I did it last year and loved it! Will be doing this one again in 2011~!!

I am DVC so I will be that AKV, flying down on Sat am first flight at 6am and land in Disney by 8 ---- off to the expo then dinner and the half the next morning and fly out on Sunday night.

It is an in and out half for me, but there is never a dull moment!!

Will be doing this with my friend who did it with me last year :)

For those who ran this last year: did anyone of you actually have energy to tour the parks after you finished?

I did the half last year, and you NEVER EVER want to just STOP moving your body will scream the whole time. My suggestion is to keep walking and moving to help the body with all the L-acid it builds up.

After the half, I went and had a massage at the race - then back to the hotel for a shower, packed and walked all of down town disney and hotel hopped as it was my friends first time there.

We kept moving the whole time, until we flew home that night at 10pm. Sitting was the worse for 2.5 hours as my body just ached and became so stiff!

You can do it - and everyone else will be wearing their medal in the parks too :)

I have been doing a lot of reading (more reading than running :rotfl:) about working up to running and a lot of articles say that if you have more than 50lbs to lose (like myself) then you should work your way up to running while losing weight along the way to avoid unnecessary stress to your joints/bones. I have been having a hard time with running on account of my shins getting really sore but I have plenty of time to ease into a running routine. I figure once I have lost about 15lbs I will start trying to run a bit more but for now I am walking and crosstraining on the elliptical.

I have about 70 to lose myself, and my shins used to kill me when I first started the Couch to 5k program, even when walking. The answer? New shoes. I went to a running specialty store (here in Sacramento, it's Fleet Feet) and they fit me for the right kind of shoe for my training. I was put in a pair of Saucony's and what a difference they made. Just a thought for you. Good luck with your training!

My first half is the Wine & Dine in October.. I'm planning on staying at the party for a short time, and then walking to BWI and falling asleep!

I was going to say the same thing. I was having trouble with shin splints and went to a specialty store and got the same brand of shoe. I have only run in them once, but I could feel the difference.

Yes! 6 of the group went straight to breakfast in Epcot, while 3 of us took the car back to BWV and then walked into Epcot to meet the rest.

We did the Princess breakfast in Norway, then toured Epcot until about 1-2PM. Went back to BWV for pool (and beverages ;) ), and then finished the night with dinner on the Boardwalk and some JellyRolls time.

It was the best to wander the parks wearing the medal. Such an awesome weekend.

I kept moving around too. I switch rooms to BLT, then went over to MK for a little while, to a podcast meet-up (non-DIS) at the Cava de Tequila, then went back to my room (since it was finally ready). I took a nice bath, went up to the Top of the World Lounge for dinner and Wishes, then headed back to MK for EMH. I actually walked from BLT to MK. It was a nice and relaxing approach to the day and my body felt fine for drinking around the world on Monday.

I actually prefer to be in Disney for races because then I won't sit down or nap after the race because I want to be in the park!

For those of you who ran it last year do you remember when you were finished and free to go on to do other things? We are leaving on a cruise at 4pm and I am wondering if running this race before hand is reasonable or if it is insanity...

AquaDame doing the race and cruise is doable. Not sure how fast you will be, but if it takes you 3 hours and yo are in the last corral (which started around 6:30-you will be done by 9:30-get a pix, grab your snacks and you could be back in your room by 10ish, shower and off to cruise ( an hours drive from the resort). Hope that helps-others have done it.

Aquadame, Princess HM followed by a Disney cruise...pure bliss. I am so jealous!

:thumbsup2

I agree! I felt great and was so surprised that I was moving around okay - I went to the hotel and took a shower and then went to MK. I was doing so good and then we went on Space Mountain and that was a bad idea. Coupled with going to Liberty Tree Tavern and sitting for the hour and a half left me barely being able to move. :( So, that was wasted park admission. Granted, next time I will take an ice bath afterwards - I just took a cool shower and I think I really should have taken a bit easier. But, that was also my first race and I haven't been nearly as sore since. So, maybe that was the exception rather than the rule. I guess I will find out at Disneyland in September. I hope it will be different because a couple days afterward I have to fly to Paris.

Is there a running log (online) that anyone is currently using, and would recommend?

I actually belong to sparkpeople.com and my running journal is kept there via blogging where I get awesome feedback. That blog even includes my shoe mileage. I also record all of my running via Garmin Training center. Love my Garmin!!!!

Hmm so on sparkle people ca I log my running and pacing info on there? Or more of a blog set up? So new to all of this, but enjoy every miute of learning the things I need to know. I had a whole conversation with someone who runs and he too says he absoluelty loves his Garmin watch too!

Pretty much a great place for blogging. There are some very educated fellow runners there and that is where I have learned so much about safe injury-free running. One fellow Sparker is even a certified running coach.

I have the Garmin Forerunner 305 and I cannot imagine running without it.

I just bought a Garmin Forerunner 305. I wore it on my 2 runs these past 2 days. I LOVE it. When I lost my weight, I lost the padding on my forearm, and I am still trying to find a comfortable spot on my wrist to wear it.

There aren't any running groups/clubs where I live, none of my friends run, so it's me and my new Running Buddy I think it's really going to help pace me. Did I say I LOVE my Garmin!:)

I switch arms wearing it due to the size and leaving a tan mark. I am very fortunate right now to belong to a group with trainers for my half marathon training. I sincerely hope that you can eventually find a group like this. It makes such a difference.

Thanks! so is the garmin watch there rather large? I want to look into a nice watch that will really help me.

Oh this one will help you alright. If I went with the 405, I would not be able to read the numbers since it is a smaller watch. I am in my early 50's and reading close up is a real problem. Totally. Love. My. 305!!!!!
