Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

I'm glad the race is nearly upon us. I have been waiting since I completed the Princess Half to complete my B2B challenge. I am also looking forward to spending time with my friends. After this race is behind me the F&W is next.

Hi all

Anyone have any suggestion for at least a quick DIS meet. What's people's thought on 6-7 o'clockish at one of the CS restaurants in DTD? I've never been to DL so don't know what's would be best, maybe the Bakery?

That sounds like a great idea! But maybe with the suggestion of doing it around 4:00 so that it doesn't interfere with people's dinner plans? I think a few people further back on the thread discussed having reservations for Saturday night.

If nothing else, there is always the old WISH standby of meeting at the 'W' in the family reunion area before and after the race. :)

I agree...we could probably stop by for a meet that was closer to 4 but wouldnt be able to make a 6 or 7 meet up because of dinner plans. I'll definitely be looking out around the W tent after the race though. My bf and I meet at S so we'll be close :)

So excited - just got off phone with my DS - he was granted the time off and will be joining me for the DL half trip!!!!! :cool1:

We had booked refundable plane tickets for him back in April, but he had an area change for his job, so we were not sure he would be able to get the time off to come with me as my ChEAR squad. DH has a university commitment - opening weekend for football season popcorn:: so it was going to be a solo trip for me if DS couldn't come.

When DS graduated from college in Dec, he moved 1,000 miles away, so I cherish any times I can see him in person and not via Skype.

Now I am looking forward to a great race and great mom/son bonding time in the Happiest Place on Earth!

I'm only 1 person, but I'm probably still going to be at the expo at that time. I'm arriving at LAX in the early afternoon, I was going to switch to an early flight but then prices jumped. Going a little closer to 4:30-5:00 would work better for me. If that doesn't work, I'll definitely try to meet up with everyone at "W" before or after the race. I just want to try and catch the 10:40 ART bus to the Crystal Cathedral for the 11:00 service.

I hope everyone is okay in the Northeast and Midatlantic Coasts! Not sure when everyone is flying out but hopefully things dry out between now and then. It will be quite a memorable Coast to Coast!

I don't have any plans for the Saturday night so I'm happy with any time we want to make it. :). Would 5:00 work for other people, then? At La Brea Bakery at DTD? Half the fun of these events is meeting other DISers so I'm happy to sit in the bakery all afternoon if needed.

So I made it through Irene with just a broken fence from a tree that broke. But....

I broke my toe. I fell down a whopping 3 steps, and there it went. What the heck am I going to do??????

If it were me, I would tape that toe and walk the race course anyway, or maybe even try to run. You have probably been training for a minimum of 4 months so you have alot invested in the race. My sister (who won her age group at the Princess half) will be walking the Disneyland half due to a stress fracture that is healing in her left foot. She does not want to miss out on her coast to coast medal and a first trip to DL.
Good Luck and Happy Running!
Pam

5:00pm on Saturday at the La Brea Bakery works for me. We are eating at Naples at 6:30pm.

I am feeling so unprepared for this run!

I haven't been running very much at all because it is so hot. I do 4.25 miles maybe 2 times a week. I am going to try to do 8 today but we'll see how that goes. And the more I think about the more down in the dumps I feel about the whole race.

I guess it's just pre-race jitters but this will be my 3rd 1/2 Marathon so I should be fine.

I did go to Disneyland yesterday so that kind of counts as training, right?

I feel very unprepared as well compared to the WDW half. Then again, I'm coming back from injury and I've done a lot to make sure it doesn't come back. I reached 30km/week in the first week of August but I dropped down to 21 km last week. I did 11km yesterday, which was my longest since coming back from injury. I'm going to walk/run hills tonight and shut it down until Saturday.

I think as long as I remember to have fun with the entire thing it shouldn't be a problem.

I would call your doctor and get their advice (if you can call a Sports Medicine Guy or just go to an Urgent Care that would probably be faster). I know of people who have run races with a broken toe so it is possible. I guess it all depends on if you are having a lot of pain or not. But, I know a Sports Medicine Doctor is going to do everything possible to get you out there in time for the race. Good Luck!!

I am totally excited to meet some WISHers at 5:00 at the Bakery. We should probably firm it up before people head out. We are leaving on Thursday! So excited.

Hope to meet some of you there!

I called today Run Disney to ask about the runner tracking ETA. I was told that it would be available at the Expo or 'up in a week or so'. When I pointed out that the race would be over in less than a week or so, I was told that they are still struggling with difficulties, so I guess something is preventing them from being able to organize and post the link for it. She told me to call back in a couple days. Too bad I'll be flying...

BTW, they're phone tree doesn't function correctly so calling them is almost as frustrating as reaching them. :rotfl2:

I'm just coming back from being lazy. :rotfl:

I know that even if I walked it I would finish so I'm justt going to look at it the same way as you...Just Have Fun!

Must admit I'm feeling unprepared for this one too. Haven't done as much strength training as I have for previous races, so I know my quads will be screaming at me by mile 8 instead of mile 11 like they usually do!

Just got to stay ahead of the sweepers!
