Whoo hoo, I can't wait to hear ALL about it!:)
I would wish you luck, but you don't need it. The training is all there. Enjoy yourself! Take it easy when you need to, kick hard when it feels good. Be kind to other runners, and smile when you cross the finish line.

Ditto to what Amy said. That was VERY well said. I will take that advice in a couple weeks.

I can't believe I forgot the most race day tips:

If you think you're not thirsty, you are.
If you think you don't have to port-a-potty before race, you do.
If you think you can get away without sunscreen/visor/knee brace/whatever, just because it's race day, wear it anyway.

Out of curosity has anone or does anyone plan to run with a water bottle during race? I know there is water stations and all, but honestly during my training, I take a sip of water here and there when needed. As well as pooring a little on the back of my neck and head to cool me down, it always refreshes me as weird as it sounds, and wakes me up and gives me that extra energy needed from the cool down.
I almost ALWAYS start a long race with a water or sport drink bottle. Many races spread the aid stations out further in the early miles then bring them closer in the later miles. For me it’s a way to lightly hydrate while waiting for the start then to get me through part of the race. Only once (Disney 2007) have I ever refilled a bottle during a race. On the Disney races I will have tossed the bottle before MK.

Actually, for many on this forum Rule # 1 is WAY too old school. One should understand hydration needs through training and only hydrate per their needs during a race. Hyponatremia is an all too common occurrence in marathoning women who may be slower than the midpoint of the race and hmmmm overweight (did not know how to say that). It’s not just the population listed but this is the higher percentage grouping. Clinically, hyponatremia is low blood sodium. In a race situation it is drinking way too much even if not thirsty. It presents itself in a triage or emergency situation with the same symptoms as dehydration.

So understand you hydration needs and try to stay within the range you determine through training. How? Weigh yourself pre-dressing for a run. Then dress (duh) and head out for your run. Note how much you drink during the run. Ideally the run will last at least an hour. Once back in, before urinating or drinking post run, head to the scale, disrobe and towel off and reweight. If you hydrated perfectly you will weigh the same. If you weigh more, you over hydrated; less means under. If you weight is off more than a couple pounds it is a good idea to try to revise your hydration. Water weighs about 8.5 pound per gallon; but let’s use 8 since that is simpler. If you lost 2 pounds during an hour long run then you did not take in 2/8 pounds of water (or roughly a quart) that was lost through sweating. That means you should have taken in an additional 8 ounces of water every 15 minutes of the run.

I would agree somewhat with the portapotty rule pre-race. But if one wees within 30 minutes of the race and then needs to go once the gun is fired - more than likely the urge is nerve related. Just run

Hi all,
I just wanted to post about my long run.
I did 7 miles. That is the most I have even done. I know alot of you are way past that, but this is a big deal for me.
I do take a water bottle with me in my fanny pack. I also used Jelly Beans Sport Beans today (for the first time) I only use one pack for my hour and 37 mins and I do think they helped me in the way of not feeling spent when I was done. Last week when I did 6 miles, I came in feeling gross and starved and spent.
I am having so knee trouble so I am going to take it easy.
My first big race before the princess is a 15K in the begining of November.

Thanks for lettling me share all of the about!

Jeter~Congrats on the 8 miles. You DID it, that's great!:woohoo:

My training program only took me to 10 miles too. I tweaked it a little and ran my 12 last week. This weekend I think I only run 8, I have to look. Just 2 weeks til my half, yikes......

Jeter-- 8 miles is great! Congrata

Good luck! I cannot wait to hear about your race.

Perfect advice; I love it!

I finished my first 5k today. It was exhilarating and nerve-wracking at the same time. I learned a lot about how to train better and now the Princess Half doesn't seem so far out of reach.

Yay for your first 5K. There is something truly exhilarating about completing that first one.

Yay for you-- 7 miles is a big deal. You are moving right along; that's so great. I hope your knee feels better soon.

I am definitely running with my Amphipod belt as that is how I train and it works so well for me. Why take the chance if water becomes scarce towards the end of races? I have seen that happen.

How do you like your amphipod? I have a Nathan's handheld which I like for my shorter runs. But the bottle sweats and my hand starts to hurt from holding it for my longer runs.

I was sick all of this week and couldn't work out at all. Luckily I was only planning on doing 3 miles this weekend so I was still able to accomplish that. But it was hard because I am still congested and it made breathing a little more difficult. After a week of feeling miserable, I finally succumbed and started some antibiotics so hopefully I will start to feel better soon. And it's a little discouraging, esp since I did 5 miles last week and went faster and did better.

I LOVE my Amphipod and its ready to go for my HM tomorrow. I like the fact that its the only belt you put the bolltes either horizontal or vertically and you can move the bottle holders anywhere on the belt. I also have a Nathan QuikDraw Plus (Komens pink of course) that I carry on my everyday shorter runs. i tried it during the longer long runs and my arms became tired.
