Thanks for asking this question! It is one I have had too...I started back in Jan to be ready for Jan 1/2 Marathon but I have pushed to the Princess now, seems I really am old and slow--lol. I seem to be increasing so slowly its hardly noticeable, on paper anyway! I would be interested in any plans newbies have done....I currently read The Non-Runners Marathon Trainer, my bible for anything running....

Has anyone here actually run a full marathon? I am thinking about doing the WDW Marathon after the Disneyland Half. (It's the medal, always the medal that motivates me!:rotfl:) It is a little less than 18 weeks after the Disneyland Half so I could technically follow a training schedule but is it too ambitious to do a full marathon after only running two half marathons?

It would also be interesting to run the Princess a month later...

Maybe I just need more sleep, because this idea could be a little too crazy! ;)

I think a full marathon in January is doable. My BF is running the DL half and then going right into training for his first full, which will be in January as well. (He's doing the Houston Marathon, which I believe is just a couple of weeks after the WDW full). The DL half this year will only be his thrid half. We both have the same trainer and he talked with her about wanting to train for the Houston full, and she didn't seem to have any reservations that the timing would be too close. I think it all depends on your individual physical condition and how ready you are to fully dedicate to the training. She warned him that training for the full was going to be alot different than his half training, but he's prety dedicated, so I don't think he's going to have any problems getting there. Now, as far as doing the Princess the next month after a full...it seems logical that you should be able to do that, but what do I know?! Maybe the endurance coach that posts here alot can weigh in on that? Good luck with whatever you decide though, what an accomplishment that would be!

How many miles do people usually do on their short run days? I have been trying to do somewhere between 3.5 to 4.5m 2-3days a week, and then one long run. I know I'll have to increase that, but for now I have to get my biking and swimming in too.
I'd be interested to here others schedules especially since most of the plans I have seen are for 12 weeks of training, and we still have 6 months to go. I'm not sure how hard to push my long runs, or if I should just bump them up by a 1/4 to a 1/2 mile per week.
Sorry, this is all new to me.
I'm super excited about registering. It's official.

I am doing the Marathoning for Mortals run/walk program and the short runs go by time, not distance. My short runs have been close to 3 miles right now though. I will have to double check, but I think it is a 14 week pre race program with a couple of weeks post race and I will probably just go through it twice, if I can. I also plan to redo any weeks I feel I need to ie. if I am not able to stick to the intervals for the entire long run I will redo that week before going on to the next week, which of course will effect whether or not I will have time to go through it twice.

I so agree. This for me and about me!!! I am going by myself.
I have never don't anything for just myself, its always about DH or the kids.
I just can't wait for this race to do something I would have NEVER done and to meet amazing women!!!

Me too!! All of it

LoL. As of right now I have no interest in a full marathon, but I know what you mean about the medals. :goodvibes

I am not sure where you are fitness wise, but for me a full and a half marathon in back to back months would be way to much.

When I started out I was doing 2-3 as a weekday run; last winter I was doing 5-6 as the short run during the week. I started a year in advance (to the day lol) using Jeff Galoways half marathon plan as a guide. I increased my distance when I felt my body was ready for the first few months, once the race was closer I paid more attention to the plan and increased distance according to that.
Are you running inside or outside? I can't run inside, so I used mapmyrun to figure out how far I was going.

This is similar to what I am doing. I am following Marathoning for Mortals but I plan to stick with the same week until I feel comfortable enough to add another mile. Once I am 14 weeks out I will switch over and try to follow the plan exactly.

On my short run days, I run 4-6 miles. Long run is going to be 9 as of this weekend. Eeek.

I'm running to HMs this fall, hopefully the Princess Half in February, and maybe the NYC Half in March. Thinking about the Brooklyn Half in May, and then training for the WDW Full Marathon 2012.

That is very nice, Laurie. I saw the pic of your mom and she looked lovely. Cancer just sucks.

I added you Kat.

Are you doing the run program? I haven't looked at that one but it seems a bit ahead of the run/walk one, which is what I am doing.
I feel the same way about sticking with the plan. It just gets very intimidating when you see the mileage getting up there. My next 2 long runs are 4 miles then I go to 5 and I have never done 5 before so that has me nervous.

Me too!! Plus I already have people planning HM they are going to run with me. I keep telling them to let me get through this first one first and then I'll let them know. :rotfl:

Does anyone else do 3 weeks increase in mileage and then one week of lower mileage?

I think it's totally doable. I would consider a full (after 2 halfs) but I have too much in the way to train this fall.

I also think you could do the Princess, too.

However, I would consider the DL Half a "training run" in this endeavor, and the Princess a recovery run, and not try to push it hard on either...

I did when I was training for the Princess. Every 3 weeks I dropped back to 5 miles for a long run. Now that I have a base of a 10 mile long run I just stay there and vary it up and down.

I keep my short runs to 3 miles, too, with some extra for warmup/cooldown walks. The warmup/cooldown (5 min each), combined with pilates/yoga, has really seemed to help with any injury issues. I didn't do either pre-Princess 2010 training and had some problems with shins and hips.

Ok, off to the Chicago RnR expo!

Its such a relief to hear other in the same position! This is for ME< not kids, not sig other....me. Do any of you ever meet up while you are at the race? Seems a shame to do all this talking and sharing and not meet at DW!

There will definitely be a meet! I missed it last year as I was meeting some folks from another thread and we had shoved too many plans into the same weekend, but this year I am going to make it part of my plans to stop by.

I sure hope there is a meet. I would love to meet all of you Ladies, Its is nice to have others to talk to that understand what your doing and why.

I totally agree. It would be so much fun to meet up.

I signed up for my first 5k next weekend :cool1: I have been doing about 3.5 miles right now as my weekday runs and am doing my first 4 mile run tomorrow so I think I will be ready for next weekend. I am on call next weekend so am going to have to carry my phone with me; I figure this will affect my time ( or at least I am using it as an excuse for a poor time :) ). But my goal for this one is just to see what the race environment is like . I will also need to go buy one of those spi belts so I can carry my phone and keys.

And based on how that goes, hopefully I will have the courage to go ahead and just sign up for the disney princess. I am starting the planning for it and even asked for the time off already. Just need to take the plunge.

What is sparkpeople?

Sparkpeople is an online website for people to help with weight management. It has a food and nutrtion tracker, great forums, blogs, and articles to help with weight loss and overall fitness. And it's free!

I am mom2girl2 on there- Have to go and add everyone now

Thanks for all the replies on your training. I think I may just start on working my long runs up and then try to hold at around 8-10m until I get closer to the race. I'll probably try to get an 11 or 12m in as it gets closer.
I read Marathons for Mortals but wasn't sure how to make the training work when you're 7 months out instead of 14 weeks out. Seems silly to have a long run of 2-3 miles when you're already beyond that.

I agree with doing this for ME. I have never taken a vacation w/o dh and the kids. Dh and I are going to WDW over MLK alone too since I have a conference that weekend. It will be so strange to be there two times in a row w/o the kids. At least we have a trip planned for Nov '11 for dd2 and dd3s b-days. They have been there enough that I'm not going to feel guilty for taking time out to train for and run the Princess. What a great weekend it's going to be!

Is there any Princesses going solo? Been chatting with Vicky and there are a few of us considering it.

I have done disney minus the family for the first Princesses weekend and we had a blast.

Hello everyone! I'm a long-time lurker first-time poster who decided to run the Princess half a few months ago. I started running around May as a 'I should probably do something to keep me active' kind of thing. However, I severely lack in the motivation department, so when I read a review of someone's 2010 Princess run, I decided that would be my motivation to keep running. I've learned the HUGE difference good running shoes can make, that I love shorts with built in undies, and that I hate the treadmill so much that I can and will run in 90 degree heat with 80 percent humidity at 5am. I've (foolishly) signed up for my first run as a 10k on Labor Day, but I'm already up to 5 miles at a (slightly embarrassing) 15mm pace, so I'm pretty optimistic.

I do have a question for the Droid users. I'm using RunKeeper, but I'm noticing that my GPS is kind of finicky. When the GPS is working, I love it, but sometimes in the middle of my runs, my phone sends me from TN to AL and I end my run with 151 miles... I can't decide if it's my phone or if it's my signal. I'm leaning more towards signal, but it does it when I'm in downtown Nashville too, so I'm at a loss. I'm planning to go to the Verizon store, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same issues.

Thanks again for all your support! I can't wait to run this half!

Krista

DH and I have a trip booked of our 10th anniversary in Dec so I will have back to back trips with no kids too. I am looking forward to it, but it is kind of weird since I think I have only gone on a trip without kids about 4 times since I had dd#1 9 years ago. LoL

I might be going solo too. I wanted my sister to run with me but her husband wont let her go. I was talking to my mom about going to watch me but she keeps pushing me to bring the kids and I guess I am just selfish but I really do not want to mess with hauling 4 kids to Disney for the weekend so I can run. Plus I don't know if they would be too interested in the race and much rather prefer to hit the rides.
I post on a parenting message board that I have been a member of for 6 years (when I was pg w/ #3) and a couple of the ladies from there are going to run it too, but they are sharing a room at a DVC property and I will be staying elsewhere, so I will not really be with them even though we do plan to spend time together over the weekend.
