I wanted to return something to Office Max today. They wouldn't give me the full price of the item back because I used a $10 off coupon. The coupon was $10 off a minimum $50 purchase.
My subtotal before tax was $81.52. After the coupon it was $71.52. The blue ink (I meant to get black) was $14.99 before tax. So $71.52 - 14.99 is $56.53. If I return the ink at $14.99 I would still be spending the minimum of $50.00. As I explained this to the supervisor, she kept saying, "but you only paid $13.50 for the ink".
Now I understand they took the $10 off a little bit from every line item, but, if you take off the ink, I still spent more than the minimum $50 that would validate the coupon in the first place. I believe I am entitled to the full price refund plus tax.
Am I wrong? If so, please explain to me, in elementary form, how so.
My husband said, why didn't you just exchange it for black. I don't know! That's what I should have done, but at the moment, all I could see was my side, lol.
