I'll be down in the World with my partner, but he's not a runner, or a princess, so I'll be running alone, too. I don't think I could run with someone else, if I wanted to. So much of running is mental, to me, and I need to be in my head, thinking about the next mile.

I usually run alone so it doesn't even phase me. I don't think I would like running with anyone as I would worry too much about staying with them and not at my own pace.

I'm exactly the same way. I train alone, and have run a number of races "alone." But you're never alone when running a race, at least not really! I prefer to be at my own pace. Sometimes I catch up with a stranger and chat with them (met some lovely ladies training for Goofy last year during the Army Ten Miler) and then I just continue on "alone."

The responses are very true..you are truly not alone as you will be running with over 10,000 other women and few good men :rotfl2:

Thank you all very much for your comments and feedback! I found it all to be very helpful!

I think I would be ok running the actual race by myself once I got started and am not as worried about that…afterall you are all right, it sounds like there is a lot of support from others and most are very encouraging and friendly. I’m more worried about traveling by myself for the event and not having any friends or family there with me to enjoy time with outside of the race (before or after). I am ok traveling by myself, but am concerned about picking the right resort and transportation, and all of that on my own. :rotfl: I have this fear I'll take the wrong bus or miss it completely or something silly like that! I’m not sure I would want to visit the parks by myself? I hope that makes sense because I think independence is important…I’m just wondering how much I would enjoy some of the other aspects of the weekend without others to enjoy it with? Of course, you're also right that I do have time to make new friends here too... :) Ahh decisions decisions!

There'll be lots of other people from the boards in your same situation. Start a thread and see if anyone wants to stay at the same resort/split a room/go to the parks together.

I would LOVE to go by myself this trip but hubby doesn't want to miss out. Just once, I would love to go to Disney myself just to say I did it.

I am starting to suffer from the opposite problem. I will know TOO many people there!

I did the race last year with 9 women from another WISH thread, 4 of which I had met before at different times. 6 of us stayed in a BWV 2-bed and some variation on the 9 toured the parks together.

At least some if not all are planning on a reprise for 2011.

Also, at least a few from my running club will be going, and I have "met" some others through threads like these, and blogs...

It's a great problem to have, though! I am just amazed at how much support there is out there for running, even when you are in the turtle run/walk category like me. :goodvibes

Poor DH, he gets left at home. However, he is getting a "boys trip" to WDW this year so that will be brownie points for a while.

Since I live locally here in the Ft. Lauderdale area, was thinking of going up saturaday. Does anyone know for dure if you can pick up your registration and numebr on Saturday at the Expo....Or Do you HAVE to pick up on Friday. Trying to book my hotel and just want to make sure before doing so....Thanks!

Yes, you can pick it up on Saturday. That is when most people picked it up this year. The only disadvantage is the variety of merchandise (if you are interested) is more limited.

Thank you for the speedy response.....That makes me feel much better, trying to stay on a budget, and to exhauseted to drive right after work on Friday after teaching a bunch of 5th graders....Thanks a bunch

Yup, I picked mine up Sat afternoon. It wasn't very crowded, either, didn't have to wait more then a few people to pick up my packet.

That's good to know. Right now, we are thinking of taking DD4 with us and have her run the kids dash Saturday morning. So it's good to know the area won't be crowded so we can just pick up the packets that morning if need be.

Piglet24 I am right there with you. This will be my first HM and I am excited and I really want to have people (namely my kids) with me to celebrate and enjoy the parks with. I know that they would be so proud of me. I don't have another adult to travel with me so bringing my kids is hinged on budget and whether or not my friend will be there the same weekend.

On the other hand all of the adults around me are telling me I deserve time for myself so princess weekend would be a good weekend for that. Plus it would help in the budget department to travel alone.

I am so confused:confused3

I know that with this years race, many of the ladies on the thread met up whilst at the parks so you may just find some new friends to run with. :) You never know, there may be someone in your neck of the woods that you can train with. You may end up flying out together. I do agree with some of the adults around you saying that you deserve time to yourself. Your kids will be just as proud to see your medal when you get home. :goodvibes My family at first was going for the full vacation experience and it created so much stress. I finally put my foot down and don't regret keeping it as simple as I did. It was so much easier just having one other person to worry about rather than a group. It was important to take it easy the day before and there is no way I would have if it had turned into a family vacation. That is just me though. I would weigh the pros and cons.

My DH and girls are coming with me. I have been wanting to do a disney half marathon and the princess one just happens to be on the day we were planning on flying home. So the timing is perfect.

How is everyone training? Most of the training programs are designed for much short time period that almost 8 months.

I have already been training for the Disneyland Half in September and will just continue the half marathon training program over and over by Hal Higdon. I am considering going from the Novice Program that I am currently on and working up to the Advanced program. But, there are ladies in my running group that just do the half marathon novice schedule over and over (taking four weeks off after running the half marathon distance to let your body recover)

This is the novice schedule: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm

This is the intermediate schedule:

This is the advanced schedule:

For the ones that want to walk the half - here is another training program:

I love his training programs the best.

Thank you - I like the simple approach. I was thinking of going Friday and coming home Monday, not killing myself to get everything done in the parks. Do some leisurely shopping, that sort of thing. Plus, if I travel solo I can maybe swing a bounceback and take the kids then. I do have a lot to consider!!!

Lisa Joy, I am using a training schedule that Smart Coach on runnersworld.com spit out after I plugged in my last 5k time. I LOVE IT and it is perfect. I am also using it in conjunction with a local training group. I am on top of the world!!!

My hubby and I are flying down Thursday and leaving Tuesday so we are taking it at a leisurely pace. So excited! Please refer to my tickers...this is Disney year for us so we are getting AP's and making the most of them.
