I need to get somthing better to hold my iphone and anything else I have with me on my runs. I had bought a cheap hydration belt at target. Works great for walking. But running it is awful and just getting worse. I have stopped carrying the water since it annoyed me.

I like the Nike Running Shirts with the pockets in the back. It allows you to listen to your iPod, it also has the loop for your headphones cord - one pocket is for my iPhone/iPod and the other pocket I can put gels in or whatever. Didn't bother me one bit to run that way. The Nike running pants I use have the little pocket in the front to put your housekey or car key. The belts they had for sale at the Expo this year were very tempting but the shirts worked out great.

Definitely get to a running store and spring for a running specific belt so you can stay hydrated! :drinking1 They may cost a little more but I think you'll be surprised at how much better they are. Also, many of them come with pouches built in for phones, keys, ID, etc. or are made to where you can buy individual components (extra bottles, pouches, etc.) and sort of custom build a belt that has what you specifically want and need.

I live in Florida and it has been so humid and hot no matter when I go! I try to go later at night if I am doing street time. If not, it is inside the gym in the ac. I can't wait for fall weather. I am just hoping it is not as cold this winter as last. It was really uncharacteristically cold for awhile this year.

I too live in Florida, so I understand the issue of the lovely weather we have down here. I have done times of day, morning and evenming when the sun is going down.

I prefer early mornings...I try to get my workout in around 6-6:30 but since I'm a teacher when school starts up...I am going to have to be brave and wake up super early and start my runs 4:30 (yikes) probably closer to 5 in the morning.

I have learned its easier in the mornings becasue the humidity and heat isn't too bad, still cool enough....and in the early evening the pavement is still hot from soaking up the heat all day.

I too love the nike running shirts with pockets.....as of right now I use my phone as a stopwatch, as the actual wrist stopwatch's I am not as big of a fan. I stick my phone in the back pocket and its awesome.

Do you use the iPhone? I use the MayMyRun app which announces my pace/distance every half mile (you can set it to whatever you want), so I don't even need to look.

Thats awesome that i-map-my-run is able to tell you without having top look. I have it on my i-touch, howver unlike the i-phone you don't get wireless internet ....wish the i-touch was capable to that. I have that app as a way to log my runs, but would love to use it in its full potential.

I do long runs in a running skirt, which sadly has no pockets. I use the pocket in the fuel belt for keys, gu, and my insurance card/id.

Short runs, I am doing inside right now.

2.5 weeks until my half... I am getting a bit nervous.

Btw, I am LOVING this thread. It's totally feeding my running obsession. :)

I am in! A bunch of my friends and I decided to do this this year- It kind of has been on my bucket list and this is a good time so we are in!
I will take any advice about it all since I am a newbie! I started walking about 3 months ago & do 3 miles every day and resting on the weekends. I want to mix that up a bit.
What nutrition shuld i be concerned about?
I don't really want to run, I prefer walking but will run or rathe job some of it so that I keep my speed up. I do a 15 minute mile now & want to shorten that to 13 minutes.
I need a good sports bra and shoes - who can recommend what?
Thanks for any help!

If you want to friend me on FB- pm me! :cheer2:

I too am a newbie, and from what I have heard, a lot of newbies run this race, which is really nice. I atcually went into my local running store, whjere they were beyond helpfuyl. They fitted me for running shoes and I had them go over the nutrition ( i would highly suggest you do the same.)

Everyhting is really an experiment. You need to try and see what works for you while your tarining. Trial by error I guess. Just make sure you don't try anything new on race day..... I am currently using gels, figurerd I don't want to be chewing while running. The guy at the running store suggested hammer gel, and said it was easy on the stomach. While you take it make sure to take some water afterwards to help it down.

Once again you need to try and see what works for you, perfect time to do so is during training.

Does it do it through your headphones? I might need to look at that one (assuming it's made for Android) instead of RunKeeper... is it a free app?

Yup, through my headphones. It is a free app, although you can upgrade for $5 to a swankier model.

How does the sizing run with the Amphipod? I have a 29" waist and ASSUMING that I would get the small. Sound right?
The belt I got is a one-size. It's got velcro so that you can tighten or loosen accordingly. I tried it on at the local REI to see how I liked it, but ordered from runningwarehouse.com because it was quite a bit cheaper. I got a 4 bottle belt for the same price as the two bottle in the store. It won't let me post a link, but you can search.

Lets talk fuel belts! I am really interested in the Amphipod due to the versatility of moving bottles around. Anyone have experiences with this brand?

I used a Camelbak Delaney Plus belt during the Princess this year and liked it pretty well. It holds a 24 oz. water bottle across your back and a 5 oz. gel bottle on the front. It also has a larger zip compartment on the back along with a smaller one on the front. I only filled the water bottle to about 3/4's full before the race as I wasn't sure if it would be too heavy or not. I actually never even trained with the belt, but my DH talked me into it after I got worried about not having enough water along the route. I was also a little hestitant about the water bottle being on the back, but it worked out well. I'm hoping not to have to wear it next year as I've been training without water so far.

I'm sure this sounds stupid, but do you have any idea what these shirts are called? I was thinking that I'd like to try one on my training runs, but when I looked online just now, I couldn't find any that had pockets. Is there a key phrase or word that I can use to search?

I use Runkeeper. I think the Pro version will announce the pace. I told myself i could upgrade after 2 weeks of training. So I'm halfway there.

I will have to check out a local running store. I got my sneakers at one in the Spring. As well as a really good sports bra.
I guess I will go back and check out the belts, even if I order something online.

If you go to Nike's website and look under apperale for women. Then select running. You can click on some of the shirts and they have multiple views. Some have pockets....they are fabulous.

That is the exact website I am looking at and the prices are very good! I think I am going to go ahead and get the "one size fits all" 4 bottle belt. That way I can use any number of bottles for any given run. I love the flexibility of Amphipod. Thank you so much for the info!!

I'm in. All registered.

What a wealth of information on this thread. I'm new to all this. After 20 years of off/on running only on the TM, I started taking things more seriously in April. My DS13 is on the XC team at school and he needed a running partner to train with. I'm having so much fun. Quality one on one time with DS with the added benefit of getting in shape! I have 4 kids and its hard to spread the attention between them, plus he's started the dreaded teenage thing and its so hard to keep the communication open. Our runs have brought us closer! We've done two 5 K's. He beat me by 5 minutes in May and 2 minutes 7/4. I'm gaining on him!

My SIL is doing the Disney Princess with me. I love that the timing will get us through the winter (despite the cold). Perfect motivation to get me off the couch.

I'm a bit worried that 13 miles might be too ambitious. The most we do now is 4 miles. But, you guys have given me confidence. Based on the comments on this thread, I know we can all do this!

This is the one I have:
http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/?#l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-302313/pgid-283584

The descriptions don't seem to include that information, so you just have to look at the view option to check out the back. I got mine at the Nike Store in Atlanta as I didn't know they even existed. So much better than the arm bands. I loved it during the Princess this year. I didn't ever have to worry about anything falling out either - those pockets keep everything in. That loop is very nice for the earbuds.

Count me in!!!!

Except....I have no idea what I am doing.

I will be 36 years old, and I've never been athletic. Also, I really need to lose 40-60 pounds.

I've been running on the treadmill this past week, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I've been doing 30+ minutes. I'm up to alternating 3 minutes of jogging at 4 mph and 1 minute of walking at 3.8mph. Although sweating buckets, I am not winded, sore or overly tired. DBF and I have been building a rec room for the past 6 months and I think that might be what has increased my fitness level.

Can anyone recommend some resources for beginners? I am hearing that people are reading Marathoning for Mortals. Is that a good start?

Is there a way to combine registration for the 5k and the half marathon? Just wondering if it would make the processing fee any cheaper to combine the two?

I just tried the FIREWORKS code and it said it had expired.
