Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Let's hear for adjusted goals! Woot Woot! :cheer2: I too had planned on doing the Princess, but came up lame with a stress fracture and couldn't run for the last three months. Since I was able to start some running this week, I too have signed up for the Royal Family 5K and will do the Galloway walk/run method! I am excited, expecially since we get to run through World Showcase. And a medal is a medal, afterall! I do have family and a friend running the Princess without me, but I will certainly be there to cheer them across the finish line.[/Q

That's great MamaCrush! Adjusted goals are still goals! :thumbsup2 I'm excited to run through epcot too! There use to be a time that I couldn't even walk around the world showcase, let alone do a 5k race! I can't wait!!:woohoo:

Great Pic Joan!!:wizard:

Didn't I see this in a Princess 1/2 magazine ad? :thumbsup2:princess:

That pix was taken with my camera so I don't think I'm in an ad, but in the 2010 Princess Program you can see me and my two DD's on the top of page 20. We are at the finish...very cool.

You certainly *could* be!! That's a great picture!

11 miles this morning!

Does anyone else find that their track times are REALLY slow? I usually run at a pretty steady 12min/mi pace. I was 1 minute slow on my 10k last week, and 4 minutes slow on my 10 mile run 2 weeks ago.

But...when I go to my local .28 mile track. my time goes out the window. My 8 mile run was 11 minutes slow, and my 11 miles today was about 19 minutes slow. I don't get it! :confused3

9.5 miles for me today and I'm walking right on track. I'm honestly surprised since I've done basically nothing as far as my short distances during the week. It's been so cold and dark and icky... *sigh* I've got to work on that. But, I felt good to see that I was still feeling good after 9.5 this morning and very likely could have finished the 13 if it had be scheduled (and if I hadn't run out of time!)

I've spent more time today concentrating on what I'm going to WEAR. :rotfl: I'm not usually worried about that sort of thing, but I did wear my new running skirt today just to try it out (I got it months ago and am just now getting around to trying it) and it felt good. I ran it through the wash afterward, so we'll see how it held up. I've got my hat/tiara and now I'm just trying to decide what shirt I want to wear. Of course, the weather will play a part here too. And, I haven't even considered what I'll wear for the 5K the day before!

Such crucial decisions. :lmao:

hey guys! it's been a LOOOONG time since i've been on here. the last i posted was that i couldn't do the princess half due to the ortho surgeon telling me i can't run anymore because of my congenital hip dysplasia :sad1: ANYWAY...through much consideration and changing of my goals...i am now registered and training for the Royal Family 5k :woohoo: i've been walking every week...2 miles twice a week and 3.1 once a week. it is not what i wanted to do (the disney princess) but it is an adjusted goal and i'm really starting to get excited. i told my trainer that i know i'm not suppose to, but i will run across that finish line :yay: who knows, maybe if i work up to it for next year i can walk the disney princess, but i do think that if i tried this year, i would get swept cause i'm not crazy fast and the distance does get to me. i wish all of you luck in this next month or so of training, and i wish i could be joining you all that sunday morning! just think of me on saturday, doing my little 5k! :cheer2:

jess princess:

Glad to see you back on the Boards and back to the race week-end. Participating in the family race is a great way to start. next year we will see among all the Princesses!

Meg

Sounds like everyone is doing a great job training.
I have yet to order my sprakleskirt, but I am thinking about.
And thanks for the tip on the spi belt.

No run for me today, Wind Chil -6 and I am a wimp when its that cold.
I go for 9 tomorrow, even if its on the dreadmill!

Just had to post and say, Joan, I love the pictures. You look so cute and happy. Love the minnie costume.

Can't believe it's getting so close now. I just ordered a sparkleskirt in magenta, and Lisa who I"m running with got one in black. THey look so cute, and it's so fun to plan our outfits.

Disneygirlrn and Mamacrush- Congrats on signing up for the 5k!! You can do it!! That will be so amazing to run around world showcase.

Just a question for those who have done halfs at disney before if you carry a camera. Do you carry it in your hand the whole way, or have a waist pack and put it in and out? It seems I've seen a lot of pics of every mile marker in the trip reports I've read, so i'm wondering if most of you just hold it.

Thanks.

I ran the Disneyland Half with mine in hand and took pictures all over the course and every mile marker and what not. I also usually run with my ipod or iphone in my hand so I just like having something to hold. I also have a belt that is big enough to fit pretty much everything. I had my ID, hotel key, annual pass, phone, and camera in the pouch although my camera and phone were pulled out for pictures or texting updates to my parents and a couple of friends back home.

I did 8 miles tonight, walking and running. I'm sure I can make it ahead of the 16 min/mile sweepers.

I'm trying to figure out what to wear, too. I think I'm doing a tu-tu. I'll likely be carrying my small point and shoot camera, and keep my cell in my spi-belt, so I can find my family when the race is over.

11.36 for me today, luckily I'm in the eastern half of CT and we got less snow than anticipated last night so I was able to get out for some good miles in the winter wonderland!

You guys are motivating me!! I have been using the cold weather and holidays as excuses for being a bum. Last weekend was my first long day (8 miles) since the Myrtle Beach 1/2 Marathon at the end of October.

Since my fellow cold weather dwellers can get out there, so can I. Two hours planned for tomorrrow (distance will depend on the amount of ice on the trails.)

Everyone have a great day and thanks for the motivation!!!

Susan

I bet I haven't posted here since I ran my 1/2 marathon in October. It was my first HM, and it was an amazing experience. Since then, I have had a hard time getting my running mojo back.:confused3 I read here most days and I am getting more and more excited about the Disney Princess.

Good job ladies with your training, you are doing great. It was 0º here today so I ran 7 miles on the treadmill. I lost a week of training last week due to the flu. I am hoping for 8-9 miles on my long run next weekend, and hopefully it will be an outdoor run.

You all are making be think about what I should wear at the race. I have been really thinking about getting some CW-X tights, capri's, or shorts. I would love the compression, and I think it would help my hips. Just need to decide what would be best for me.

Keep up the great work ladies, and happy running!

I went out yesterday for a 8-9 mile run; but my legs just didn't want to cooperate. I ended up doing 4 and taking a long nap. Yesterday was my first day back teaching swim lessons from a 2 week break; I should have known I would be worn out.

I have also started my earch for running clothes to match the idea in my head. Now that Disney is all paid I have to spend my money on something :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for sharing how you carry your camera. I will definitely do a run carrying it and see how that goes. I have heard you shouldn't try anything new on race day, and that is a good idea.

Good luck with all your training.princess:

I did 7 miles yesterday at our rec ctr indoor track - felt like a chipmunk since the track is small. 12 laps = 1 mile, but got it done in a good pace and felt fine. It was snowing here and the wind chill was 4, so making like Chip and Dale inside was my best bet. I do much better on a track, even a small one, than on a treadmill.

Got lucky last week as we were in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl and I was able to run 6 miles along the Mississippi and through the French Quarter. Really awesome!

I am also working on my outfit. Thinking of doing Cindy blue netting over my running shorts and adding a tiara over my ball cap. princess:

I did my 8 miles yesterday and was slightly disappointed that I had to stop and walk every once in a while. But overall, it helped me to see that I will definitely stay above the 16min/mile even if I have to walk sometimes. I'm not nearly as sore today as I thought I'd be.

I've got a Belle tiara that is yellow/gold/burgundy and so I am working on making a no-sew tu-tu to wear over my running shorts. I'm hoping to finish it this week and then I'll post pictures. I might not be a great runner, but at least I'll look good doing it! princess:

Looking good is the main thing :thumbsup2

I'd love to see it, please post pics when its ready!

I agree about looking good! Though I am a red faced sweaty mess when I run!

Its cold here in Atlanta we are supposed to get and ice storm tonight and tomorrow...not happy, but I did get 4.25 in today. It was 22 with a wind chill of 13 which I am so not used to but I did it...though it was really hard. I felt like quitting, but stayed with it. Not my best time, but felt proud of myself at the end that I stuck it out. Hopefully next week for the 10 miler run it will be in the balmy 30's, that I can handle! While I much prefer running outside to on a treadmill, I am so wishing I had access to one but the only place we could put it would in the basement which would be way to depressing to me, so I guess outside I will run.

I need to practice running with my camera in my hand as I def want to record the race in photos!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Feel like a chipmunk?? I don't know about that, but sometimes I do feel as if I am going nuts when I do the indoor track! But it is sooo much better than the dreadmill. I always look at the weather forecast for the week to see if I can squeeze in my long walk on a half way decent day. Otherwise, the track!

I just want to say I am really amazed at how all you working women and moms can manage to get your training in. It is a tribute to you and your support systems that you have the dedication to do this. I waited until I was old and retired before I made the time for myself to take on the training. I commend all women who are training for this event. Most of all, because you are training for yourself. Bravo, Ladies!!:cheer2:
