Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Has anyone received an update email recently? I haven't gotten one in along time, and want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

Not yet. Hoping for one soon about RunTracker so my DP can get my times texted to him at home in Michigan.

So excited! We had already booked Blue Bayou for the night of the half marathon. I just booked World of Color with preferred viewing for lunch at Wine Country Trattoria on Fri 9/2. We are mapping out our weekend, and we know it will fly by! 5 play days for DH and I...it will feel strange without our DD, but great for the 2 of us.

I did that World of Color package last time too and loved it - the menu was wonderful. Just wear a jacket because you will get wet! :) We did Blue Bayou for lunch the same day and weren't nearly as impressed. But, it was a neat experience. The food just isn't as great. You may want to consider Napa Rose, it is my favorite!!

Maybe training in the heat will be a good thing, kind of like training in high altitude running at sea level. Your body will be so used to training in the heat, it'll eat up the cooler weather and you'll have a PR race!

Training in the heat and/or high altitude is a long time proven way of improving performance capabilities. Many professionals make it a point to travel to locations that will guaranty these conditions exist.

Because of son's temporary duty reassignment, I am currently in El Paso caring for my 2 grandsons. I have gone from 90+ degree high humidity sea level conditions in SW Fl. to over 4,000' Franklin Mountain area with temps in 100 range, low humidity and finding it much more enjoyable.

You will be slower during training and that is only natural but do not fear about your upcoming performance in 11 days. Conditions should be a breath of fresh air, at least I hope Sunday will be. :lmao:

DW will fly out next Thursday, we drive 12 hours Friday to DL, all 4 of us hit DL Saturday, DW and I race Sunday for our C2C Medal then hit DL again, drive 12 hours back Monday and DW is back on plane Tuesday AM. Now if that isn't going to be a fun weekend I don't know what could be.

I did the World of Color package as well last year and I will be eating at the same restaurant (the Italian one at DCA) the night before. The night after the race we went to Steakhouse 55. It was good food, not such great service, but that can change depending on who you have I'm sure.

I love Napa Rose as well, but it can get quite pricey so just watch that. I wasn't impressed that much with Blue Bayou either, and the short ribs I had were pretty rich.

Another good breakfast place is the Carnation Cafe on Mainstreet. I absolutely love it and will probably be eating there after the race! They have cinnamon roll french toast which is amazing... although I also had their scrambled eggs plate and that was good too. I know they have lunch options as well, but I haven't been there for lunch yet. I kinda miss the Carnation Cafe now that I'm at WDW more... I wish they'd make something similar to it at MK.

We're having dinner at Wine Coutry Trattoria the night before the race too :) Last year we stopped at the little wine bar just outside of the restaraunt for a while and enjoyed some wine and snacks, but didn't get a chance to eat a meal there, so I'm looking forward to it! WOW...cinnamon roll french toast sounds awesome! We just planned on going back to our hotel and ordering room service for breakfast like we did last year, but I might have to see if I can persuade the BF to try that instead.

I had thought about wearing a special race outfit but decided against it. I had thought about having this picture transferred to a tech shirt with the caption 2003 375lb - Today 13.1 miles. but was worried about how well it would transfer, and if a large transfer would bother me during the race.

I've been thinking about doing the WOC picnic on Tuesday. There's only one WOC show and I'm planning on starting the day at DL then hopping over to DCA mid afternoon.

Are you going to the 9 or 10:15 show? I have tix for the 9pm show! I have lunchbox picnic reservations, that way I could have some snacks for the room.

After reading all these posts I think I will do my Minnie outfit! Nothing fancy - just a Minnie polka dot skirt my sister made me that goes right over my running shorts, a white racing tank (think black will be too hot) and a Minnie polka dot headband. I wore it for the Minnie races in 2006-2008, so I know it is very comfy.

And the cinnamon roll french toast pieces are huge... I promise you, you will not leave that breakfast hungry. Luckily, my mom already loves the french toast and my dad changes a lot (parfait, regular cinnamon bun to share (they're extra huge), scrambled plate... so man choices).

Ya, Wine Country is really good. Went there last year and a few tines when we were just in the park regularly. Definitely going to be a good dinner :goodvibes

On the Disney Park Blog, they had the Jeff Galloway would be hosting an expo preview on Friday. Additional information can be found Here

Am I having a case of the Friday stupids or do they neglect to tell you what deems you to be a 'qualified participant'?

They are pretty vague about what a qualified participant is. I'm flying in on Saturday so I can't do it.

I arrive late Friday Morning, otherwise I'd send in an RSVP just for grins. I met and chatted a bit with Jeff last year during a special dinner in the Great Movie Ride. He is a really nice, down to earth, knowledgeable, normal guy.

I figure they would require the qualifier to be a participant in the DL Half. They will verify entry into the race.

I got in :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Looks like we get a free shirt plus:

This unique event is to include a meet up and Q&A with runDisney’s official training consultant, Jeff Galloway, where he’ll offer tips and suggestions to benefit all levels of runners. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to gain one-on-one training advice from Galloway, along with a photo opportunity with Galloway and a Disney character (make sure and bring your camera!), and a chance to preview the runDisney portion of Expo prior to general admission.

Glad we are getting to DL so early :thumbsup2

Congrats on getting in! It sounds like a fun opportunity.

Checked weather, albeit 10 days out, and Sunday is listed as 78 and party cloudy!!

Hope everyone's weather back east turns out well and everyone is safe!!

Ummm - YES! Cinnamon Roll French Toast?! SOOOOOOooooo in!! :)

Do you have to buy a park ticket to go? OR, will they let you in after the run? Sounds like an AWESOME treat, post half marathon!! :)

I don't believe you get a ticket for running, so yes, you would have to buy a park ticket. The restaurant is on Main Street, so inside the parks.

Hi all

Anyone have any suggestion for at least a quick DIS meet. What's people's thought on 6-7 o'clockish at one of the CS restaurants in DTD? I've never been to DL so don't know what's would be best, maybe the Bakery?
