Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Don't really care who wins at this point. Haven't cared for quite awhile, truth be told!! As a whole, this group has not been so wonderful. [/B]
ITA

It was good to se Clay last night though!!

This is a contest that each contestant is trying to win. Why would Jasmine not be happy that she didn't get booted off? Why should she or Diana be upset that they get to compete another week? I thought that Jasmine reacted perfectly. She was surprised, then happy, and then felt sorry for La Toya. Then she was upset that there was booing. How more natural can someone get???

The entertainment industry is a cut-throat business. If every contestant wasn't going to try to win why would they even have lined up for oodles of hours to try out? Nobody should ever, ever feel guilty that they are more successful than somebody else because they worked their butts off and people voted for them. Jasmine and Diana did absolutely nothing wrong to get in their position. Save the tears for when they do get booted off.

People always make it seem that the poor contestants have manipulated the voting and have done some evil deed to be able to continue another week.

That's entertainment!!! I love it when it is so unpredictable!

Could they have made last night's show anymore drug out and boring!?!?!

its just a TV show!!! Just enjoy being entertained, forget about what's fair and what's not. No matter what happens these contestants will get opportunities that they wouldn't have, because of getting this far. You have to know Latoya will get signed to some label. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if good ol' Elton
has already called her. He DOES watch this show!

GO FANTASIA!!!!!!!

I totally agree that last nights show was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too long. They could have done the results, and let Donna sing Last Dance (wow she sounded good) and left it at that.

I was not suprised that it was LaToya at all. I figured Jasmine would get a ton of votes after they made her cry. I was trying to vote for Diana and had a terrible time getting through. I tried Jasmine just for fun, and never could get through. When I tried LaToya I got right through. LaToya had a wonderful voice, and I'm sure she'll get a deal right away, but I never cared for her myself. Can't really explain it, just didn't.

Now it will be interesting. If Jasmine pulled off what she did last night, it's entirely possible she could pull off a spot in the finals (even though she doesn't belong there).

All I can say is that LaToya behaved with class at the end, just like always.

No matter how bad Jasmine is next week, I'll bet the judges temper their comments. They don't want to take a chance of dissing their possible future idol. I can't imagine the producers appreciating that.

I wonder if they brought Clay on last night to remind the viewers that even if you don't win the AI title that those making it that far can indeed do great afterwards? Obviously they must have anticipated some people being upset with the outcome and Clay did tell the contestants that the top four from last season are all doing very well with their careers now.

I so agree. The highlight of the night was Clay. I was afraid Donna Summers was going to sing the entire McArthur Park song (isn't it like nearly 10 minutes long) just to fill in time.

I also didn't like the format that they were doing to get the girls into the bottom 2. As soon as Diana was save, I knew Fantansia was going to be in the bottom 2.

My son's girlfriend (who is 19) voted for Jasmaine many times because she felt bad for her. I felt worse for her than I did Latoya leaving. She had been put in an awkward situation. I blame it all on Simon, he didn't have to be that mean to her.

Onthe radio today they said that Latoya had 3 record offers before she even left the studio last night. She will do much better in the long run without the AI title. Look at Clay.

I will be on a cruise and then WDW so will be spared having to watch the final episodes.

I was one of those that had really hoped for a LaToya and Fantasia final. It just won't be the same for me now.

If it's between Diana and Fantasia, I might watch, but if Jasmine is in the finals, I definitely won't. I wish folks would quit voting "sympathy" votes because Simon "hurt her feelings" and vote for the best singers. Jasmine was off-key and flat period. With her voice, I just don't believe she belongs in the finals, or even the bottom three.

I'm glad Jasmine got booed. That just proved that the judges are on the right track. If I were Jasmine I would be ashamed that I was still there. I van't believe she was smiling. She should really quit because she can't believe for a minute that she was better the Latoya. This show is a joke.

:sad2:

One thing I really didn't like was that McArthur Park song. The lyrics are horrendous!

I can't believe that LaToya got voted off either. I like Jasmine and Diana though. Oh well.:sunny:

Come on people, get a grip of yourselves! This is a frigging TV show and a reality TV show at that where drama boosts ratings. It's not life and death. As Clay said, all four of those finalists will do well in the future, so there are no losers. My own daughter still keeps going on and on how Clay should have won last year and I try to keep reminding her that while he may not have one the title of American Idol, he may have come out a bigger winner hat Ruben.

For those of you who say you're not going to watch anymore, I say you're only kidding yourself. Watching AI is like watching a car wreck - you know you shouldn't look, but you want to know what's going on.

For those of you who say Jasmine should have been booed. SHAME ON YOU. Imagine that was your daughter/sister up there. Nobody deserves that kind of disrespect. While she may have been the weakest of the four, she was obviously good enough to make it that far.

For those of you that think it was fixed - get real. This whole argument about phone lines busy/not busy is misleading. Do you really think that people who call in from California are going to be dialling into the same phone hub as people in New York? The phone system is a little more complex that some guy sitting at the end of the line tallying votes. Just because you can't get through to vote for LaToya in Raliegh doesn't mean you'll have the same problem in Kalamazoo.

So far the only absurdity we haven't heard is the cries of racism again. But, wait, it'll come.

I have to agree with the others who are shocked at last night's outcome. I think it took a minute to pick my jaw back up. After thinking about it for a while I think this may be better for Latoya than being the winner since she'll get better record deals, more artistic freedom with her music and etc by not being the winner. Latoya was my favorite, along with George. I do have to say that I tried voting for Latoya Tuesday night about 20 tries within the 2 hours and didn't get through once. Honestly, it is a little disheartening to know that she got the least amount of votes even though many of us could not get a vote through. *shrugs*

Unpredictable show is right, I'll still watch but I'm not as excited about it as I used to be.

I can't believe anyone would be happy that someone got booed. I don't think Jasmine should have been safe last night at all, but it took a lot courage for a 17-year old girl to smile through all of that. I'm sure she knows she should be gone, but what is she supposed to do if others vote her through? She has no control over that.

I really hope people were booing because they were upset that LaToya was leaving and not because Jasmine was staying. Jasmine's reaction was totally normal and nothing to be ashamed of.

I really believe that is what the booing was about - not against Jasmine as much as in support of Latoya.

I didn't get to watch again last night because I was studying, but I can always rely on you fine folks on this thread for updates! ;)

Anyway, so apparently Jasmine was booed? Even though I didn't think she should have stayed, like my dad said - nobody deserves that kind of disrespect. I think it's terrible. If that was me being booed by thousands of people, I'd cry!! Can't we just congratulate her on making it this far and handling it well?

I agree, LaToya is definitely going to get a good record deal out of this. You rock, LaToya!!

I see nothing wrong with Jasmine smiling when she learned that she was not in the bottom 2. She has nothing to be ashamed of. She got the votes. That's what the show is based on. I agree that the worst singer should go. This time, it didn't. Maybe AI should start voting for the worst performance?

There will only be one American Idol, but there will be more than a few careers launched from the show. Don't get too upset over this.:D

I know this show appeals to more than the younger set, but young people are the target of this show. It'll be interesting to see if one of the younger ladies doesn't get a little push towards the front in the final weeks.

I posted this last week. Guess I was pretty much on the mark. :)

In my opinion, the bottom line is that the judges put in a wide variety of singers stemming from strong to mediocre (sp?). If they were truly looking for good singers then a lot of the top 32 wouldn't have been there at all. So now there is such a mixture of talent that the majority of younger viewers will vote less on talent and more on who they can relate to (style, age, etc.). This year's competition doesn't seem to have the kind of strong talent that everyone just about agreed on in the past two seasons.
