Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Summer,

I also love the outfit. I am wearing the pink Mickey RunDisney shirt I just bought and black shorts....not inspiring like your cute outfit but I am OLD!! ;)
Hope to see you so I can give you a compliment in person.
Happy Running, Pam

hahaha, thanks Pam! Cuteness knows no age!!! The theming and the sparkles always give me that extra "pep in my step"...and who couldn't use that in a half marathon, right? ;) I'll take all the help I can get!!

Summer - Super cute outfit! I'm also "going Minnie" but I'm just wearing my MiniDot RunningSkirt (that I've had for years but have yet to be able to wear for an event because the January weekend has been so COLD the last few years!), a black running tank, and a "Minnie dot" headband. I wish I could figure out a way to rig up some Minnie ears on to clips but I'm just not that talented!

Did you buy iron-on rhinestone transfers, or do you actually own a Bedazzler? ;)

thanks! hahahaha...they are transfers!!! I thought about ears too, but figured they would drive me crazy at some point.

Shuttles unfortunately won't help. They pick up at the hotels and drop you off at the Main Entrance area on Harbor. The easiest thing to do is just to walk straight down DTD Sunday morning until you hit the DL Hotel and then you turn right into the staging area. It'll only take 5-10 minutes. You'll see a ton of people walking so if you're unsure, you can just follow the big plastic bags!:goodvibes

A couple of places in DTD will be open early Sunday morning if you want to pick something to eat/drink too. I think it's La Brea Bakery, Jamba Juice and the coffee shop at the end of DTD. They open either 3 or 3:30.

Thanks for the extra info on the food - I was wondering about that too!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my Minnie-inspired race day ensemble...if you recognize me, say hello! (And if you see me from behind, the back of the shirt says "I 'heart' Mickey" in rhinestones)

I am totally wishing I had some cute outfit planned! You are going to look great! Did you buy your red skirt or make it?

Thank you...I bought it online from Team Sparkle. I wore a pink one for the Princess this year and loved it...cute, fun, and practically weightless...you don't even know you're wearing it, and they have tons of cute colors. Recently they started posting ideas on their website for Disney-inspried running outfits that use their skirts of course...they've had some really cute ideas! I'll be wearing my pink one again for the Wine & Dine half...I'm going with a cupcake theme :) I think they might have a booth at the expo? I can't remember where, but for some reason I think I read that.

Summer~ you're outfit is so cute! I love it!!

Just checked weather.com and luckily for us, there's a mini heatwave (high 80's) through the weekend w/ high humidity. They said it'll break early in the week and hopefully w/ the heat wave coming this week we won't have anything next weekend. Next Thursday says high of 77. Fingers crossed we get the marine layer Sunday morning too!!

oh boy, I am SOOOO looking forward to those temps. I think they said we are on something like day 22 or 23 of consecutive 100+ temps. It is seriously starting to wear on me. I don't even remember the last time it rained. And just as a bonus, they add in that the hurricane that is currently out there is actaully going to cause us to HEAT up! :headache: I've been running this summer during the week at a park that has some of those fun water fountain things that shoot up from the ground that kids like to play in so I can run through them on each 1-mile loop and cool off...but with the drought they decided last week to shut off almost all of the city's water fountains...those included!

Maybe training in the heat will be a good thing, kind of like training in high altitude running at sea level. Your body will be so used to training in the heat, it'll eat up the cooler weather and you'll have a PR race!

Oh Summer! That really stinks! I know I actually did my 10 miler on the indoor track at the gym because it was so hot here on that day! I am really looking forward to those cooler temps as well, and summer is my favorite season!!

Our small town is working on redoing the riverfront property and one of the things on the drawing board is a "water feature" for kids to play in. Maybe this time next year I'll have something to run through to cool me off too!

That's what I'm hoping for!

That would be great, wouldn't it? This is the first time I've trained like this over the summer so I don't really know what to expect as far as what I'll be able to do on race day. Because of the heat, my training pace has really slowed...about 2 minutes per mile slower than what I was doing before so I don't know if my body has gotten used to that and will want to stick to that pace for the race too or what? Oh well...I knew going in that I would have to run slower during these months so I never set my sights on a PR for this race...just want to do my best and have a good time. I told my trainer I'd like to work on getting a little faster for the Tinkerbell run so I'll have much cooler temps to work with for that one! But if the cooler weather and the race day adrenaline push me enough, who knows?

Wouldn't that be nice! I'm hoping the lack of humidity in Cali will help me out considering my training has gone no where for this race. Maybe there's a saving grace for me after all in the form of the weather...

I am trying really hard not to worry about being so sloooow. I have these awful visions of me being all alone at the back of the pack! Yesterday I did 9 miles and with stretching partway through and walking occasionally, my overall average was 14 minutes per mile. I am hoping that some of the excitement of race day will help me get my butt in gear a little better.

Hakuna Matata. I'm averaging 13.5-14.5 on my longer runs in this heat and humidity in FL. For my 1st half marathon in jan at WDW, my pace was 15:09...my goal was to finish standing up, ahead of the sweepers, with a smile on my face, and the courage and desire to do it again...and here I come Disneyland! You can do it! I have my motto...I may be slow, but I finish the race. (Oh, and I managed to sneak a potty break in mid race and get some pictures...which I will do again).

I'm in the same boat as you with training, if not a little worse. My farthest run since moving to Florida was 5.5 mile(ish), and my farthest total is close to 7 miles. We'll see how this goes, but right now I'm just hoping to survive.

I am proof that you can still do a half marathon without the training you want. Just some of my story from 2010. DH and I had a goal of 12 races in 12 months, which we achieved. We had the WDW half marathon on the books for Jan 2011. My mom passed away at the age of 62 6/25/2011, and I became my dad's caregiver. He eventually moved in with us, after much pleading. We went through hospice, and he joined my mom in heaven on 11/9/2011, at the age of 67. Since I still have 3 grandparents living (lost my 1st one only 4 1/2 years ago), this was devistating. An overweight 38 year old, dealing with my parents, struggling to keep life moving for my family, I put my training on complete hold. I did do the 12 races, and managed 10 5k's and 2 10k's, however, in the 6 months leading to the half marathon in Jan, the longest run I had was 4 miles. I was getting 3 miles in at least 3 times a week, but nothing longer. My DH tried to convince me to pull out of the half, but I was determined to do it for myself and in honor on my parents. When my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 11/08, and my dad with lymphoma in 2/09, I knew I needed to lose weight...I had lost 50 pounds during everything, and have since managed to gain about 20 back when caring for Dad. Run/walk allowed me to burn off some stress, but never got the long runs in. At the WDW expo in Jan, I spoke to Jeff Galloway. He calmed my fears and anxiety down, as I was preparing to do this impossible thing in my life, with little to no training. He told me to go out on a 20/40 interval for the 1st 3-5 miles, then increase to 30/30. Well, I stayed at a 20/40 the entire race, as I just wanted to finish. 3:19:07 was my time, and now I am going for my C2C medal. I am hoping to beat that time, but understand, even though I have gotten more training in, I am going to do this for me, with them watching from above. I want to continue to prove to myself, it can be done when I put my mind to it. My strategy is to just keep moving forward.! You can do this, and beat the sweepers!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE your outfit! I have done quite a few races at WDW, since I live near WDW, and work there too. I have never dressed up for a race. Well, I am ready to dress up this time. I just ordered my running capri from runningskirts...the red and white polka dot...just need to grab a new running shirt to go with. I love the yellow sock idea...if only I could find a pair of my Asics socks in a yellow. Well done!

Ok, I had some catch up reading to do tonight. DH and I are flying to CA in 9 days. We will get to SNA around 4pm CA time...after 2 layovers and a plane change coming from Orlando. Since we don't leave to fly back home until Tues, we have a lot planned out for the days we are there. As cast members at WDW, we can never seem to get enough Disneyland time. It's been 5 years since we were at Disneyland, and we had our daughter with that time...which meant child swaps-we have never ridden the height restricted attractions together. I actually grew up in So Cal until 14, and we had annual passes, so Disneyland holds such a special place in my heart. DD started 2nd grade this week, and she is staying with my in-laws so we don't have to have her miss school (after all, we are taking her out for a cruise on the Disney Dream for Halloween, I can't justify this at the beginning of the school year). DD finally figured out our race is at Disneyland...she looked at me tonight and said, "Mommy, please don't ride the Ariel ride without me". Ours doesn't open for another year! It almost broke my heart. Hopefully we can get out to DL next Nov/Dec to enjoy the holiday season (we usually go on a Disney Cruise that time of year).

Thurs-Fly in, dinner at Gardenwalk "Fire & Ice" (great deal on restaurant.com found)
Fri-Expo, Disneyland Team Centers for some cast goodies and Disneyland/DCA
Sat-another Disneyland/DCA day
Sun-race day, dinner at Blue Bayou
Mon-Last day to spend with DH at DL/DCA
Tues-morning flight back to Orlando

Hope everyone is feeling good, and excited. Let's do this!

C2C medal, here I come!

Thank you...and those actually are asics socks!! I just happened to find them at a local sporting goods store! They came in a pack with a pink and green pair too. I normally wear Nike socks but these are pretty comfy.

I am not wearing a special outfit for the race, but I should have mentioned my post race shirt that I will wear to the parks. My daughter made a tee shirt for my sister, me and herself for post Princess this year. It is a hot pink tee shirt and has a Mickey head on the front (with a sparkly crown) that says, "We love Disney so much we ran through it". It was a huge hit at WDW, so my sister and I will wear those again. If you see us, say hello!
Happy Running!

So excited! We had already booked Blue Bayou for the night of the half marathon. I just booked World of Color with preferred viewing for lunch at Wine Country Trattoria on Fri 9/2. We are mapping out our weekend, and we know it will fly by! 5 play days for DH and I...it will feel strange without our DD, but great for the 2 of us.
