Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Ryan stated at the beginning of the show that they used Barry's DNA to create Clay. Then Barry said to the group during rehearsal that this is what Clay will look like in 30 years.

Cute comments.

The show tonight was O.K.

Diana...better than past performances...she still reminds me too much of Paula with those big pouty lips...quite annoying

George...STUNK up the stage tonight. ick ick ick

Jennifer....definitely one of her best performances.

Jasmine...MUCH better than the last two weeks. Good to see her spark again.

LaToya....I liked her tonight...but agree that there was something missing. Still however think she's the best out of the bunch.

John....okay...I've been sick of him the past two weeks...so he did a little better tonight...but I still want to see him go home tomorrow night.

Fantasia......it was a typical Fantasia performance. She needs to stick with performances like last weeks. Oh...and thanks to whoever mentioned the "Yeah yeah yeah's" now I notice them everytime and it's annoying me.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that thinks George is bad! I thought this whole time that I was the only one.

I would be thrilled if George, Diana or Fantasia went home tomorrow. Of course in reality, they'll most likely be the top 3. Considering how things went last year, things never seem to go the way I want them to.

Those are the only 3 I can't stand (mostly George and Diana). My mom hates Fantasia and already doesn't really care anymore since JPL is gone, but she definitely won't be watching next season if Fantasia wins. Here's hoping the last 4 standing are Jennifer, Jasmine, Latoya and John, in any order.

Please, please, please let's see John Stevens go. That was definately the most boring version of Mandy I've heard. I have to agree with Simon. I may have said this before, but I think Jennifer Hudson will be the dark horse in this competition and make the top 2. IMHO, I think LaToya and Jennifer may come in as the top two... it should be interesting to watch!

Let's hear some Copacabana in the group number tomorrow!!! :teeth:

It is really really time for John Stevens to go. I mean really really time.

When John Stevens started singing "Mandy", Ds said,"Oh No!Mom hates this song!" I do hate it but when did my DS age 8
hear it and remember I said I hated it!? Hilarious. John and
George were definitely the weakest links last night. I thought
Barry Manilow's coaching was really evident in that everyone was singing in real phrases-except Fantasia who went WAY over the
top in a bad way again. I didn't even like La Toya's song that
much; too much wailing. Jasmine was the best tonight, compared
to other performances. I was suprised.

Wow, I thought I was in OPPOSITE land last night!

Diana was good and George was BAD???

I was "trying to listen to my son" during their times on but was incredulous at how good Diana sounded and how horrible George sounded... :earseek:

Jennfer: Good

LaToya: Great voice, I agree that she NEEDS to show some personality, though. She is soooo bland.

John: Not too good though I really like him.

Jasmine: I just don't hear her, she just doesn't do it for me.

Fantasia: She is awesome. I hope she wins it all.

So Barry thinks Clay will stick around at least 30 yrs huh??? Hooray for Clay! Hopefully Clay will be as popular!

I think it is unfair for everyone to want George to go after one bad night..... he did sound like he had a cold or a frog in his throat.... but there are definitely others who have performed more consistently badly and should be going before George!!

I will give JS credit for improvement last night..... especially at the start of the song..... but then he lost is in about the middle and it was all downhill after that!! HE JUST DOESN'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!! IMHO his voice is weak and shaky and very often off key or flat!!

Fantasia and Jennifer both took songs that I know and like and made them almost unrecognizable!! WHY?? THey are great songs to start with so why mess around with them so much?
.......................P

Sorry folks, but it's time for John Stevens to go. That rendition of Mandy was very dreary. Poor kid. I can't picture him being the next American Idol. He's gotta go! (sorry)

Poor George, I felt bad for him last night. He sounded very rasp. Didn't do a good job like he use to do. I think the bottom 3 will be - John Stevens, George and Jasmine. I thought Jennifer did very good last night. She's starting to spark.

Latoya & Fantasia are good as usual. Diane was a surprise. She didn't do too bad.

I 100% agree. I am a big "Fanilow", and what the heck kind of renditions were those? I'm sorry, but if Barry really liked them, he needs to make sure his musical ear isn't going deaf. ;)

If John Stevens makes the cut again this week, William Hung deserves an apology.:hyper:

I'm not a Fanilow at all!! I think all the song choices stunk! But,Jennifer,Latoya and Fantasia were awesome. Even Jasmine sounded good last night! I still think Fantasia is more of a performer than any of the others. Latoya has a beautiful voice, but she's boring on stage, not fun to watch. You have to admit Fantasia is entertaining. She's my pick who SHOULD win this contest.

I said the same thing about jennifers song. I can't stand to watch her sing so I went to a different part of the room and I had no idea what she was singing! And that is one of my favorite Barry songs. I don't understand why everyone thinks Fantasia is so good...her voice sounds like nails on a chalk board to me! And bringing out the baby...shades of Nicky last year!

The only difference is, even though Clay has an AMAZING voice and personality, that's all he's got; it may help him if he wrote his own music!
Which reminds me of one eency little thing that really irked me last night, when Ryan said that Barry is a composer and musician...if you're a composer of music you already ARE a musician! I think he meant composer and performer maybe?

I think our friend Ryan was reading off a teleprompter. He's probably too young to even KNOW who Barry Manilow is. When Barry was writing the songs, Ryan wasn't yet a gleam in his future mama's eye.:p

Hi,
This is my first time posting on this thread but I've been reading your comments faithfully each week.

I never watched the first AI but became a big fan of the second. Wish I could have voted though but being that I'm in Canada we can't. (Clay was my favorite from the time I saw he auditioning!!)

Anyway, I agree with many comments for the preformances this week. I do believe John Stevens should be lowest tonight but then again, who can predict this anymore! I enjoyed Jennifer and LaToya's preformances the most this week. George didn't do well at all this week but did seem to be having problems. I noticed he rubbed his throat while standing with Ryan. Of course when Diana and Jasmine were ill, Paula made sure to mention it so that we all knew that could be a reason they didn't do their best. I also think that some of these young people may be "overusing" their voices while practicing, trying to make a good impression and wow us with their preformance. Have you ever noticed how when Clay is singing his songs on tv appearances he doesn't hit those same high notes as he does on the CD? I really noticed it when he was on Ryan Seacrest's show and did "The Way" right before he and Kelly Clarkson were heading out to do their tour. I think he doesn't want to overextend his vocals and not be able to sing to his potential the next day or next show. I wonder if the younger members or those who aren't used to singing more often are having a problem with this? Did this make any sense?

Looking forward to watching the outcome tonight and checking on here for everyone's comments again!!

George was the weakest performer last night even though I have grown to like him--it was not a good night for him. That said, I think the others are right, it's time for John to go--he's a great kid, I like him and think he has a nice voice. He's just not up to the level of the others yet. Bottom three guess: George, John, and Jasmine (who gave a "nice" performance, but I wasn't wowed).

Ditto everyone who posted about Fantasia's annoying voice and performing skills. She just doesn't do it for me, in fact, she puts me off completely. That exploitation of her "miracle" really set me off (as it did with Nikki the stripper in year 1).

LaToya has a wonderful set of pipes--she's just dull. Jennifer seems to have been holding back a bit and has been coming on strong.

All of that said--I really could care less who wins--no one is floating my boat.
