My arches are a little high, but not too high. Anyway, regular running shoes are not good enough. I have foot pain after a long day.

A foot doctor gave me these hard white inserts that cover my heel and arch area. They make me taller, which I like, but if I start running fast, the shoe wants to fly off.

Regular jogging is fine and I don't have that foot pain anymore. Now, I am wondering if I should go to the Sports Medicine doctor to see if there is something better.

I massage my own feet everyday. That would really help that plantar facistis thing.

What kind of massage do you buy at the spa. THey all have different names. I had a massage once, and it was terrible. She just rubbed my arms and legs, pushing the blood around. Very uncomfortable and gave me a headache.

I like those karate chops to my legs that my dh gives me. I feel great the next day and ready to run again! Is there a name for that?

Seems like everyone likes the Swan hotel? I don't know which hotels provide the ride to the race.

I got my foam roller at a specialty running store. I didn't see them at Dicks, but I like going to the running store because they were able to show me how to use it properly whereas it is rare to find someone that really knows about running at a big box store...except for REI. It is painful to use when you have an injury but the foam roller does work.

I don't know what benefit going over the amount of mileage really has...Jeff Galloway told me that I should look at going a little bit extra because by the 10 mile mark, I usually get bored. So, I am adding a bit of distance to the Hal Higdon plan for the WDW Marathon and we will see how it goes. Ultimately, the best benefit for me has been doing the intervals - I like 30 seconds/30 seconds but have been trying even intervals during my training this time and it keeps me challenged. I look at my Nike+ Sportband and like the equal intervals so that I don't lose track. I have decided that I don't want to be one of the many people with the beepers on the course telling me to change intervals. It was actually pretty annoying at the DL half.

As far as tapering, the Hal Higdon program includes that. So, just stick to it. It is a break with short simple runs and then no running at all that you take the week of the race so that your body recovers and everything is ready for the pounding during race day.

With Charlie Horses, you may really need to watch your hydration, electrolytes, and if you are drinking a recovery beverage after your workout. Balancing my fluid intake as recommended by Coach so that I was just right as far as hydration, and following each workout with chocolate milk has helped a ton. I can't tell you the last time I had a charlie horse.

Thanks for the tips. I added a 15 mile run to the Hal Higdon, but I will just have to wait and see how I feel.
I get bored too, at mile 10 and 11 and have walked and talked to people. It really sucked up some time, but it made the total experience a better one. I'll just have to make my talks shorter this time.

I have seen people run one minute, walk one minute for the whole race. I felt like it was wasting time for me. So, I ran up until mile 10. Then, I tried that one minute walk, one minute run thing. I liked it. I also find that I have to do my inhaler at the beginning of the race and again at mile 10.

I love chocolate milk and I put a little protein powder in there as well. I think I have to sit down and make a schedule and menu plan as well as the running plan.

I fell off my diet yesterday and ate ice cream three times yesterday (6 scoops). When it's in the house, I go crazy. No more ice cream until after the race, that's for sure!

Seems like everyone likes the Swan hotel? I don't know which hotels provide the ride to the race.

Here's a list of the host resorts:

All Star Sports
All Star Music
All Star Movies
Port Orleans Riverside
Port Orleans French Quarter
Caribbean Beach
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Old Key West
Polynesian

The Swan is a nice resort if you have a car, or plan on taking a cab to the starting line. Because there aren't any EPCOT resorts on the list of host hotels, it's really inconvenient otherwise.

Thank you! I just copied and pasted it to an email sent to my dh at work!
I think he likes the hotels that provide transportation to the race. I like any hotel that will give me a massage. lol

I am curious about your name room 317. Is that the room # you are staying in this year? I wish we all could meet each other at the race, but I guess there will be thousands there.

Jeannekay Closer to the race day a meet and greet will be set up. Ususally the night before at a resort.
I've had a great massage at Animal Kingdom.

I didn't think I was going to like AKL, but I fell in love. :lovestruc

I might not be able to tear my boyfriend away from the Grand Floridian, but I really want to stay at AKL again.

Yeah! If I have to sit around and do nothing Saturday, I'd rather be watching for animals at the Kingdom.

Is the pool open that time of year??? Son wants to know.

I think I might like the Floridian better. The food is more to my liking and I love the way it's decorated! WOW!

Oh! Hot tub at Animal Kingdom and a massage and transportation to the race! I could always order mac & cheese and fruit.

AKL...we stayed at the Jamba house. Yes, the pool will be open and the food at Bama-think that's what it is called si wonderful.
The animals are amazing. There is also kid and adult activities. I did a bead thing as my guys were playing golf.

i still haven't heard from my friend. i actually went ahead and canceled her flight (i used our miles for it). it cost $150 to cancel and get the miles back.

so basically she owes me the race entry and the $150. i'm so mad. look, i know she's going through alot of stuff but she should at least contact me to say, "hey sorry, i just can't do this and i can't pay for it." oh and she blocked me from viewing her wall on facebook! what!!??? i'm so hurt. i've been there for her for so long and through so much. and this is what i get?

and now to the foot: i have my sports doc appt on tuesday and i'm so hopeful that he'll be able to give me a good plan to get me running. this whole friend situation makes me want to run even harder and stronger. if i have to do this thing by myself i'm going to make the most of it.

i took my little guy to the zoo today and wore dansko clogs. i figured those might help the foot. it felt ok i guess. not great.

Does anyone have website for the discounted park tickets? I have the password, but I don't know where to go to buy them!
Or do you know how much of a discount we get?

The Karate Chops are called Tapotement (you can google it!)
:)
You can always ask your Massage Therapist to include it in their treatment if that's what you like... ta-POTE-e-ment is how you pronounce it. I'm sorry that your first massage experience wasn't a good one!

I'm DEFINITELY signing up for a massage after the race - it's my one must do (as I'm an LMT and know how important it is!!!)

This can be a great learning experience. My boys are pretty much grown now, but I always taught them to be cautious of loaning money, and to be good and honorable themselves. You can teach your son someday too.

I was wondering if there are any Disney Princess beads/charms for a Pandora bracelet? There are plain 13.1's out there from Inspired Endurance, but I was looking for a Disney one.

Wow! Thanks for the education! :) I wrote it down! I sure hate to waste money on an expensive massage, so I needed to know what to ask for. Thanks:flower3:

I called my radio station in Detroit DVD96.3 and found out that 105.1 FM in Orlando Florida plays some really good songs that I like. The popular hits, not rap and not country. I am tiring of my ipod songs, so hopefully this station is upbeat and fun.

Tell me if I am wrong. I am just going by what the radio guy said.

I think I am going for a Swedish Massage. I booked at the Swan because I get an incredible rate since I have family that works for starwood...its cheaper for me than a value resort. Sure no transportation, but I will take a heavenly bed any day and a cab to the starting line and with shuttle to/from the airport, still cheaper for me than value...can't beat that!

As for Plantar Faciitis, been dealing with that since May. Its def better these days. I put Superfeet orthotics in my running shoes, the pink ones. Great support and no issues when I am running. I got these based on reviews and recs from another friend with PF.

A friend of mine works selling Physical Therapy equipment and gave me some orthotics called Vasyli+ Dananbarg which I put in my everyday shoes. I showed them to my Podiatrist and he told me they were as good as more expensive custom orthotics he could make me. Because my arch was good, he had not recomended the customer orthotics, but he told me it was a good idea to have them in my shoes.

I only wear my Sneakers - New Balance 800 series or higher, Birkenstocks, Crocs (around the house) or Dansko Clogs I just got....LOVE THESE! I am a preschool teacher on my feet all morning, and I can't wear anything else or foot starts to hurt. I went to a running store and based on how I run, got Ascics 2150 which are fine. Again, I have nor arch or pronation issues, so not a shoe for everyone, but work for me.

I bought a ball with nubs on it to massage my feet when I am just sitting around. I also try to ice my foot after every run, though not always do I have the time. I am religious about stretching out after I run ESP my calf muscles. I also got this Pro Stretch Thing from my friend and try to use it at least once a day as the instructions go. It REALLY helps stretching out the foot and calf. I noticed if I pay attention to my calf, that seems to help the foot.

Anyhoo, I am no doctor, but thought I would share what works for me. Praying my foot holds out for the race. It is def better than it was. I am also being very careful in my training to make sure I don't over do it and I only run 3 times a week so i can rest up.

I am thinking of getting a foam roller next....yeah, I have alot of stuff, but have learned I need to take care of things. Getting older stinks! :goodvibes

Best o f luck with your training!
