Official 2010 College Football Discussion Thread

We are a house divided, between the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks. We are currently watching SC vs FL. FSU scares me this year.

Watched the Auburn/Georgia game and I must say, it was nip and tuck for awhile there.

So - congrats to Auburn for winning the SEC West. I know the fans are excited. I thought Georgia's QB made some exceptional completions. And, of course Cam was all over the wall at the end!

Congratulations to the South Carolina fans out there!

Your team kicked the living snot out of the Gators.

I know a lot of folks don't like Steve Spurrier, but I am happy for him. He put the University of Florida on the football map, and now he is doing the same for South Carolina. That is a real coach! I don't know what has gotten into old Urban, but he has clearly lost something.

So, the Gators will sit out the big dance this year.

And, by big dance I mean the SECCG.

I'll tell you what is impressive.

Here are this week's BCS rankings:

1 Oregon
2 Auburn
3 TCU
4 Boise State
5 LSU
6 Stanford
7 Wisconsin
8 Nebraska
9 Ohio State
10 Oklahoma State
11 Alabama
12 Michigan State
13 Arkansas
14 Oklahoma
15 Missouri
16 Virginia Tech
17 South Carolina
18 Nevada
19 Texas A&M
20 Iowa
21 Mississippi State
22 Arizona
23 Utah
24 Miami (FL)
25 Florida State

There are six SEC teams in the top 25.

And five of those are from the SEC west.

No other conference or division comes anywhere close to that!

I agree! I've been quite happy to be in the top 25 all year - and now up to #13 - but it's funny that we aren't even CLOSE to being at the SECCG.

Tough conference!

Anolefan,

have you or TCD heard anything about Bama and FSU trying to line up a game in 2013? In the papers up here end of last week it said they were both looking at the Chik Filet Season Kickoff game (or whatever they call it). Only problem was the FSU non-conf schedule for 2013 presents some scheduling challenges. You guys have Gators, West Virginia, and Nevada (who I believe is ranked now) already on the 2013.

Bama has done this twice now (I went to the game to start the 2008 season when we played Clemson) and it's a great atmostphere at the Georgia Dome. Tickets are literally split 50-50 from behind one goal post around the the other goal post. Hope we can work it out. I think it would be a great game!

I have not heard anything more than you have. The only thing I read is that most likely a 2014 game would be more attractive due to the 2013 schedule you mentioned in your post.

I would love to see it happen.

How often have you seen a top 5 team (LSU) that won't even be playing in it's conference championship game? And by the time that game is played, they could potentially be ranked 3 or 4.

That's some tasty grass.

The weekend begins tonight with Alabama v. Georgia State on national TV!

Georgia State?

Who is Georgia State?

The Gators play Appalachian State on Saturday.

I am actually worried for the Gators in this game. Appalachian State will be up for this game, and Florida really doesn't have much to play for in the remainder of this season. I would hope that Urban can get the boys ready for this game, but I have seen some very poor coaching and game plans this year. Never say never.

GA State is a first year football team. You would be better watching your grass grow with the rains that came through yesterday with the "cold" front. It should be a yawner.

Yep, you called that one correctly.

But, I did watch some of the game anyway.

It wasn't quite as boring as trying to watch the grass grow.

I didn't know Georgia State's head coach was Bill Curry, who coached at Alabaman and Kentucky. Where the heck did they find him? Had he been retired for 15 years or something?

I hope the Gator game tomorrow is equally as lopsided, but I'm not so sure that it will be.

At least it's not on TV.

Yes, this was a favor game. I went to Alabama during a portion of the Curry years (my younger sister dated his son for a short while when they were both in high school). ThE game served its purpose - GA State cashed a check, the starters got some PT, nobody got hurt, and Bama was able to go way down the depth chart and play everybody down to the waterboys (except those they are trying to redshirt). I understand that it's not the most attractive game but I think there is a place for a home game to give the 3rd string, 4th string, and the Squad guys a chance to wear the Crimson jersey, get dirty, take a hit, and get into the official game stats. I don't mind one of these games a year.

As a matter of fact, Bama has another favor game scheduled for next season - the first game will be against Kent State who is Saban's alma mater and also who gave him his first grad assistant position. But Bama does go to Happy Valley/Penn State next year for a return visit. And Michigan State is also home-home in the future (Saban's old team). Plus we play LSU every year. Who's next - are they trying to schedule Toledo (Nick's first Head Coaching job)?

Games this weekend aren't exciting. But  I'm going camping this weekend and into next week! The beach is calling, the weather looks wonderful, the kids are out of school, and I LOVE the beach in the off-season. Then real quick it's Turkey Day, Iron Bowl, then sellling Christmas Trees for the Boys Scouts, yada yada....

But don't worry - things will work themselves out. The REC does their work , we cheer for the hometeam :cheer2:, and the Process continues on :cool2:.

Hope your team wins this weekend! :dance3:

Michigan sucks. Time to delete yet another game from DVR so DH can't see how bad it was. Hopefully UCF will do good today:)

Alabama fired Bill Curry back in the early 90's, if not in '90, as I recall.

He beat LSU regularly, had a winning record against Tennessee as well, and won an SEC championship while at Alabama.

The one thing he never, ever did, though, was beat Auburn.

In 1989, he went 10-1, and his only loss was to Auburn. It cost him his job.

The Iron Bowl is important, is what I'm saying.

He didn't retire. He opened up a Ford Dealership in Tampa on Dale Mabry Highway.

He also spent a good deal of time on ESPN being unintelligible during football games.

I think they have Lou Holthz holding down that position now.

I don't know what was worse yesterday- the way Nebraska played and was unable to stop the A&M running game, the anti-NU bias of the officials, or the way Pelini handled it. When they call 16 penalties against one team, and 2 against the other, there is no other way to spin it. When someone did throw a flag against A&M it was overruled and they picked it up. I'm surprised Pelini only got flagged once.

I still think they made a big mistake sending Martinez back in for the 2nd half. They aren't giving his ankle time to heal, and it shows with glaring clarity. A major part of the offense is hobbled and they are risking a major injury.

I'm not full of sour grapes. We lost that game because we couldn't generate the offense we needed, the offense that we had a few weeks ago. It would have been enough to even get past that pathetic excuse for officiating. Thbbbbb!

I would have to agree that the officiating in that game was very lopsided. There were many things that were just overlooked.:headache:

Another weekend of great weather and college football. People in Baton Rouge are smiling-at least for now. Thanksgiving weekend should be a great one for all.
Our only hope is for the defense now to show up against the Hogs. Good luck to everyone and fun tailgating!! Love college football and WDW!
