've been waiting a year for this!

Hi Princesses,
I wrote something about a meet, but then...found something. Thanks!

Corinna

OK I'm jumping in! I'm so excited for the Princess half!! I will be running alone (booo!). My daughter, 4, will be running the day before and hopefully she and a friend will be waiting for me at the finish line or the family reunion area.

Does anyone know if they need a park ticket to get to the finish line or the family reunion area?

Anyone else training in the Florida Panhandle area - Pensacola? If so, are you guys doing the Double Bridge Run as a training run?

No park ticket needed as you finish well before the park opens but if you want to go into the park afterwards, you will of course need one. You will have fun going to the kids races. They are great! Even though you are running alone, you really aren't. I am sure you will meet some new friends just getting ready for the race to start! Have fun!! :)

Does anyone know of a good place to eat on sat. Nite? Not too expensive but looking for something to make it memorable being I will be at Disney. TIA

So my daughter and friend are good to be at the finish line without a ticket? We've got weekday annual passes, and I was thinking about buying saturday tickets for after the kids race. However, I really don' think I'm going to want to walk the park Sunday after the 1/2! So I didn't want to have to buy them park ticket just for them to come see me finish (and carry me home! LOL).

Oh I know I will make friends, I just like having someone to chat with while I run! LOL

Ugh, so it turns out I have strep throat! Only got in 8 miles last week between the snowstorm and now my throat. At least I got in yesterday evening to the doctor and got started on the Zpac antibiotics. I'm already feeling better and hoping to get out for at least 3 tomorrow to get back on the horse. I should be feeling fairly confident since I run a base of 25 or more miles per week regularly and did a little over 11 last weekend without issues, but still...something about being at this point and missing some major mileage really makes me nervous. Any words of advice from anyone who has had to take a break at this point in training for a half?

As for running with an iPhone: I run with my Android (HTC Evo, it's a big sucker) and I use the Amphipod Smartview Micropack. You clip it on, so you choose where to put it. I like it right in the center of my back. You just need to be sure your running bottoms have a drawstring so you can cinch it tight enough to not pull your pants down. http://www.amphipod.com/products/holders/lock-on-pouches/micropack-smartview/micropack-smartview

Theresa, I'll be on my own too, and likely in the last corral. I'm so excited, I'm sure I'll get to know everyone around me!

As far as the expo (I think you asked on another thread!), I'm not planning to get a skirt or tutu at the expo, I just picked up tulle today at the fabric store to make a quick no-sew tutu and a matching one for my daughter. I'll post a picture when I get it finished.

How are the lines for character pictures for people in the 9 min/mile pace range? When I ran the second half of the wine and dine relay in October the lines were non existent since my SIL practically sprinted the first part and I started with the people running in the upper 7's to low 8's each mile. I heard they were longer as the pace started to increase. Anyone run a similar pace that has some insight?

The skirt I really want I saw in the emporium and at DTD. Is is a skirt made to look like the princesses dresses. They are kids but I think I can pull off the large kid size. They are adorable.

I make tutus and tutu dresses for my daughter but I find the tulle can get itchy and irritating if it rubs on your skin.

What are these pictures with character lines? On the course?

Pix with characters The characters are throughout the race. In the have they start appearing in the MK..well the hunks were around mile 3 and on the opposite side coming back. Lines??? some are longer than others, the first year they were shorter. I run a 9:50 mile started at 6:07 last year and only stopped a couple times.

At the 5k, all over after mile 1. My DD had her pix with about 20 characters in 2 miles and finished under 30 min.

I have the ifitness belt and love it. Mine does not have loops. Mine does not bounce at all. In races, I have seen runners with the spi belt, and it moves around way more than mine. Don't like that. It would drive me crazy.

How are the ifitness belts in the rain/with sweat? I wore my spibelt today and had just dumped by sports beans in these because I didn't want to deal with opening the bags. But it was raining, so they got all sticky since the pouch was soaked. I am worried about putting my cell phone in there if it is going to get that wet.

Thanks-- will sign up for the 10k. So I did the half today as part of my long run. I don't know how all you manage to run in the snow and really cold temps. It was in the mid 50's, windy and raining and I was absolutely miserable; I had little feeling in my hands towards the end of the race. But I finished, and at least know I shouldn't get swept for the princess (knocking on wood)
