Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I wanted to do a tour so I picked the Segway around the World at Epcot. I'm doing it on Tues. before I leave. I thought about doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour, but I read that it was a lot of walking. I want to take it easy before the race.

My plan is to tour the parks each day, but to take it easy and not go commando.

I did the Segway a few years ago too and it was soooo fun! You'll love it!

Hey guys! I have been off again and I can't keep up with all the posts! Work is killing me as this is our busy time of the year! (year end reporting!)

Anyway - I am having an outfit made by the WONDERFUL sparkleskirt ladies! I'm so super excited! I have read several reviews of her skirts (outside of this board) and I haven't seen one negative comment. I believe her sizes run true to size but she is super responsive so email her any questions you have!

My skirt is being altered to add more bling and sparkle! :laughing: I will be the last princess you see finish! princess: I'm healing a stress fracture and have been given the go to resume my training only to get hit with strep :sick: but now i'm back in the game again. Being out of the running for almost two months really set me back as I'm overweight and a newbie to this.

Before all my issues, i had finally gotten to a 14 min mile - not great, but it worked for me. Starting over, i'm at about 15 1/2 min mile but I just want to finish! I"m not out to be first.

I will be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside as well! Soooo.... look for the short, chubby, slow girl in her sparkleskirt and tiara and that will be me!!

I can't wait to meet you all! I'm soooooo excited!

(we are doing the kids races the day before also.... DS (5))

We LOVED the Segway Tour!! We were thinking of doing it again during this trip for the Princess but last time we did it my mom was with us to wattch our kids and it's not worth it for us to pay for childcare to do it a second time. You will love it though...so fun to go into World Showcase when it is empty and the Segway itself is a blast! Enjoy :goodvibes

I got hit with a stress fracture (in my pelvis) this past fall and was out until December. I am now back into training, but I still feel it with every step (Dr says this is normal). Good luck and take it easy. You'll do great no matter what the clock says!

I'm staying at French Quarter with my mom (62 and her first time at WDW). No sparkle skirt, but I'll be decked out in Pink!

Tell us more about the custom costume! Which princess?

I am going as Aurora (sleeping beauty...which I found oddly appropriate!) :rotfl:

I was doing the full blown outfit prior to my injury but given the injury and my set backs, i scaled back the outfit - HOWEVER, 2012 watch out because I will be going big! :banana:

I will have a silver tiara with pink rhinestones and a matching necklace. My sparkleskirt will be a bright pink sequin, with a silver sequin strip inset on the side and lace around the hem. She is using one of my current running shirts and applying a glittery tiara with the saying "No sleep for this beauty! Gotta run 13.1!"

Next year, the shirt will be replaced with a lace up pink bodice, white collar and capped sleeves! (lace up to allow for all the weight I will be losing over the next year!)

I currently wear special shin splint sleeves with this velcro to help with the stress fracture and to prevent issues down the road, but they are not cute at all... SOOOO, I might see if i can find a way to "bedazzle" them before I get there! :laughing:

My husband thinks I have lost my mind, especially, since I'm doing this on my own but I have 4 boys, so there is NOTHING girly in my house....soooooo this is my chance to be a princess and hopefully make some other people smile or laugh.... :rotfl2:

First of all, I think that is so awesome you will be there with your mother. My mom never made it to WDW and passed away 5 years ago, but I know she will be there in spirit! :cloud9:

The stress fracture thing has me so paranoid. I keep feeling like I feel something too so I have been really listening to my body. I would rather get hurt down there trying than hurt myself before I even leave for Florida!

I will be the tall, chubby, slow girl! :)

I am right there with you on the lack of training due to the stress fracture. We can definitely find each other at some point in the weekend so that you can have company (if you want it!).

LOVE this...hope she finds it to be pure magic! And getting to see her daughter run a race there...priceless!!

Enjoy your time together :)

~~~Jennifer~~~
Thank you so much. I'm so excited to give her this weekend. My kids think it's a great idea (secretly they are hoping that I break her in to all things Disney so she will want to go back with us another time). :laughing:
I planned on finding you!!! :banana: Especially since I missed our meeting in Baltimore!
I'm so sorry about your mom. As you run thru the park just picture her looking down on you from above the castle and cheering you on!!
I'm not new to stress fractures. I have weak bones (Osteopenia), so I am prone to them. I ran a marathon 2 yrs ago, and then 1 month later had bad pain in my heel (made me really limp and not want to stand on it at all). Turned out to be a calcaneous stress fracture (heel fracture). Running was out for a good 7 months. Started a pretty impressive vitamin regimen (impressive in $ spent on them all:headache:) and then began running again. 1 year after resuming running, I had a REALLY sharp pain in my pevis while on a downhill slope during a run. I listened to my body and stopped running immediately. Lo and behold, I had another stress fracture. This one was in my pelvis, but since I caught it very early on, I was allowed to resume running only 5 weeks later. So, now, here I am. Yes, I still feel it and yes, my hips aren't the hips of a 20 yr old (or a 30 yr old either)...but, by golly, I'm going to get all decked out in pink and enjoy the first mom/daughter weekend we've ever been on!!!
You'll see us- I'll be in pink and my mom will be wearing a yellow tiara bedecked visor (she doesn't know this yet, though ;)) !!
Send me your prayers, thoughts, good health MOJO...I am going to the sports med doc on Monday about my heel....fairly certain its Plantar Faciitis as I had it in my other foot last year. I am so glad they were able to see me so soon, and will feel so much better about things with a plan. I am so worried he will say "you can't do it", but I am willing to walk if need be. I WANT MY GIRLS WEEKEND and MY MEDAL! I was so stupid I think to run 10 miles after a week off of running...live and learn princesses!
I am so loving this talk about everyone's outfits, I need to get a hat to put my snow white bow on...and perhaps I will also pimp it out with a tiara....overkill much? You all inspire me so much, this is going to be one FUN race!
I will let you know how the appt goes on monday. I guess I will do a very slow 3 miles this weekend on a flat gravel path just to get my training in, and I know I don't need to overdo it. My heel was very sore last night after the run yesterday morning....it was SO tight this morning GRRRR. I guess I will rest up tomorrow and do the run Sunday.
Stay sparkly princesses!
With all this talk about outfits, I wanted to make sure you've all seen www.runningprincess.com.
I'm not doing the costume thing but have worn their standard Running Princess visor the last two years and they are bringing a new visor this year to the Princess Expo. It is white with silver embroidered tiara and you can choose rhghinestones to add at the Expo. I e-mailed them yesterday to see if I could pre-order. She indicated that wasn't possible but that there would be plenty. I have to run with a visor or hat because I sweat so much and I need to keep it out of my eyes. The visors are Headsweats and are fabulous!
Just thought I'd share for those who want to have bling with more functionality. I am just loving all the costume ideas!!
Getting excited :banana::banana::banana: !!!
I've been on their website before, but have not ordered anything...thanks for sharing about the new visor...I will definitley be picking one of those up at the Expo...sooooo cute!
Hello, ladies. I have been following along but not posting much. Several of you have mentioned a waiver. What is it, and am I supposed to have one?
I did get an email from Disney about the race, but I didn't see anything about a waiver.
Thanks!
I LOVE visors- I wear my Longhorns one every time I go out. But I wanted a Tiara. Ta-da! Thanks for the heads up- I get there Friday and plan to snag one of these for the weekend. I love it! Super cute.
They haven't sent the waivers yet...I believe the website says to expect them approximately one month before the event. It's just a form that you have to sign and turn in at packet pick-up...I think it just basically releases Disney from liability should you injure yourself during the race, etc, stuff like that. There will also be computer stations and printers at the Expo for you to print them out and sign if you forget to bring yours with you.
I know this may sound silly, but I had a bout with side stitches back during one of my first attempts at running. Shortly after, I read an article that said you should breathe almost like you are breathing for child birth. Sure enough, I tried it and it worked! I tried taking deeper breaths, like your husband suggested, but most of the time when I have side stiches, I'm usually pretty winded, so it's hard for me to breathe deep. I've also found that when it gets hard for me to take a deep breath, that I can make myself do it by yawning!
Doesn't sound silly at all! Actually sounds like what Hubby actually told me to do. Agreed, when you're in the stitch-phase slow, deep breaths are not in the cards:rotfl2:
Hubby and I are now officially registered for the Disneyland Half, too! I am so excited.:banana:
We thought about waiting till the Princess and trying to register at the Expo, but that would be after the rate increase, so.... I feel even better about this now that I've read on here there's no guarantee you'll be able to reigster at the Expo!
I'll be running around town tonite to find bling-y iron-on transfers and shirts to decorate:dance3:--and then running 10 miles tomorrow. Think I'll use the bling session as my post-run reward. I love a DIY weekend!
GL on your runs this weekend! Hope everyone runs light and easy!
