Okay I was watching the Video of last years event on WDW endurance sports and actually cried. I am so excited I believe it's going to happen!!

I am registered for the race and we are going to book the Poly soon and hope for some discounts to come our way. My plan is let my family sleep in the morning of the run and meet me at the end. Is there a way to track runners during the actual race. I will have my cel as will hubby so I can call. I can also predict my pace to estimate. I know they can also see the runners outside the Poly.

So excited!!!!

I too am SOOOO excited! I saw where you could track runners on the site last year but have not seen it this year either. I would be interested to know that as well, it was a very cool program for phones to track runner by estimated pace. Let us know what kind of deal you get at the Poly, I would also be interested to know if the monorail will be running that early or if we have to take bus to race....Rhonda

I will give that a try!

My cross-training is only twice a week, one elliptical and one ice hockey. I have added Pilates and Yoga once a week each, as well.

I had bad shins during Princess 2010 training, but had done fine with the shin splints in training for the Chicago RnR. However, my left shin KILLED about halfway through the race last weekend.

Today is the first day that I haven't been *really* sore. Unfortunately, this is a week that I am on-site and wandering a hospital for 8-10 hours a day rather than my usual desk job. Not sure if that is hurting or helping the soreness...

The Hal Higdon messages I get during my training say that Hockey and Elliptical are not considered cross training because are not giving your body a break which you should be. It is great that you are doing Yoga and Pilates but maybe just doing those two would help with the shin splints? Regardless, I would ice them everyday when you get home. I had them really bad when I was a Volleyball Player in College. Luckily, I haven't had them at all this time around. I did have them last year when I first started training for the Princess - but once I switched my shoes to the Lunar Glide + they were gone. :)

As far as tracking runners, when you get a bit closer to the date, they have a sign up process that notifies your friends and family. But, they could honestly guess when to be at the finish line based on your pacing.

As my family will likely be at home, I wonder if there is some way for them to track me online? That would be great for my kids {9 & 3} but if not, no biggie.

Thanks for all the great information here! :cheer2:

Is there already a thread for can we start having vetern racers of WDW races start giving us newbies some pointers just about the race itself? Like for example....what time should we head out to the start? Where do we head first when we get there? How is the start layed out? Best place in the corral to try and get? Pre race attire? ANYTHING you can think of that would be helpful....Thank so much

Hate to sound like such a newbie but I am but what are compression sleeves & what are they used for? Are they needed?

Compression sleeves are like knee socks that are feet-less, they act as a tight wrap to keep the shin fibers in place rather than loose which can cause shin splints. For those, like me, who are suffering with shin splints they help me run almost painfree until my shin stops screaming and remembers "we have done this before".

They are great!

Hi NCrunner - I was new to the Princess last year and the best advise I can give you is that Disney gives you a "storybook" which details everything you will need to know about the actual start of the race and the info is online before the event. You maybe able to find it on the site from last year.

If you could find the thread from last years event - you can read info about what people did prior to the run and how things worked out.

That is all I did and things worked out! Just dont stress over the little things, it will all work out........it always does :)

Does anyone have the storybook, pdf file from last year they could share? I have a new laptop so I do not have it from last year.

When the run gets closer, last year it was 3-4 weeks before, their is a link that you can have your family follow you via email and/or text messages. My husband did get the text messages, but it was almost all at once - rather than my actual time of my splits.

However, my gf's hubby got the splits in real time.

Like you my children were glued to their cell phones as was my husband --- I have to admit I did not run with my blackberry so for him to get a text that I finished was a huge relief for him since he was home with the kids in NJ.

I am going to the princess without my family also, this would be great, how do we get the link?

Thanks very much - I am sure they will be happy to hear about that.

The same was true for my hubby. He doesn't get text messages on his phone, so I left him with mine. At one point, he was texting my running partner to tell her that our pace was showing as 17 minutes/mile....he was afraid that we were going to get swept and wanted us to kick it up a notch.

LoL How nice of him ;) That will be something I will have to look into for my dh and kids as they will not be going either. It is kind of cool that it gives that much info too.

This feature worked great when I used it to track my BF running the half earlier this year at WDW in January so I could estimate when to really start to look out for him in the passing crowds, but when I used it last year in DL while he was running the half it didn't work well at all. I got all of the text messages with pace at various points, expected finish, actual finish time, etc. on the elevator back up to our room over an hour after he had crossed the finish line. Fortunately I was able to approximate his finish time to start looking for him at the finish and I found him...I'm hoping it will work out better this year at the half next month at DL.

I know it is a long way from a half marathon but starting slowly ya know, I just decided to enter the local 5K on August 28th. I have some time to register so I thought I would see how I feel and maybe go crazy and do the 10K.
:woohoo:

Congrats! I'm running in my first race ever too...a 5K...next weekend and also thinking about looking for a 10K to try later in the year. Never something that I EVER thought would actually come out of my mouth! :lmao:

I hear you! I NEVER would have thought that I would be running in a race. My husband told me the other night - welcome to the dark side! He thinks it hilarious that all I am talking about is my training schedules and what not. He ran for years & I was SO not interested!

Me too!!:rotfl:
If you find one let me know. I am still looking for a fall 10K. :thumbsup2

At Target today, I bought a little plastic tiara on a hair comb and put it away in my running box. But I am forcing myself to wait until after I have finished the Disneyland half to sign up for next year's Princess. I think I jinxed myself this year by signing up for Princess and DL in hopes of getting the Coast to Coast medal and that's why I got sick.

Okay, it was probably not a jinx. But you can never be too careful, right? ;)

I cannot believe I am saying the crazy things I have been saying either.
Half marathon, 5K, 10K, going for a run...

I don't think you're being too careful. I'm not signing up for the Princess until after Wine & Dine. Of course, mostly because I'm waiting to see what kind of bounceback offer we get in October. :)
