Do the buses keep running all morning? If our fam does not want to come with us at 4am...just want to be sure they can get there for the finish!

The buses stop around 5 to 7am...per this year program. This is due to road closures and race start. Depending on your race pace and corral, will determine if they will make it to the finish line to see you finish.

I'm toying with the idea of walking a half-marathon in November as part of my training for the Princess Half. I know that different strategies are employed for walking instead of running but my reason for this is my concern that I won't have the endurance in February with my current training.

I do best with short goals and truly, just my training schedule stating that I should run 6 miles today means nothing. On the other hand, the 10k race that I've signed up for next month will keep me training, without fail, no matter the distance. I'm thinking a half marathon that I can walk 100% will go a long way in making me more confident about the Princess. Maybe I'm over thinking it. What do you think?

Have you tried the Hal Higdon Walking Half Marathon schedule? It is a lot more doable than the plan that you appear to be on. If you can work your way up to the 4 mph setting on a treadmill and complete each milestone with Hal's plan on it, you will have no problem beating the threshold and will do well at the Princess. But, if you aren't prepared, it is better to sit it out. It isn't worth the injury risks. But, most of all, this isn't a race that you want to change your mind with IMO. Just the fact that it is an expensive race by itself (not including tickets, hotel, gas, airfare, etc.) if you aren't truly dedicated to giving 110%, you won't enjoy it. There is nothing wrong with moving your goal to the 2012 race. I can't stress enough how important it is to be prepared for any race. It doesn't mean that you are at the front of the pack, but your body needs to be prepared for that wear and tear. It isn't a fun walk for charity where you can take your sweet time. Disney does sweep people who don't meet that 16 min. per mile threshold. They give some leeway, but I saw quite a few people swept when I was making my way back to the hotel from the DL half. I know not everyone can finish, but I know with the money I spend going to these races, there is no other option but to finish.

So, find that motivation, join a run/walk group in your area and keep on schedule. Hal Higdon has some groups, Galloway has some groups and you may even find a local group for the Princess. That was the best thing I ever did for the Princess. Towards the end, I was getting tired, it was colder and I didn't want to freeze. But, the people in my running group pushed me out of bed, got me to keep following my goals and I finished the race. Everyone loses motivation at some point, but if you have others going through the same thing, it makes it so much easier!

Just my two cents...go through this thread. You will see so many different levels and different training methods. But, we do have one thing in common. To get that sparkly medal and finish the race! :) You don't need to complete a half marathon before the race. Just get up to at least the 10 mile threshold before the race! You can do it!!

Thanks, Shelby, I appreciate the advice. I have a good training schedule (Galloway), I think it must be nerves. I learned a great deal from the two races I had this month and the results from those races have really focused my training. I'm just worried about a bit of a dry spell during November/December where I don't see any races longer than a 5k that fit my schedule so I'm worried about my determination during the holidays when so much can get in the way of me taking the time to train.

ea45 So I google mapped your location and there are some galloway groups in your area. Where are those girls (the ones on this thread that run with the galloway groups in the Raleigh area)? I think hooking up with one of those groups would help. They have different pace groups...like fast 8mm pace to slower 12-14 mm pace.

If not or you can't join them, I have used Hal Higdon plans and I like then and also there is a link on the runDisney site that has Jeff Gallaway run/walk/run info.

You may find walking a half will help you mentally...but only you know you...so I can't help much there. I can say I have never run more than 10 miles on my training plans for a half and have been fine the day of the race.

I trained to walk the Princess in 2010 because I didn't think I had time to train properly to run it.

Your plan sounds like a good idea to me, actually. Just getting one under your belt will totally help to calm the nerves. Plus, training to walk fast helped me in the last half I did because it hurt too much to run by mile 7, and I had to walk it in.

Here!!

es45, you are more than welcome to join us for any Sat AM run. All visitors are welcome for the first 3 runs, for free. We have a base of 10 miles each week.

Also, which 10K are you doing? I might be interested. :)

Congratulations!! It is fun, isn't it?? It also becomes addictive! You always start looking for the next race. See you at the Princess!

THANKYOU for that! We would have been in trouble just waiting and waiting! Is driving to Epcot a posibility?

Thanks, HockeyKat, I'll look up your your group after football season is through (we have guests who stay over for every NCSU home game). I should be far enough in my training to join you then. As for the half, I was looking at the Rex half marathon held in conjunction with the City of Oaks marathon or the Turkey Trot at Lake Norman later that month.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I just came in from a good run in the rain. It felt great:thumbsup2

Laurie~I read your blog. I really enjoyed reading the details of the race. Wow, what an amazing run. I am so proud of you. It seems only runners really get the emotion that goes along with this.

I will say, I am a bit nervous about my half. On my 8 mile run yesterday, I was tiring at mile 7. For some reason, it was just a hard run, and it was only 8 miles. My ipod wasn't charged, so I had NO music, and that's not a good thing. I found myself wondering what the heck I was doing, trying to train/run a HM. I was telling myself I was too old for this. Then I said, I have committed to these 2 HM, so I will do them, and then I was going to be done, D.O.N.E. done running after the Princess.

Well..........before I knew it, I was online, looking for Turkey Trot 5 miler on Thanksgiving Day, I am running a 5K in December, and even wondered if I should consider run/walking a marathon.:)

Heck, I remember running my first 5K and saying to myself that "this is stupid, and I will NEVER do this again". Never say never, LOL!

I have learned, I can't make any decisions while running. I am excited about my half, and I will do fine. All I have to do is keep putting one foot in front of the other.;)

I am so happy you enjoyed my blog. My hubby actually started crying AGAIN after he read it and then that started me crying LOL.

One thing I have learned that you gain something from each and every run even if they seem to be a failure to you. No run is ever EVER wasted. Please be patient with yourself and above all...TRUST THE PROCESS!

Laurie, GREAT blog entry. I had a lot of the same feelings you did, especially at the wall, which I would prefer never to see again.

I went out and did a very wet 4 miles tonight, which felt good. I've been struggling with an upper respiratory infection, but the medication seems to have kicked in, and I didn't have any issues tonight, other than the pouring rain. Groan.

Hoping to get in another 6 miles on Wednesday, and then maybe a short run around the EPCOT resort area Friday morning, though that seems highly unlikely at this point.

Your Dh knows how important the HM was to you, for it to touch him like that.

My husband has been a tremendous support. He knows I really want this, and encourages me. He will be with my at my HM. I just hope I keep it together at the end.

Don't ya love your Bondi Band? I love how it keeps my hair out of my face. I bought my sister and I one for the Disney Princess, now I am wanting some more with some fun colors in it.
