Ok here's the back story. I work in a cubicle farm but my cubicle is great. It's very large and has a full, large window with a good view. I get tons of natural light.

I've been offered my own office but the problem is that there are no windows in the office. The benefits are that it's quieter than my cubicle so I can and larger than my cube and there is more privacy.

I honestly don't know what to do. Would you take the office or stay in the cubicle

Unless you're an outdoors fanatic, take the office!

(Of course, I have a desk in a hallway, so a cube would be an upgrade for me!)

An office sounds nice, but I really like having a window. The light keeps me awake...I enjoy watching the rain, and a window keeps me from feeling caged in. So window cubicle for me.

Ive always had an office. Of course, 50% of my wall is windows. In AZ, that isnt necessary a good thing. They arent insulated.

That being said

Compared to the Dilbert's on my floor, Office > Dilbert. I stream Disney music from live365, and because of my poor hearing, and the open space of Dilberts, I wouldnt get to enjoy this benefit. Additionally, open work spaces arent allowed the freedoms of decor that I have. Since I am behind a door, my office isnt in ready view of anyone. Not that my decor is bad, its completely decked out in Disney stuff. My office's nickname is little Disneyland.

Overall, Im glad I am behind a door.

Although the downside is when I have beans for lunch......:scared1:

I hate offices, they close people in and just create a superiority environment. Open floor plan is the way to go, so skip the office and enjoy the natural light!

Office Minus Window = Walk-In Closet.

Thank them sincerely, but I'd keep the cubicle.

If you're happy in your cubicle, keep it. Not enough can be said for a window. I used to be in a cubicle with TONS of windows around it. Fabulous. I'm not in a cubicle with no window. Awful. I would take a window cubicle over a windowless office, unless of course you've got known cubicle issues.

Also, be careful about thinking a new office is better. Did you not see last week's Big Bang Theory when Sheldon had to have the newly vacated office. It didn't go well for him.;)

Office.

I HATE working in an open floor plan and I am less productive. I felt like I was in a fishbowl and am so glad for my last two offices. Everyone just kept stopping by to chat and my client conversations were overheard.

Having worked for a brief time (1.5 years) in an open-floor plan, I would actually consider quitting before going back to that.

DH would give his left arm for an office. He isn't in a cubicle farm, rather he is in no man's land...sitting at the reception desk with a sliding window where every yayhoo who walks through the front door stops and asks for so-and-so's office, or to drop off a package etc. Except DH is the IT guy and usually in the middle of some insanely engrossing programming, and NOT the receptionist. They just don't have an office for him.

if distractions are not a problem for you I'd say stay with the cubicle. I CANT work in a cubicle. The few times I have had to temporarly sit in a cubicle it was not pretty! personally, I would pick the office w/o windows over a cubicle as I could not get stuff done w/out a ceiling and door! I am very easily distracted though, so that's just me.

Take the office. I've had both, and I liked the office better.

I would have never taken this job that only offered a cubicle. Who do they think they are, I'd snap my fingers and say "Hekkkkkk no." I'm too valuable an employee to settle for their lowly cube. I'd threaten to leave until they did better.

An office with no window? If they expect me to take that they better have a big raise on the table. I wouldn't put up with that stuff. I'd be out of there in a heartbeat. I'll collect welfare before I work in a windowless office. I bet the BIG bosses all have windows.

Sorry, I couldn't help it, those aren't my real answers but I was really expecting to see some like that posted.

Me, I like an office, but I hate not being to see real daylight. I pretty much work from home, but in our corporate offices I have seen windowed cubes that I would choose over a windowless office.

Tough decision....Good Luck!!!!

Eight months ago, I would have said Office.

But we moved to an Open Floor plan and now I really love my cube. I had an office space in our old building and thought I'd really miss it when we moved. But - I now sit surrounded by my colleagues / peers and am so much more connected to them. Our projects move along more efficiently, we know each other better, I "overhear" things that lead to improved ideas or workflows or plans on both sides, etc.

I agree with everything said here. Im the same way. Definitely office. I dont work well around noise, im far less productive. Plus ppl stopping by all the time, ppl over hearing your phone calls, not good.
